~Ophelia~
I woke up with severe pains on my head and my ankles.
My legs were cramped and overwhelmed with pain.
But wait, why was I feeling pains? Wasn't I supposed to be dead?
I remembered being pushed to a front of a moving trailer and was completely crushed, but I couldn't recall the person's face.
Or was that all a dream? Because how am I still alive.
I moved my leg. Looking up at my arms.
No injuries, just few pains that disappeared almost immediately.
I looked around me and it felt completely different.
This wasn't my room back at the orphanage, and in fact this was a hospital. A very cheap, local hospital.
There was a drip on my body. I looked at it confused.
The accident I had was more than this drip, and not sustaining any injury at all? Could this be a miracle?
Just then, someone pushed the door opened.
"Anna you're awake! You're finally awake!!" A girl who was just like my age bellowed. She was excited.
Where does she know me, and wait Anna? "How did I get here?" I asked her. She sat beside me and held my hand.
"You know we haven't eaten well for days, that affected you and you fainted Anna." What was she saying. I've been eating well, and I didn't faint.
I didn't know what was wrong with my memories now, but I remembered walking along a road with a girl who pushed me unaware.
"And why do you keep calling me Anna?" She looked at me weirdly.
"Did something else happened to you? Because that's your name." She voiced.
No this wasn't right, something was going on and I just didn't know what it was.
Then my eyes flickered on a little mirror placed across the room.
I rushed down from the bed immediately to the front of the mirror.
But there was a different person staring back at me. I had a completely different face, a face different from Ophelia.
Who was this?
Why was my face different! I screamed to the mirror and broke it into several pieces.
Then a girl with the same face appeared.
She looked at me and everything went stilled, the other girl around me fell asleep.
A spirit? I shook in fright.
"You have my body now, make use of it well, and do have a great life." A tear that turned to ashes dropped from her eyes and she was gone.
Reborn?
Everything was beginning to make sense to me now.
The new place, my name, my face, I was given another chance at life.
Someone killed me but I was still alive. But in another body. I was reborn.
The girl have woken up and she stared at me.
"How are you suddenly so strong? You could even stand up." I looked at her closely. She had to be Anna's close friend.
"Are you my friend?" Her eyes widened at me.
"Did you lost your memory?" She asked, concern laced at her voice.
"Of course not, I was only teasing you." I left the question to not make it look weird for her anymore.
"Where's my mother." She looked at me again, eyes filled with confusion and pity.
"Something did really happened." She held me up and we spoke to a nurse for discharge, a very careless nurse who was not even interested in noticing us.
She bent her head to thank her and bent my own head too. "Let's thank her. If not for her that agreed to treat you for free, you'd have been dead by now." Was that it? Anna was a very poor girl, and she did really died.
"Thank you miss." We chorused and left the cheap canter.
I had no idea what her name was. But just as I was about asking her, I had a fierce headache. My head spinned almost clutching my eyes.
Her name was Lily.
Anna's memory came to me.
But aside her name, nothing else came forth. "So Lily, tell me about my mother." I asked when I became stable now, I could see the horror look on her face.
But wait why wasn't Anna's family memories coming to me? They had to be a reason.
Did Anna hate her family?
"You never talked about your mother or anyone from your family Anna, what is wrong with you today."
Lily's phone began ringing. A very small phone, tightened together with some rubbers even.
"Anna I have to go, you know how my Aunt get some times, I could get locked up with the dogs again." She muttered vigorously and ran off.
"I'll check on you soon!" She yelled one more time and just like that, she was gone.
I was lost.
I didn't know where I lived or where my parents lived, Anna wouldn't give me her memories completely and now, Lily had ran off. Either way, I was still very happy to be alive.
I was beautiful in my past life, Anna's face wasn't bad as well.
And infact she looked more beautiful, just frail, cos of not eating properly. Who ever the parents were, I must find them and go to them, I belonged there now.
Remembering I grew up in an orphanage, the idea of family excited me.
No matter what they did to make her hate them, it was time to right it. I wasn't given another chance at life just to waste it.
I was going to find my way But I was still stuck for now, I didn't have my memories neither do I have Anna's.
But I was still walking, till I passed by an eatery. It felt familiar for some reasons, but I had no idea why. Just then, someone ran behind me.
"Young lady."
I turned back and looked to see a middle aged lady calling and signalling for me to wait. She had a towel that she was using to wipe her hand.
"You dropped application here and failed to show up? What happened? You wouldn't work here anymore?"
"Hun?" I raised my brows at her "Aren't you Anna Rodriguez?."
Oh I recalled I was Anna now and not Ophelia anymore and Anna must've dropped a resume here to work.
"Yes I am."
"You don't want to work here anymore?" I plastered on a smile.
"Of course I want to work here, just I've been sick." Her face turned sullen immediately, filled with concern.
"I hope you're better now? You do look a bit ill." She spoke politely and urged me in.
Then she brought some food for me.
"Eat this and ask for more, then you can start work tomorrow." she muttered.
My stomach growled, I was indeed dangerously hungry. As I was eating, several thoughts crossed my mind.
What if Anna's parents were dead? And worst of it all she didn't have a phone.
When I was full, I slept off there and found myself woke up on a bed the following morning.
Where was I again? Did I Reborn back to Ophelia this time? I rushed to the room mirror, but I was still Anna.
I felt relieved. I better remained as Anna, whatever made them killed me in my past life, Ophelia must've been mingling with dangerous people. And that, I'd figure it out someday.
"You slept off so I brought you in to have enough rest."
"I see you're agile today, you can begin work." She was a nice woman.
------------
Knowing it wasn't easy for me to recall anything either as Anna or Ophelia, I gave up.
I was going to live newly now forgetting the past. If Anna's parents were alive, one day I'd meet them.
Lily was gone, I believed she'd never find me again since I couldn't find where I lived or where my parents lived.
And I had no idea where she and Anna used to hang out or whatsoever. But I believed one day, we'd meet again.
For now, I must focus on achieving great life for Anna.
She seemed to have suffered so much, and even I didn't have that much of good life.
I had a dream, and I'll fulfill it in Anna's body. "The customers are waiting, why are you so lost?" Mrs Tasha brought me back from my rivers of thoughts.
"I'm sorry ma'am." I muttered and rushed around to take orders. I was not just lost in thought, I was also scared and frightened I might spend my night outside today, since I obviously didn't have a home anymore.
And even clothes to change was a problem now. It was beginning to weigh down on my chest.
Why was my life like this? I was killed previously and Reborn only to be miserable like this.
What situation was worse than this one now.
I served my last customer with my heart burdened and sad. And just like that, I had tears dropping my eyes It wasn't as easy anymore.
it was becoming more miserable and miserable every minutes.
Why was my life such a torture.
I cried bitterly, then I heard footsteps behind me.
"What's wrong Anna?" It was Mrs Tasha. "Would you like to share it with me?" She said delicately. But I was quiet.
"Wait, did you get pregnant?"
Whoa!
I looked up at her abruptly. That was far from it.
"Why did you asked that?"
"Because that's the only problem that could make a young girl like you cry so much like this."
What did she mean, that my problem wasn't enough?
This is a work of fiction, and any resemblance to real-life events or individuals is purely coincidental. I'd like to extend my gratitude to mm for their invaluable contributions to this story.
