The city skyline shimmered under the full moon, its silver glow casting long shadows over the penthouse terrace, Robert Fox stood at the edge, the crisp night air doing little to cool the fire burning in his veins. His muscles tensed as he gripped the glass of whiskey in his hand, the amber liquid barely touched. He was waiting. Down below, the streets pulsed with life, but his attention was fixed on one thing- her. Arlene McCoy. The woman who had unknowingly ensnared the beast inside him. She was a journalist, tenacious and unafraid. For weeks, she had been investigating Fox Enterprises, seeking the truth about its enigmatic CEO. What she didn't realize was that she was stepping into a world far darker than she could ever imagine. Because Robert wasn't just a billionaire. He was a werewolf- one of the most powerful in existence. And Arlene was his mate. He had resisted the pull for as long as he could. He had watched from the shadows, his wolf howling for her, aching to claim her. But tonight. There would be no more waiting. Tonight, she would be his.
Arlene McCoy adjusted the strap of he dress as she stepped into the grand ballroom of the Fox Tower. She had received the invitation earlier that day- an exclusive gala hosted by Robert Fox himself.
It had caught her off guard.
For weeks, she had been trying to secure an interview with the elusive billionaire. He never answered calls, never gave statements, and yet tonight, he had personally invited her.
Her instincts screamed that something wasn't right.
Wet here she was, drawn to him like a moth to a flame.
The room was filled with the city's elite- business magnates, politicians and celebrities all mingling beneath chandeliers dripping with crystals. But the moment she stepped inside, she felt it.
His gaze.
A slow shiver trailed down her spine as she turned.
And there he was.
Robert Fox stood at the far end of the room, tall and commanding in a black tailored suit. His dark hair was slightly tousled, as though he had run his fingers through it moments before. His sharp jawline, piercing amber eyes, and sculped framed made him the kind of man who left women breathless with a single glance.
Arlene swallowed hard as he began walking towards her, the crowd parting effortlessly moving out of his way.
When he reached her, he didn't speak right away.
Instead, he reached out, his fingers grazing the bare skin of her arm. The touch sent jolt of heat rushing through her veins, an unfamiliar ache pooling low in her belly.
"Arlene," he murmured, his voice dark velvet against her skin.
"How do you know my name?" she asked, breathless.
Robert's lips curved into a slow, knowing smile.
"I know everything about you."
Her pulse pounded in her ears. She should have been afraid.
Instead, she was aroused.
