Chapter 1

1.

I received a strange text message.

"Your fiancé is cheating on you with his secretary. The location is his office."

Initially, I thought it was a scam and ignored it.

But after a while, a photo was sent to me.

The woman in the picture wore a striking red dress, looking charming and lovely. The man was dressed in a suit, handsome and dashing. The woman nestled in his arms, playfully flirting with him, while he smiled indulgently.

Anyone seeing this scene would say they were a perfect match, but I couldn't because the man in the photo was my fiancé.

I stared at their happy expressions for a long time, tears falling uncontrollably.

Arnold and I have been in love for five years, during which he cared for me in every possible way. I thought he was my soul mate, but it seemed I was wrong about him.

Just this morning, we were discussing details about our wedding next week. I didn't want to believe he would cheat on me, yet I was too cowardly to confront him.

I was afraid that if he really was unfaithful, these five years of relationship with him would be in vain.

At that moment, my phone rang again, and another video came through.

In the video, the two were obscured by a blurred glass door, their faces unclear, but voices could be faintly heard.

"Arnold, are you really going to marry that woman next week?" the woman's coquettish voice sounded.

Then another voice responded, "I have no choice. Her family is wealthy, and only with her help can my company survive."

The woman asked, somewhat dissatisfied, when he would marry her.

The man quickly reassured her, saying that once he married me and acquired my assets, he would divorce me and marry her with a grand wedding. The woman hugged him, laughing happily.

Gradually, the conversation became more unbearable, and I felt cold all over. This man plotting to take his fiancée's assets was none other than my fiancé, Arnold Wade.

I knew his voice too well to be mistaken.

I used to find his voice gentle, especially when he called me "darling," but now it only disgusted me.

During school, he said his family was poor, so I paid for his college tuition.

After graduation, he wanted to start a business, so I helped him with my connections and supported his venture.

He said his parents had worked hard all their lives without enjoying good days, so I brought them over and took care of them personally.

He said his younger sister couldn't find a job, so I let her work at my company.

And now, he was holding another woman, talking about taking my money away.

I picked up the phone and called Arnold.

He answered immediately, still using that gentle voice to ask what I needed as if he hadn't betrayed me.

My voice trembled, but I forced a smile and asked what he was doing.

"I'm working. There's a big deal, and once it's done, I can buy you a new bag..."

His voice remained as gentle as ever, softly describing the life I yearned for.

Listening to him talk about our future made me feel sick.

Clearly, he was with his lover, yet he claimed to be working for our future.

If it were before, I would have been delighted, thinking I had chosen the right person.

The joy I felt before now turned into disgust.

It seemed that when he said he was working overtime, he was probably with his lover.

And I was such a fool to actually believe him. Arnold truly was a skilled actor.

"Ding dong," my phone rang again.

I looked down at the screen, and a message appeared, "Do you want them to pay for it?"

2.

"Who are you?" I quickly replied.

Although this person helped me see Arnold's true colors, I couldn't be sure of their intentions.

After a while, the person replied, "Don't be afraid. I won't harm you. If you want revenge, come to room 3288, Luxe Retreat Hotel."

After reading the message, I didn't respond immediately but instead had someone investigate who was using this number.

Without knowing who the person was, how could I be sure it wasn't Arnold's scheme?

I put down the phone and looked around.

This was the house my father bought for me, yet it was decorated according to Arnold's preferences.

He didn't contribute a penny, but I was fooled into putting both our names on the property deed.

Looking back, I was incredibly foolish.

But regretting now wouldn't change anything.

I needed to figure out how to reclaim what was mine.

I packed a few things and prepared to go back to my father's place.

Before leaving, I changed the door code and then left.

I took a taxi home, intending to tell my father about today's events, but hesitated when I saw him happily with my stepmother and half-brother.

I almost forgot that my father wasn't just my father anymore. He had a new family.

Since childhood, I thought my father was strict, but I didn't expect him to be so gentle with my brother.

"Geneva? You're back," my stepmother said, standing up somewhat awkwardly.

My father's and brother's laughter stopped abruptly as if I were an outsider disrupting their peace.

I forced a smile and said, "Yes, I'm here to pick up some things."

I went to the room on the third floor, grabbed a few items, and left with my luggage after hailing a taxi again.

Once in the car, I checked my phone and saw a reply from the private investigator. He said the messages were from Callum Andrews's private number.

Callum was a previous business partner, and our collaboration was pleasant.

But after that, we lost contact, and I couldn't figure out what he wanted.

I took a taxi to Luxe Retreat Hotel and called him.

"So, have you made your choice?" a cool voice came from the other end.

Puzzled, I asked him what he intended to do.

He chuckled and said, "Are you afraid I'll do something to you?"

Embarrassed by his teasing, I stopped asking questions and entered the hotel to see him.

I rang the doorbell, and Callum opened the door, dressed casually, probably just out of the shower.

After opening the door, he lazily leaned on the sofa, his damp hair hanging loosely, his long eyelashes slightly curled, and a smile on his lips as he slowly asked, "Miss Howard, how about letting me disrupt the wedding tomorrow?"

I was stunned for a moment, incredulous at his words.

Callum continued to smile faintly, "Don't you want revenge? Let me disrupt the wedding. Arnold loves his reputation, and he'll definitely be furious."

I looked at his mischievous demeanor, feeling a bit helpless. "Mr. Andrews, what exactly do you want?"

He remained unhurried, saying he wanted revenge on Arnold, just like me.

Callum asked me to proceed with the wedding next week as scheduled, leaving the rest to him.

I looked at Callum warily. If it weren't for him, I wouldn't have known about Arnold's infidelity. But why did he want me to continue with the wedding and offer to disrupt it?

After a moment of silence, Callum asked if I had made up my mind.

I lowered my eyes, not giving a definite answer.

I watched him smile playfully and curiously asked why he wanted revenge on Arnold.

"Because Arnold took my beloved away from me."

I looked up at Callum, seeing a faint sadness in his eyes, and was momentarily stunned.

Beloved? Who could it be?

According to my investigation, Arnold had only one lover, and it was Vivian.

Callum and I had only met a few times. Although I looked decent, I wouldn't be conceited enough to think he liked me after seeing me a few times.

It must be Vivian then. His taste wasn't great either.

I snapped back to reality, smiling as I reached out to shake his hand, saying, "It's a deal then."

3.

The next day, following Callum's instructions, I invited Vivian out under the excuse of buying pre-wedding items.

Initially, she was nervous, seemingly worried I had discovered something and subtly observed my expressions. But seeing me unchanged, she relaxed.

I pretended to be oblivious to Vivian's actions and excitedly dragged her into a lingerie store.

Her face turned pale when she saw me picking out intimate apparel.

Watching her change expressions and taking her for a clown amused me.

Vivian didn't seriously help me choose lingerie. Instead, she was frequently checking on her phone. I guessed she was messaging Arnold.

Several times, when I asked her opinion on the clothes, she would give perfunctory praise and then look down at her phone.
