Chapter 1 The interview

Emily's Pov

I looked at the mirror at the last time assuring myself that i looked perfect for the job. I took my bag and keys and dashed for the door quickly closing the door and boarded a taxi heading for my interview.

When I entered the office, I could not help but feel the competitive bite. The waiting room was full of women, all of us competing for the same position - the highly sought-after role of "The Secretary". I took a deep breath and attempted to brush off the competitive atmosphere. I had studied for this, and I was determined to ace it.

I brushed down my blue dress, ensuring I was neat and professional. My blue matching handbag was firmly clutched in my hand, containing all I required - resume, references, and a copy of my portfolio. I gave the receptionist a warm smile, aiming to create a positive impression.

"Hello, I'm Emily. I have an interview for the secretary vacancy," I said, attempting to be assertive.

The receptionist nodded, looking at her list. "Ah, yes. Emily. Right on schedule. Please have a seat and complete this application form. We'll be calling you in for an interview shortly."

I nodded, sitting down in one of the vacant chairs. As I started filling out the application form, I couldn't resist stealing glances at the other women in the waiting room. Some of them looked like they were ready to leap out of their skins, but some of them appeared totally calm and composed. I experienced a pang of anxiety, wondering whether I was actually cut out for this.

But as I completed the application form, I took a deep breath and remembered all the reasons I was ideal for this job. I possessed the experience, the qualifications, and the passion. I was going to nail this interview, no matter what.

My name was called by the receptionist, and I rose to my feet, smoothing my dress and slinging my bag over my shoulder. "Emily, follow me. The interviewer will see you now."

I took one last deep breath, plastered a cheerful smile on my face, and followed the receptionist to the interviewing room.

After some moments that seemed like forever i was out waiting like the other women that were in the reception.

"Miss Emily"? I heard my name

" yes"? I immediately stood up

" come to my office " he said and I took my bag and followed him on getting to his office he asked me to sit which I did

" You're qualified for the job I must say you're one of the best candidate"

" Thank you sir" I smiled

"There's just one thing left to do" he said

"What's that sir, I'll do it" I said almost immediately

" Good girl, it's pretty easy" he said and came close to me

"you just have to make me happy "

"make you happy"? I repeated confused

"Common you're not a baby, I'm sure you understand what i mean" he said and touched my cheek and i jerked

" What's the meaning of this sir" I said clearly upset

" look you're beautiful, intelligent and qualified and i know you want this job so I'm offering you a job just one night stand is all it takes in return "

"I must say you repel me sir, Do you think I am a whore? if you cannot keep your thing in your pants go find a whore "

"do you want to forfeit this job offer? it's up to you. Get out"

"You're a devil, you ought to be six feet under. My body is priceless and not for jerks and idiots like you" I retorted and walked away. The other women were watching me go but i heard them call in another person.

I stepped out of the building feeling proud and empowered. I had stood up for myself, refused to be degraded and objectified. I had shown him that I was not for sale, that my body was not a commodity to be traded.

But as I walked away, I could not help but feel a pang of sadness. I had desperately needed that job, had wanted it so badly. And now it was gone. All because of one man's twisted sense of entitlement. My bills were becoming due day by day, i really needed this job. The saddness within me became unbearable and the next thing i felt was pain.

" Hey! at least watch where you're going "

I looked up at the voice and behold an angel was standing in front of me.

" You're crying "? he said

I touched my cheeked and it was wet, i was so devastated that i didn't even realize i was crying.

"Are you here for the job interview? " he asked

" I was. I didn't get it " I said sadly, what surprised me is the fact that I'm standing so close to this stranger and telling him i got rejected.

" Come with me"

"what"?

"Are you deaf suddenly "? He said and was walking towards the building

'That was rude' I thought.
