ALAENA'S POV
I don't blame them, I'm just a girl, right? 23years no mate, zero powers manifested and I also look like I cannot hold my own.
Guess I have my mum to blame for this frail frame, sometimes I miss her you know. Can you miss someone you never really knew? She died when I was 5 years old and I only have flashes of what her face looked like.
My name is Alaena Blakhart and my dad Moraxes is the Alpha of the Westlands. It is a blessing and curse, on one hand, people treat me nicely because of my dad and on the other hand, they don't believe I have what it takes to run the affairs of the pack when it's time.
My dad never missed an opportunity to tell me stories about her, to be honest, he is my entire world.
He always believed in me and was always patient during my training classes even though it felt like there was a block.
I never seemed to get the moves right, it was cause for concern even more when I had not manifested my powers at 23 years.
Despite all these things my father never took the advice of his Betas and council members. They wanted him to father another offspring, hopefully, a male, and I wouldn't blame them for the ever-looming threat of our bitter enemies The Eastern wolves were present.
The two packs have been at war for centuries.
We needed a strong male to ensure our survival in the future.
I usually like to take long walks, but it has become a lot safer over the last two years. The raids and ambushes had stopped over this period. It was confusing at first, my dad in his typical fashion did not want to be the aggressor left to him. The war should've been over a long time ago and didn't see the need to keep fighting our ancestors' battles.
Weeks turned into months and now two years have gone by and not a single attack, relatively there was some peace and more me time.
I never really had friends growing up, just Sergei. He was a Beta's son in the Overwatch. He always went off to battle with my father and he was almost like the son he never had, if only her father knew what they had done on a few occasions.
I'm on a new trail today feeling a bit adventurous, training sucked again as usual but the history lessons were nice.
I love to read especially stories about Mahina the moon goddess, I wonder what she thinks about all the bloodshed and war over the years if only she existed.
I like to be practical and go by what I see and what's in front of me.
These stories are nothing more than folklore and fiction stories to keep stubborn pups in line. Maybe that's why I haven't manifested, who knows?
A rustling sound interrupts my train of thought, I come to myself and realize I had zoned out and strayed off the trail.
The noise came from the bushes again, this time a growl and footsteps. I quickly duck behind the nearest bush hoping I wasn't spotted.
Something didn't feel right.
Are those enemies?
What are they doing so far inland?
I tried to peek through the bushes, and the next thing I saw made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
My eyes widened with terror and a gasp almost escaped my mouth, I quickly held my mouth firmly with my hands as I ducked back into the bushes.
Croonies, those are Croonies if any of my knowledge in our history serves me right those are f*cking Croonies out there. How is that possible? Do they exist?
Oh Sh*t, I'm hearing footsteps coming towards me. I hope they didn't hear me, my scent is still masked because I haven't manifested my powers.
The footsteps began to fade away, I gathered the courage to take a peek one more time just to make sure I was not tripping.
It was them, they were two in number and another lifeless one.
They were dragging the body away, they looked even more hideous than the history books depicted them.
They were feral werewolves stuck in between their human form and wolf form with huge hind legs and a pool of drool running down their mouth.
Their claws looked like they would tear a normal wolf in half with a clean swipe, and what was more scary? They looked coordinated, the history books said it was just the Croonie King that was coordinated.
I ran as fast as I could back to the village, I had to warn my father something had to be done about this.
"What?!" My father exclaimed as I told him what I had just seen. I could see the fear and terror in his eyes, probably the thought of losing me scared him more than anything.
His council members didn't waste time trying to put off what I saw as nonsense.
My father didn't listen to them
"My moon, what do you suggest we do?" He asked me gazing into the distance, hand on chin.
I suggested we reach out to our neighbors the Eastern wolves, this was a time for diplomacy as we now had a common enemy.
After much revolt from his council and also Sergei my father agreed to follow my advice.
I was happy, this was my time to prove I was worth something, and helping forge an alliance never done before sounded like a nice start.
To our surprise the Eastern wolves agreed to meet, the location was the border pack land.
An entourage made up of some of our best men, my father, Sergei and I set up on the diplomatic expedition.
Everything happened so fast, I let out a scream but couldn't hear anything besides a ringing sound.
One minute we were standing across the Eastern wolves, the next my father's head was rolling on the ground.
