"I'm in love with two brothers and either of them could be the father of my child." The meek/gentle types always find a way of getting themselves into trouble. In this case, Ava, uncharacteristically, is swept up in a whirlwind romance with the two eldest brothers of California's elite Blackwood family. But this is not her major concern. Her son has both their features, thus making it hard to know for sure who she had an affair with.
When life gives you lemons, you turn them into lemonade. But when life gives you debts, what do you do with that?
Ava sat by her desk reviewing the bank statement of that month. Her event planning business was going down fast. The last job of the Peters had been a fatal failure as the entire guests of the wedding had contacted food poisoning from the seafood and Mr Peters had refused to pay for anything since he would be the one to foot all the medical bills.
Ava hadn't even bothered to argue with him because the guests were hundreds and he was a public figure; she could only imagine the amount he'd spend on their medics.
Plus they'd come to an agreement not to reveal the name of the event planning business otherwise, her company's reputation would have been completely ruined.
She leaned back in her chair and rested her head on the headrest ruminating on what could be done, while tapping the tip of her pen against her forehead.
The company was falling apart rapidly and if they didn't land a major event soon, they'd go under. Loans were there to be paid, salaries of the workers, her own bills...
The next major event was the one of the Kellys, if only they could have that one, there was a chance the company could be saved after all. There were a lot of other competent event planning companies that could get the job. She was hoping with all her heart that the job would be hers.
A knock sounded and her secretary poked her head in. "Ava? May I come in?"
She sat up and slipped her feet back into her heels. "Sure, Tracy. What's up?"
Tracy Wells had been a loyal staff member since Ava started the company three years ago. She met her at an event when she was still in the planning phase of the business and she and Tracy had basically run the company together before they started hiring more staff.
"Heyy," she entered and closed the door quietly behind her. "I have news. The Kelly job is gone."
Ava's heart race picked rapidly "What'd you mean?"
Tracie grimaced "I just heard from a source that the job was given to Rosie's."
Ava's heart sank to her stomach and she buried her face in her hands. Somehow, she'd been expecting that but she still had a glimmer of hope since that was their only chance for now.
Rosies was another popular and highly prestigious event planning organization. Of course the Kellys would choose them.
She stood up and grabbed her bag. Tracie looked at her alarmingly.
"Where are you going?"
She took a deep breath. "Just need to get some air and think about this."
"Take it easy," Tracie advised. "There'd be other opportunities."
"I really appreciate your optimism, Tracie, but this company is going under. You're well aware of our financial situation. I'm afraid we'd have to shut down if something is not done soon."
"Just calm down, Ava. Don't panic."
Ava scoffed. "Sure." She slipped on her jacket. "I need to catch a breather or I'd just run crazy. I'll be back."
"I understand, take your time."
She gave her a small smile as she passed and left the office. The small building they used as their office only comprised of two offices and a restroom, she used an office while Tracie shared one with the event coordinator and marketing manager.
She had just three staff in total, other staffs were hired temporarily whenever there was a job. She waved to Sam and Cindy on her way out. They were both college graduates who started working with her six months before.
She knew it was only a matter of time before they both quit.
She pulled her jacket closer to her body as she got on the street, the atmosphere was cold and crisp with a faint bite in the air that hinted at the lingering touch of winter.
A gentle breeze stirred making her hair fly across her face and she struggled to pull it into a bun.
She headed to the park, her usual thinking spot, settling on a swing.
She brainstormed on ideas that could save her business. She might fail continuously but one thing she was not was a quitter. She'd fight till the end, that was certain.
She swang back and forth on the swing and reminisced . She'd been so certain her business would prosper in the beginning, now it was just another failed dream.
She had bills to pay, salaries to pay and a young son to take of. She must have been on the swing for about an hour when her phone pinged in her bag.
Tracie's voice flashed on the screen and she picked it. "Hello."
"Ava? You need to come to the office right now," s
Tracie said with urgency in her voice.
Her heart rate picked up yet again wondering what could happened. "What's the matter? Did something happen?"
"You really need to come in here. It's good news. Landon Blackwood contacted, says he needs an event planner for a function"
Ava sprang up. "Did you just say Blackwood? The wealthy Blackwood?"
"You bet," Tracie replied. "Apparently,he came across one of the promotional videos Sam uploaded and says he likes our work."
"No way! Oh my God, I think I'm about to cry."
Tracie laughed. "Just get back here so we'd discuss."
Ava ended the call and felt like rolling in the grass. The joy in her was indescribable. The Blackwood family was a prestigious family who in a million years she wouldn't have thought she'd ever work with.
In her haste to get back to the office, she bumped into someone on the way and almost fell over.
"I'm so sorry," she apologized standing right on her feet.
"No, I'm sorry, are you alright?" A deep masculine voice called back.
She barely spared him a glance as she continued on her way. "I'm fine, so sorry."
The guy said something but she continued on her way regardless, waving it off. Her team were chattering excitedly when she got in.
" Tracie? Tell me everything!"
" I was so shocked." Tracie began.
"Remember that vlog of the Robinson's wedding I made and uploaded to our social media page?" Sam asked and Ava nodded. "Apparently that's the one he saw and he said he likes our work."
"Why us though? There's lots of event planning businesses." Cindy said excitedly. "I cannot wait to meet him, I get to meet one of the Blackwoods!"
"We should be grateful." Tracie said "I knew this day was gonna come, this is finally our breakthrough!"
"You guys, calm down." Ava put in. "Just explain in detail everything that happened."
"About twenty minutes after you left, the phone rang and when I picked, turns out it was Landon Blackwood. He said they need an event planner for a low-key ceremony."
"I couldn't believe my ears when you told me on the phone."
"I know right? It's a once in a lifetime opportunity." Cindy jumped excitedly.
"He asked when we would be able to schedule a meeting as quickly as possible and I asked if he was free this afternoon."
"This afternoon?"
"Yes! Get ready. We cannot loose this opportunity. Besides, he said the function is Friday so we need time to plan."
Ava's heart was bursting with joy and nervousness. "So he'd be here any minute?"
" Yes, now go settle in your office and prepare ahead." Tracie said as she took her by the shoulders and led her into her office.
Ava was settled in her chair minutes later when a knock came on the door.
Tracie opened it. "Ava? Mr Landon is here."
She stepped aside and Landon Blackwood stepped in.
Lo and behold, it was the man she bumped into at the park.
