Elena Carter never wanted to be anywhere near Damien Wolfe-the cold, calculating billionaire known for destroying anyone who crosses him. But when she's offered a once-in-a-lifetime chance to infiltrate his empire and expose his darkest secrets, she can't say no. What starts as a dangerous mission soon turns into something far more treacherous. Damien isn't just ruthless in business-he's ruthless in desire. He sees through Elena's lies, playing a game of seduction and power that leaves her questioning who the real villain is. As she digs deeper, she uncovers a web of deception, betrayals, and a secret that should have died years ago. But the deeper she falls, the more she realizes she's not just investigating Damien-she's becoming his obsession. And in his world, obsession is just another word for possession. When a ghost from his past resurfaces, threatening to tear them apart, Elena must decide: walk away before she loses herself completely, or risk everything for a man who might be more dangerous than the enemy they're fighting. In a world where love is a weapon and trust is a lie, one thing is certain-this game has no rules, and the winner takes all

Chapter 1 A Warning Too Late

The elevator ride down felt longer than the one up. My heart was still hammering from my encounter with Damien Wolfe, and my mind was spinning with his words.

Because I like knowing what people are hiding. And I always find out in the end.

He didn't just suspect me. He knew something was off.

As soon as I stepped out of the Wolfe Enterprises building, the night air hit me like a slap. The city buzzed around me-cars honking, distant chatter, neon lights flickering against the glass towers. But it all felt muted compared to the pounding in my chest.

I pulled out my phone, needing to ground myself. But the second I tapped the screen, a new message flashed across it.

Unknown Number: Get out while you still can.

A cold chill ran down my spine.

I glanced around, my pulse spiking. Was someone watching me? Following me? My instincts screamed at me to move, to disappear into the crowd.

Instead, I forced myself to take slow, steady breaths.

This could be a test.

Damien was known for playing mind games. For testing loyalty before someone even worked a full day in his company. What if this was his way of seeing how I'd react?

But then again... what if it wasn't?

Shoving the phone into my bag, I turned on my heel and walked swiftly toward the subway station, my heels clicking against the pavement. Every shadow felt sharper, every passing glance suspicious.

By the time I reached my small apartment, my nerves were shot. I locked the door behind me and exhaled heavily. My place was nothing special-just a tiny one-bedroom with peeling paint and secondhand furniture. But right now, it was the only place I felt safe.

I sank onto the couch, pulling my phone out again. The message was still there. No follow-ups. No threats. Just that single, ominous warning.

Who sent it?

I had been careful. No one was supposed to know why I was here. And yet, someone did.

I should have ignored it. I should have deleted the message and gone to bed.

But instead, I did something reckless.

I texted back.

Me: Who is this?

Seconds passed. Then minutes. Nothing.

I groaned, tossing the phone onto the table. Maybe it really was just a game. Maybe Damien wanted to rattle me before I even started.

But if that was the case... why did my instincts tell me this was something more?

I rubbed my temples, exhaustion settling in. Tomorrow was my official first day working under Damien Wolfe. If tonight was any indication, I was stepping into something far more dangerous than I'd ever imagined.

And the worst part?

I wasn't sure I wanted to walk away.

"Carroll Brown is dead! But you have to marry him in your sister's name." My mother said to me in a cold tone. My sister was engaged to the hottest billionaire. It should have been a perfect marriage. Unexpectedly, Carroll was dead in an accident. My sister didn't want to become a widow, so she forced me to marry her dead fiance. And I had no right to refuse her. Actually, I was the biological daughter of the Smith family. My sister was an adoptive one. My sister and I had been swapped at the hospital when we were just born. My parents had already had a deep relationship with her. So they chose to sacrifice me. On the wedding day, I was taken to the mourning hall. "Ma'am, please keep Master company and let him feel warm." The housekeeper said with a cold expression. I couldn't help but look up at the portrait above the coffin, and my heart skipped a beat at this glance. The man in the portrait was more handsome than the superstars in Hollywood. Carroll Brown? My dead husband? Wow, he was really handsome! I didn't know how long had passed when my stomach began to rebel. After one glance at the coffin, I swallowed my saliva and then begged with my fingers crossed. "Mr. Carroll, I'm starving! May I eat your pastries? You don't mind, do you?" "I do." "Ah!" Scared, I broke out in a cold sweat. My legs went limp, and I fell to the ground. I shouted, "Ghost!" Carroll curled his lips, leaned over, and touched the black coffin. "Mr. Carroll has risen from the dead. What do you think of this headline tomorrow?"
