Elara never expected her life to become a battlefield. Offered as a peace offering to the ruthless and mysterious alpha, Aleksandr Volkov, she finds herself trapped in a dangerous world of power and magic. But when their fiery attraction ignites, it threatens to consume them both. Just as Elara begins to unravel Aleksandr's dark secrets - and her own hidden powers - Kaelen returns. Her childhood friend and a powerful sorcerer, Kaelen is determined to protect her, even if it means standing against the alpha she's bound to. Torn between two powerful men and hunted by enemies who crave her magic, Elara must decide where her heart and loyalty lie. But with war looming and betrayal at every turn, the wrong choice could destroy everything - including the love that could set her free.

Chapter 1 fate's first strike

Elara sat at the edge of the grand balcony, the cool evening breeze brushing against her skin as she stared at the horizon. The golden sun dipped behind the trees, casting long shadows across the estate grounds. From here, everything looked peaceful - a sharp contrast to the storm of emotions twisting inside her.

Tomorrow, her life would change forever.

"Elara," a soft voice called from behind her.

She turned to see Nanny Lida, the only person who had ever shown her kindness in this cold, lavish house. Lida's face was lined with age, her warm brown eyes filled with worry.

"They're waiting for you," Lida said gently.

Elara's heart pounded as she rose. She smoothed her dress with trembling hands and followed Lida through the marble corridors. Tonight was the last night she'd spend in her home - if this could even be called that.

When they reached the main hall, the sight that met her stole her breath. The room was filled with powerful men - dangerous men - and at the center of them stood him.

Aleksandr Volkov.

He was taller than she'd imagined, broad-shouldered and commanding. His dark hair fell in perfect disarray, and his emerald green eyes were cold and calculating. Even across the room, Elara could feel his presence like a storm waiting to break.

Their eyes met.

The air grew heavier, her pulse quickened - and for a brief, terrifying moment, she forgot how to breathe.

"This is her?" Aleksandr's voice was deep and smooth, but there was an edge to it - a warning.

Her father nodded. "Yes. My daughter, Elara."

Aleksandr's gaze raked over her, assessing. "She'll do."

The words stung more than they should have. But before she could respond, the double doors burst open.

"Elara!"

Her heart leaped. The familiar voice made her throat tighten.

Kaelen.

He strode into the room, his eyes wild with desperation. He looked just as she remembered - golden-haired, with a boyish charm that masked his powerful magic. But there was fear in his expression, and it was aimed at Aleksandr.

"You can't do this," Kaelen said. "You can't take her."

Aleksandr's lips curled into a dangerous smile. "I suggest you step back, boy."

Kaelen's hands clenched at his sides, his magic stirring the air.

"Stop!" Elara's voice cracked. She stepped between them, her eyes pleading. "Kaelen, please."

"You don't understand, Elara," Kaelen said softly. "You're walking into a cage."

"And what choice do I have?" she whispered.

The silence that followed was heavy, filled with things they couldn't say.

"Enough." Aleksandr's patience snapped. "We leave tonight."

Elara's world tilted as strong hands closed around her arm, leading her away from everything she'd ever known - and into the fire waiting ahead.

"Carroll Brown is dead! But you have to marry him in your sister's name." My mother said to me in a cold tone. My sister was engaged to the hottest billionaire. It should have been a perfect marriage. Unexpectedly, Carroll was dead in an accident. My sister didn't want to become a widow, so she forced me to marry her dead fiance. And I had no right to refuse her. Actually, I was the biological daughter of the Smith family. My sister was an adoptive one. My sister and I had been swapped at the hospital when we were just born. My parents had already had a deep relationship with her. So they chose to sacrifice me. On the wedding day, I was taken to the mourning hall. "Ma'am, please keep Master company and let him feel warm." The housekeeper said with a cold expression. I couldn't help but look up at the portrait above the coffin, and my heart skipped a beat at this glance. The man in the portrait was more handsome than the superstars in Hollywood. Carroll Brown? My dead husband? Wow, he was really handsome! I didn't know how long had passed when my stomach began to rebel. After one glance at the coffin, I swallowed my saliva and then begged with my fingers crossed. "Mr. Carroll, I'm starving! May I eat your pastries? You don't mind, do you?" "I do." "Ah!" Scared, I broke out in a cold sweat. My legs went limp, and I fell to the ground. I shouted, "Ghost!" Carroll curled his lips, leaned over, and touched the black coffin. "Mr. Carroll has risen from the dead. What do you think of this headline tomorrow?"
