For centuries, the Moonbinders have ruled over werewolves, keeping their monstrous power leashed with magic and ancient laws. But when Elara, a young Moonbinder, is forced to bind the most dangerous Alpha alive-Kieran Wolfsbane-she makes a fatal mistake. She falls in love with him. And when Kieran breaks free, he does not just seek revenge. He seeks to end the Moonbinders forever. Now, as Kieran's rebellion sets the world on fire, Elara is forced to choose: Will she fight against him? Or will she stand beside the monster she created? But there is one truth no one dares to speak. If Kieran was never meant to be bound... then maybe the Moonbinders were never meant to rule.

Chapter 1 The Alpha's Chains

The full moon loomed heavy over the treetops, bathing the forest in a cold, silver glow. The scent of damp earth and pine filled the air, mingling with the metallic tang of blood. Elara Ravenshadow stood at the edge of the clearing, her pulse thrumming against her ribs like a caged bird. She could feel it-the raw, untamed power just beyond the stone walls.

The Alpha of the Banished was inside. And tonight, she would bind him.

A gust of wind rustled the trees, carrying the distant howls of wolves. They were watching, waiting. Not his pack-no, the Moonbinders had ensured Kieran Wolfsbane had no pack left. He was the last of his bloodline, a relic of a time when Alphas ruled unchecked. He had once been a legend, a monster whispered about in fear. But the Order of Moonbinders had captured him, and now he rotted in their strongest prison-a forgotten monastery, its walls reinforced with runes that pulsed like dying embers in the moonlight.

"Elara," a voice murmured behind her. She turned slightly, catching the sharp silhouette of Master Orlaith, the elder overseeing the ritual. The woman's pale eyes gleamed with an otherworldly light, her silver robes shifting like liquid moonlight. "You hesitate."

Elara forced her shoulders to straighten. "No, Master."

Orlaith studied her for a long moment before nodding toward the stone archway ahead. "Then go. The Alpha must be bound before dawn. If he breaks free..." She trailed off, but the unspoken words were clear.

If Kieran Wolfsbane escaped, no power in the world could stop him.

Elara clenched her fingers around the Binding Dagger strapped to her thigh. The blade was forged from lunar steel, a weapon designed for one purpose-to carve a binding sigil into a wolf's heart and tether them to the Moonbinders forever. It was a fate worse than death for their kind.

She stepped forward, her boots whispering against the cold stone as she entered the ruined monastery. The air inside was thick with dust and decay, but beneath it lurked something darker. Something alive.

Her magic pulsed, reacting to the presence ahead.

The chains rattled.

A deep growl rumbled from the shadows.

Elara's breath hitched as she approached the center of the chamber. There, bound to the crumbling remains of an altar, was Kieran Wolfsbane.

Even restrained, he radiated danger.

His arms were spread wide, shackled to the stone with chains infused with Lunabane, the only material capable of weakening a werewolf's strength. His shirt was torn, revealing a body carved from war and survival-broad shoulders, powerful arms, a chest littered with scars. But it was his eyes that stopped her in her tracks.

Silver, burning with fury.

"You're the executioner they sent?" His voice was low, rough as gravel, but laced with amusement. "A little thing like you?"

Elara ignored the flicker of unease in her stomach. She had faced Alphas before. Had bound them before. This was no different.

She lifted the dagger. "I am Elara of the Moonbinders. You, Kieran Wolfsbane, are hereby sentenced to servitude under the Order. Your will is forfeit. Your power belongs to us."

His lips curled into something that might have been a smirk if not for the gleam of his teeth. "You really believe that?"

She didn't flinch. "You are chained, Alpha. You have no choice."

His silver eyes locked onto hers, something unreadable flickering beneath their depths. Then, to her shock, he laughed.

A slow, dark chuckle that sent a shiver down her spine.

"Elara." He said her name like a secret. Like a promise.

Then the chains snapped.

A sound like shattering ice filled the air. The runes embedded in the metal flared, then burned out completely. The power of the Moonbinders-the same magic that had held him for months-failed.

Elara stumbled back, her breath coming sharp and fast. Impossible. The enchantments should have held. The Lunabane should have kept him weak. But Kieran moved-no, he prowled, rising from the altar with a lethal grace that defied everything she had been told.

She barely had time to react before he was on her.

A blur of motion, a flash of claws-she struck out with the dagger, aiming for his heart, but he caught her wrist with inhuman speed. Pain shot up her arm as he twisted, sending the weapon clattering to the stone.

She gasped, but he didn't kill her. Didn't crush her bones or tear out her throat.

Instead, he caged her.

One arm locked around her waist, pulling her against him. His breath was hot against her ear. "Tell me, little Moonbinder..." His voice was a low, velvety threat. "Did they lie to you? Or did they just not tell you that you would fail?"

Elara struggled, but his grip was iron. "The Order will come for me."

"I'm counting on it," he murmured.

And then-he let her go.

Elara stumbled back, shock flooding her veins.

He had her. He could have killed her. Instead, he had... what? Spared her?

But why?

Kieran rolled his shoulders, his chains lying in ruins at his feet. "Run, Elara. Tell your masters their pet Alpha is no longer theirs to leash."

She hesitated, every instinct screaming at her to retreat. To flee.

Then she did.

She turned and sprinted toward the exit, her heart pounding with something dangerously close to fear. But even as she ran, one truth lodged itself in her mind like a blade.

The Moonbinders had lied.

Kieran Wolfsbane was not bound; he had never been bound at all.

And now, he was free.
