CHAPTER ONE
ELENA'S POV
I was standing inside the cafe, close to the counter spreading my hands across the walls. I didn't know what was happening. One minute, I was trying to close up the cafe ,the next my bones felt like they were breaking. Stretching. Twisting.
I staggered back against the counter, my skin prickled and something inside me awoke.
The birthmark, the one that always confused me, burned like fire.
"Elena? You okay?" Zoan's voice echoed through the dim light of the cafe.
"No." I couldn't even speak properly. The words were strange, like I was choking on them. Zoan, something's wrong"
I didn't get to finish before the scream came out on its own.
It really hurts. The pain was so unbearable, but that wasn't really what was making me lose control. It was the fact that something was pulling me closer, and deeper. The force pulling me was so strong , it was calling me from the core of the earth. I watched as claws came out from my nails
I gripped the counter trying to be steady but it was of no use. The changes were just happening faster than I could process. My limbs were elongated and fur sprouted along my arms, there was also a shift in my bones.
"Elena" Zoan screamed.
I could hear her clearly but couldn't respond.. The weight of what was happening was much and it crashed on me. I was not normal.
In the blink of an eye, I was no longer standing in the cafe. My vision was very sharp, the sounds of the world were clearer. My senses were on fire. I finally shifted into a wolf. The transformation happened so fast and I couldn't explain how it happened.
I was not sure what to do . How can I be sure of anything when I didn't even know how to breathe in this form?.
I staggered forward, my body was moving with an agility I had never known. Everything was so fast and strong.
"Elena" Zoan's voice, now a distant call but I was not sure if I could answer. Because I felt I was trapped in someone else's skin.
As though it was not me anymore.
All of a sudden, the door opened and a very tall figure stepped in. A man.
No,not a man. An Alpha.
I froze.
His ice-blond hair glinted under the moonlight streaming through the windows and his piercing blue eyes locked on me.
"Elena Blackstone?" he asked, his voice
calm like a cool breeze cutting through the heat of the moment. The tone he used was not a question rather it was a command.
I growled immediately he called my name, but he didn't flinch. Instead he stepped closer, studying me with an intense, focused look.
"You're the one"
I backed up, but my new paws were not ready yet.
Who was this Alpha and what did he want?
"Calm down, dearie," the Alpha said, his very gentle voice as he crouched down to my level. "It's not as bad as it feels right now. You've just woken up. You're part of something bigger. Believe it or not, you're part of something bigger".
I was not sure of what to say. What is he talking about?
"Please who are you?" I managed to growl, though my voice was strained in my wolf form.
He smiled softly. I'm Kael Rivers. Alpha of the Meadows Pack. And you, Elena Blackstone, are the Luna".
"What? Luna?". I blinked.
"I'm sorry. I think I'm going to pass out," I said, more to myself than to him. It was hard to think, understand and focus.
Kael stood up, shaking his head as he muttered something under his breath. "The way am looking at this, it's going to be harder than I thought"
Before I could comprehend what was happening, a sharp crack reverberated through the night and the door was forcefully opened again.
Another figure walked in, his auburn hair wild, his eyes burning with a fierce, dangerous light.
"Is she the one?" he demanded.
Kael's eyes narrowed. "Yes, Blade. She's the one.".
"Good", Blade muttered, then took a step forward, looking at me up and down as though he's deciding whether or not to tear me apart.
"Then she's got a whole lot of work to do"
"A whole lot of work? What type of work is blade talking about " I whispered to myself.
I growled again, but something about Blade's presence unnerved me more than it should have.
Before I could even react or say anything, a third figure slipped into the room, his movements very smooth like a shadow. He has golden eyes that glinted like they knew secrets and was about to reveal them.
He looked at me with a sharp gaze before speaking. "The Nightshade Pack does not believe in this prophecy, but I'm here because I believe in results. ",His voice was very quiet and menacing.
"Four Packs," Kael said softly, almost to himself. "And now, you".
"Why are you talking about me like I'm some kind of weapon", I spat. My throat was very dry and everything was just happening fast.
"What the hell is going on?".
Before anyone could answer, the door opened again. This time, it wasn't just another stranger, it was a figure who seemed to burn with the very intensity of the sun.
"I thought I smelled fire," Hale said, his voice rich with amusement. "Is this the girl?
I felt their eyes on me, the weight of their gazes on me were much and I realized, no matter how much I wanted to run, I couldn't.
"Tell me," I demanded, struggling to steady myself. "What is this? Why do you all care? What is the meaning of all these happening here?.
The silence in the room was suffocating, but it was the last thing I said before everything went black.
And just before everything went dark, one question echoed in my mind.
"Who and What is the Shadow Fang?"
