Chapter 1 The beginning

Sophia POV

I stood in my room, pacing back and forth. It's been two days and I haven't set my eyes on my husband, Benjamin Davis. I can't tell why he changed after the death of our daughter, Emily.

I still couldn't take her off my mind; I knew he still blamed me for what happened to her; yes, I was actually responsible. If only I had left the house on time, she would have still been alive and not with her creator.

"Where could he be?" I asked as I glanced at the wall clock. It was almost Ten, and there was no sign of my husband. He had refused to pick up my calls, and his mother had refused to tell me where he went.

I thought about informing the police, but it would be a bad idea. Each time I heard the sound of a car driving into the estate, I would peer through the window, hoping it was Benjamin, but it was not him.

I got tired and had to retire to bed, I said my prayer before going under the duvet. I stared at the ceiling; the memories of how we lived before flashed before my eyes; it helped my troubled mind to relax; I didn't know when I fell asleep.

It was midnight, I noticed someone walked into the room and tried to remove the duvet from my body. I sighed in relief, knowing it was Benjamin; he looked drunken, his hair looked dishevelled, and his scent was engulfed in alcohol.

He called my name, "Sophia, how are you? where is Emily." I knew he was reacting to the effects of the alcohol; it's been a long since he asked me such a question and with the mention of Emily, I felt the tears welling up in my eyes.

"You have been drinking. Benjamin, you need to stop before it becomes a habit." Benjamin cut me off with a kiss. I felt my body shiver.

He moved his mouth, I tried to catch up with the pace as we exchanged saliva. It's been a long time since I felt like this. I wanted to stop him, but my body was weak; I guess it wanted him so badly.

Our love-making session was amazing, I couldn't tell how long it lasted, but I felt satisfied after a long time. It felt like yesterday when we got married. I lay beside him, breathing heavily; Then I noticed he was snoring lightly.

I stared at his face like it was my first time seeing him. It brought back old memories of us; I wiped the tears from my eyes as I got up to freshen up before returning to join him in the bed. He was still sleeping like a baby, so I covered him with the duvet. As I placed my hand around his hairy chest.

I woke up the following morning, only to realise I was alone. I let out a sigh of frustration; I was hoping to find him beside me when I got up, but no. I felt excited when I remembered what happened last night; it was one of the most amazing sex I have had in years. I yanked those thoughts from my mind and got up to freshen up.

Benjamin walked into the room when I came out of the shower. I was expecting him to kiss my cheeks or touch me, but he ignored me like nothing happened.

"My lawyer will contact you, I have informed him what to do. Don't try to act stubborn, sign the divorce papers." He said to me.

At first, I thought he was still influenced by the alcohol from last night. "What divorce, Benjamin. I am your wife, if there is anything you should discuss with me and not the lawyer."

"You are no longer my wife; I want a divorce, so when the lawyer comes, sign it and leave." His voice was deep and firm.

I felt my heart skip; those words pierced through my heart like a sharp blade. I couldn't move my mouth or my feet. The towel almost fell off my body, as I watched him leave the room.

"Divorce, Divorce. He wants to divorce me? What have I done? Why do I have to suffer like this?" I said to myself, as I was trembling.

I couldn't hold the tears from my eyes as they dropped down. I moved towards the bed and fell to it; I almost hit my head on the wood; that would have been better than what I am going through at the moment.

While I was still thinking of what he just said, a call came into my phone. I refused to pick it up, but then it came again; I thought it was Benjamin; maybe he was calling to tell me; it was a prank, but the number was unfamiliar. I furrowed my brow, as I answered the call.

"Hello, Mrs. Sophia. I am Your husband's lawyer, I called to inform you about the situation at hand, I will be coming over to the house later,"

I didn't allow him to finish his statement; I hung up the call on him; I already knew where the conversation was headed. "Benjamin, what have I done to you?" I said to myself, then I dialled his number, but he wasn't responding to my calls.

The thought of losing my daughter and husband in a year made me weak. "Why do I have to suffer like this? What have I done to deserve this." I asked looking at the door like I was expecting someone.

Then another call came into my phone; without hesitation, I glanced at the screen, thinking it was Benjamin, but it was Amelia, my best friend.

"Amelia, where are you?" I asked without knowing why she called.

"I am at home," she replied.

"I am on my way," I said and immediately terminated the call.

As I managed to get dressed, I walked out of the room like a walking dead, not minding what I was putting on. I need someone to talk to. Amelia is my friend, and she always listens to me.
