I sat near my mum's sick bed looking sad as the beeping of the machine was only heard in the ward. I saw how sickly she was and her illness was draining the life force in her.

"Mummy" I let out as I placed my small hand on her palm as she turned to me.

"Seraphina dear, why are you here?" she questioned as tears gathered in my eyes.

"I came here to see you mum, I was worried sick when Maya told me you vomited blood and was rushed to the hospital " and tears flowed down my cheeks as she smiled a little

"You know can't be here Seraphina, you'll get sick if you stay here" she said in a weak tone as she raised her hand to my soft cheek.

"Seraphina dear, you have to listen to what I have to say" she said as I nodded

"Seraphina you have to fight..... fight for your right...." She said as the machine was beeping faster and I looked at it feeling scared.

"Doctor, somebody" I shouted with my little voice having a bad feeling

"Whatever you do don't give up......fight if it's the last...... thing you do" she slowly turned to my direction and I took her hand.

"Mummy don't worry the doctor will be here" I said in a reassuring tone.

"Promise me you won't be weak, promise me you'll stand your ground and find out who killed me" she said and before I could react she collapsed and the door swung open as the doctor and nurses rushed in.

I watched as I saw my mother dying in front of my eyes

"Take the little girl out of here immediately" the doctor said as the nurse got hold me and slowly took me away as I struggled

"Let me go, I want to be with my mummy" I said trying to break free from the nurse's grip but it was pointless as I broke down completely.

A week later, we held a funeral as everyone felt pity for me and my dad

"Poor girl, she lost her mother at the age five" a woman whispered to another

"Bad luck is just upon the Voss family" the other joked as I stood there helpless as I saw my mother's coffin being buried and the pastor was preaching and talking about how my mother lived on earth.

My own world was shattered as I had refused to eat, sleep or rest.

*These people, why are they here, why are they here when they don't like my mom* she said to herself as she turned to the women who were gossiping

"If you don't have anything better to say leave, you're all here to make fun of my mum so leave!!!" I shouted and everyone looked at me and the women

"Did your mother not teach you some manners girl" one woman said

"She in fact did but you don't have any manners, you come here to gossip and pity me, I don't need your pity, GET OUT!!" I screamed as the woman saw that everyone was looking at them and they stormed off.

My dad walked to me and knelt down

"Seraphina please calm down, you haven't had anything to eat for the past three days please calm down " he said trying to calm me down and I hugged him.

"Dad don't leave me like mum did please " I said as my voice was broken as fresh tears poured down my cheeks

"I swear I won't leave you" her dad pat her head trying to soothe her

"I love you with all of my heart" he said as I left his embrace and took the flowers from Maya's hand and walked to my mom's grave and I dropped the flowers and I looked at my mother's name carved on the grave

"I love you mum and I swear to listen to your advice and find out who killed you" I said as I wiped my tears and I knelt down and bowed before her grave to pay my respect and I got up and turned to leave then I my entire surrounding starting becoming blurry as I collapsed on the floor.

Two weeks passed after the funeral. I sat on the couch eating some spaghetti bolognese then the doorbell rang as Maya rushed to open the door and my dad entered inside wearing a suit and alongside him a woman wearing a wedding gown and a three year old girl was behind the woman.

I stopped what I was eating and managed to get down from the couch and Maya stood at a corner.

"Dad, who is she?" I questioned staring at her with a suspicious look on my face and my dad walked to where I stood.

"Seraphina dear, I noticed you've been lonely and sad so I decided to remarry and let you have a new mother" he said with a smile

I froze in my spot

"Dad what did you say just now" I asked unclear of what I heard just now

"This is Veronica, your new mother" he introduced as I looked shocked.

"New mother?" I repeated

"Yes and beside her is your new sister Melinda " and Melinda walked in front of me looking very shy

I was completely speechless as Veronica walked to me

"You're a lovely girl, I hope you will accept me in your heart" she spoke warmly as she stretched her hand to touch me but I drifted backwards.

Anger was written all over my face as looked at my dad

"Did I ask for a new mum?" I said as I ran to my room locking it as Mr Voss looked at Maya

"Please go and check on her" he requested as Maya left the living room walking straight to my room door.

"It seems she doesn't like me at all, I'm not welcome here, I should have not gotten married to you" Veronica said as she turned to leave holding Melinda

"Let's go Melinda honey, we are not welcome here" she said as Mr Voss got hold of veronica's hand

"She's just emotional and stressed, she will definitely accept you for sure" Mr Voss assured her as he hugged her

"Besides how can I let my wife and daughter stay outside when I'm wealthy and living alone" Mr Voss said as he brought Veronica closer to him giving her a kiss on the lips

"Honey stop it, Melinda is still here" Veronica said as Melinda was looking at them in curiously

"Oh right" Mr Voss said as he moved to Melinda and he carried her into his arms.

"Daddy, is that little girl the new maid?" Melinda asked referring to seraphina

"No dear, she's your sister, your elder sister okay" Mr Voss explained.

Veronica looked at the mansion

*I'm finally where I'm supposed to be* she chanted to herself.
