"My name is Elena, I'm 28, and a nurse. After a rough day at St. Lay's Hospital, I found myself sitting in a little bar down on 5th Avenue. The dim lights flicker above me, casting long shadows across the worn wooden floor. The air is thick with the scent of whiskey and old leather. I'm trying to lighten the mood with a drink, but there's this eerie feeling in the air, like something's about to go down. The door creaks open, and I catch a glimpse of a shadowy figure standing outside, watching. His eyes, dark and intense, scan the room before locking onto mine. There's a dangerous edge to his presence, something that sends a shiver down my spine."

Chapter 1 SHADOWS IN THE NIGHT

I think to my self, "is this mysterious shadow of a man walking towards me?" As my heart sinks, the air gets thinner and thinner.

As he leans closer, his voice low and steady, he says, "I saw how you handled that emergency in the ER today. Not many could keep their cool like you did when that patient came in with the gunshot wound. Impressive." Elena's heart races. How does he know that? The weight of his gaze feels like a spotlight, exposing her vulnerabilities. She swallows hard, trying to mask her shock, but the chill that runs down her spine betrays her.

Suddenly the light flicker back on and i got a glimpse of his jet black hair, tan skin, he's wearing a suit and tie that scream money.

As I lean back i say "how would you know about that?" That gun shot victim was dropped off at the door noone else was in sight. Luckly I saved the man's life but he has a long road a head of him. He smirks slightly, "I have my ways of knowing things, Elena. In this city, information is the most valuable currency."

Adrians POV:

As I watch Elena walk back in shock. I couldnt help but feel for the girl that I've longed for all these years.

"Look, Elena," I said, trying to keep my voice steady. "I know you don't understand, but I've been watching over you for a long time. I even have a photo of your twin brother."

Her eyes widened in disbelief, and I could see the wheels turning in her mind. "What do you mean? Why do you have a photo of him?"

I took a deep breath, knowing this was the moment I had to reveal everything. "Because he's connected to all of this. And I promise, I'll explain everything, but you need to trust me."

Elena looks at me and raises her voice drawing the attention of others "trust you!? You want me to trust you!? I don't even know your danm name." The weight of her words hit me like a ton of bricks. How could I ask for her trust when I hadn't even shared something as simple as my name? I look at her in the eyes so she know she can trust me. "My name is Adrian, Adrian Luciano. I am 31 years old and I'm the head leader of the mafia."

Elena's eyes widened in shock. The room seemed to close in around her as the weight of Adrian's words sank in. She had heard whispers about the Luciano family but never imagined she would be face-to-face with the head of the mafia.

"Why are you telling me this?" she managed to ask, her voice barely above a whisper.

Adrian's intense gaze softened slightly. "Because you need to know who you're dealing with, Elena. And because there's something you need to understand-your brother, Marco, is my second in command."

Elena's heart skipped a beat. Marco had always been secretive about his work, but she never suspected he was involved with the mafia, let alone so deeply.

"Marco? But... why?" she stammered, her mind racing with questions.

Adrian leaned in closer, his voice low and serious. "Because he trusts you, and so do I. We need your help, Elena. There's more at stake here than you realize."

Elena sits down, still in shock. This mysterious shadow knows my name knows were I work and not to mention AS MY BROTHER INVOLVED IN THE FUCKING MAFIA!!!!! "Mr Shadow, Adrian, or whatever I-I still don't understand what this all has to do with me! My brother left home when I was 17 , he was 19. I am now 28!! You do the danm math and tell me how long it's been since I have last seen him! He'll I havnt even heard from him all these! For all he know i could have been dead!!!! Or he could have been dead!!!!

Adrian could see the turmoil in Elena's eyes as she poured out her feelings. Her voice trembled with a mix of fear, anger, and confusion.

"I get it, Elena. It's a lot to take in," Adrian began, his tone softer now, trying to reassure her. "But your brother, Marco, has his reasons for keeping his distance. And now, circumstances have brought us all together."

Elena's hands clenched into fists as she struggled to process everything. "But why now? Why involve me after all these years?" she demanded, her voice tinged with frustration.

Adrian paused, choosing his words carefully. "Because, Elena, there's a darkness looming over us, and your brother believes you can help us bring light to it. You may not have heard from him, but he's always been watching over you, in his own way. We both have."

Elena's eyes flashed with a mix of anger and hurt as she confronted Adrian. "He should have been there, Adrian! Our mother remarried, and her husband not only abuses her but then turned his anger on me. Where was Marco when she needed him the most? When i needed him the most!!!"

Adrian's expression darkened, a shadow of guilt crossing his face. "I understand your pain, Elena. Marco carries that burden heavily, but he believed keeping his distance was the only way to protect you and your mother from the dangers that lurked in our world."

Elena's voice quivered with emotion as she demanded, "How can he protect us from a distance? How can he stand by while we suffer?"

Adrian took a deep breath, trying to find the right words. "Elena, I know it sounds impossible, but Marco thought that by staying away, he could keep you safe from the darkness that surrounds us. He thought it would shield you from the pain that comes with knowing the truth."

Elena shook her head, frustration bubbling to the surface. "But that's not protection! It's abandonment! I needed him here, fighting alongside us, not hiding away while we're left to fend for ourselves!"

Adrian's gaze softened, realizing how deeply this affected her. "I get it. It feels like a betrayal, and it's not fair. But maybe, just maybe, Marco had a plan. He just couldn't share it without putting you both at risk."

Elena's eyes flashed with determination as she stood up, her voice quivering with emotion. "I want answers, Adrian! I deserve to know the truth!" With that, she stormed out, leaving Adrian to grapple with the weight of their conversation and the unresolved questions hanging in the air.
