I drank so much to secure orders that I ended up throwing up. Meanwhile, my boyfriend was in our new home, rolling in bed with his first love. He even undermined my rights for her. I turned around and started my own business. Now he's begging me to come back.

Chapter 1

After seeing off the last guest, I turned around and rushed to the bathroom to throw up.

Luna Smith, my assistant, quickly patted my back. Once I felt better, she helped me into the car.

"Phoebe, why do you push yourself so hard? It's not like there aren't any men who could help in the company." Luna said, looking at me with concern.

I gave a wry smile. "But they're not at a high enough level to handle this."

The client today was from a powerful publicly listed company. Securing their order would ensure our company's performance for the next three years.

I had heard they liked whisky, so I went to the winery and bought fifty cases. Unexpectedly, they brought a whole team. I had no choice but to drink with them.

After more than three hours of dining, the whole team was all unable to drink more and lost to me alone, and finally I secured a letter of intent for cooperation.

Looking at the document, I ignored the burning sensation in my stomach.

Luna was still indignant on my behalf.

"Does Mr. Powell know how hard you're working?"

Thinking of Golden Powell, I smiled gently. "This is the wedding gift for him. It's a secret for now."

"You and Mr. Powell are getting married next month. Why doesn't he care that you're not home yet?"

Hearing Luna's words, I remembered that new furniture was supposed to be delivered to the new house today. Golden said he would oversee it, but I had no idea how it went.

I called Golden, but there was no answer.

"Luna, head to Foster Ville."

I told Luna to take half a day off tomorrow before entering the neighborhood unit.

The password for the new house was my birthday, set by Golden.

Thinking about the wedding next month, I couldn't help but smile.

As I opened the door, strange noises came from inside.

I saw high heels at the entrance, and a man's suit tangled with a woman's dress on the floor.

From the bedroom came sounds of heavy breathing and moaning.

Dizzy, I steadied myself against the cabinet and slowly walked in.

The master bedroom door was ajar, and a couple was entangled on the still-packaged mattress. The man on top of the woman was none other than the other owner of the new house- my fiancé, Golden.

My stomach churned, and I threw up.

"Lucien, let's get a divorce," I said in a peremptory tone that was long overdue, the most decisive farewell to this absurd marriage. We had been married for exactly three years-three years that, for me, were filled with nothing but endless loneliness and torment. For three years, the husband who should have stood by my side through every storm, Lucien Sullivan, had completely disappeared from my life as if he had never existed. He vanished without a trace, leaving me alone to endure this empty, desolate marriage. Today, I finally received his message: "I'm back. Come pick me up at the airport." When I read his words, my heart leapt with joy, and I raced to the airport, thinking that he finally understood my love and was coming back to me. But his cruelty was far worse than I could have ever imagined-he was accompanied by a pregnant woman, and that woman was Carla, my closest and most trusted friend. In that moment, all of my previous excitement, all my hope, and all of our shared laughter and tears turned into the sharpest of daggers, stabbing into my heart and leaving me gasping for air. Now, all I want is to escape from this place that has left me so broken-to lick my wounds in solitude. Even if these wounds will remain with me for the rest of my life, I refuse to have anything to do with him ever again. He should know that it was his own hand that trampled our love underfoot, that his coldness and betrayal created this irreparable situation. But when he heard those words, he desperately clung to this broken, crumbling marriage, unwilling to let it end-almost as though doing so could rewind time and return everything to how it used to be. "Aurora, come back. I regret everything!" Regret? Those simple words stirred no emotion in me-only endless sadness and fury. My heart let out a frantic, desperate scream: It's too late for any of this!
