After entering the Misty Forest, the adventure team lost their way. Corrupted by the poisonous mist, the fiancé gave his gas mask to his childhood friend. I pleaded with tears in my eyes, "Without a gas mask, neither I nor the baby in my belly can survive." But my fiancé blamed me, "Jiang Yinxin, can't you be a little less selfish? Yaoyao has no survival skills; staying even one more minute is one more minute of danger." "I'll take her first, you catch up quickly!" He angrily shook off my hand, abandoned me, and left with the childhood friend. I inhaled the poisonous mist and fell into a coma; my fiancé did not come back to save me. In the end, both I and the baby in my belly perished.
Upon entering the Enigmatic Woodland, our adventure team quickly lost its way.
The air was filled with a toxic miasma, and my fiancé, Robert Williams, handed his gas mask to his childhood sweetheart, Jane Marsh.
With tears in my eyes, I pleaded with him, "Without a gas mask, neither I nor the baby inside me will survive."
But he accused me, "Kacie, can you stop being so selfish? Jane doesn't have survival skills; every extra minute she stays is an added risk."
"I'll take her out first, you follow quickly!"
He angrily shook off my hand and left with Jane, abandoning me.
I inhaled the poisonous air and fell into a coma, and my fiancé never returned to save me.
In the end, both I and my unborn child perished.

Jane was determined to explore the Enigmatic Woodland.
Once inside, our adventure team soon lost its way.
Worse still, the fog had a dangerously low oxygen level and contained deadly toxins.
The miasma could erode one's nerves, causing dizziness at best and unconsciousness at worst.
Fortunately, we all had gas masks, which could be life-saving in critical moments.
Jane cried out, her voice tinged with tears, "Robert, I think my gas mask broke when I fell just now..."
Robert snatched my gas mask and put it on Jane.
I looked at him in disbelief, "If she uses my gas mask, what will I use?"
Facing the dense poisonous fog, panic surged within me.
Robert gave me a cold glance, "Jane is frail. Inhaling too much of the miasma will quickly knock her out. I promised her I'd get her out safely."
I clutched his hand, my eyes red with emotion, "What about me? Without a gas mask, I'm in danger too. Besides, I'm carrying your child..."
Robert's expression darkened, "Kacie, is this really the time to be jealous and lie about being pregnant? Jane doesn't have survival skills. Every extra minute that she stays in is an added risk."
I begged him to return the gas mask to me, "Without it, neither I nor the baby will survive!"
But my pleas only earned his reproach.
"Kacie, can you stop being so selfish? I'll take her out first, you follow quickly!" He angrily shook off my hand.
Watching him turn and leave, my heart plummeted into an abyss of despair.
Jane's gaze was clearly taunting.
Her fall was just a fabricated lie. She had deliberately broken the mask.
Her eyes seemed to say, "Without a gas mask, you're as good as dead!"
The dizziness intensified, and my breathing became labored.
The miasma began to erode my nerves, as if my throat was on fire.
I struggled to get up, stumbling forward.
Branches tore at my skin, leaving bloody marks.
Poisoned and lost, I wandered aimlessly in the Enigmatic Woodland like a chicken with its head cut off.
The roars of wild beasts echoed around me.
Helplessness surged within me, and I desperately hoped Robert would come back to save me.
The toxins invaded my optic nerves, leaving my vision a blur of white fog.
Suddenly, I stepped into nothingness, and the intense feeling of weightlessness seemed to rip my soul from my body.
My soul hovered in mid-air, watching helplessly as my body plummeted down a hundred-meter cliff, my body was broken beyond recognition.
My body lay broken like a broken marionette, limbs scattered.
As the adventure team left, I begged my fiancé not to abandon me, but he still walked away.
Before we set out, I had just returned from the hospital. The pregnancy report stated I was seven weeks pregnant.
Two souls perished-was this outcome satisfactory to him?
2
Before the accident, I tried to save myself.
The phone signal was weak, but I managed to call my geography professor.
"Kacie, don't be afraid. I'll contact the rescue team immediately to get you out! The more dangerous it is, the more you must stay calm. Relax and try to breathe slowly; it will reduce the amount of toxic fog you inhale."
Alex Davis was a professor who was an authority in geography and had extensively studied this woodland.
Geological exploration teams had ventured into the Enigmatic Woodland many times, but many who ventured in never returned, or emerged changed forever, turning it into a forbidden territory over time.
The fog in the Enchanted Forest erodes nerves, causing hallucinations. Those trapped inside face a slim chance of survival.
I suppressed my panic, "Please hurry the rescue team. I can't hold on much longer."
After a while, Alex called again.
"Is Robert with you? The rescue team will take some time to reach you, and I'm worried you won't last."
"He left with Jane and the others. But they all have gas masks, so they should be safe."
Alex quickly tried to calm my nerves, "Try to contact Robert and see if he can come back for you."
As he spoke, the call was cut off.
I felt my breathing becoming more labored, as if it felt like a vice was squeezing my heart, making it nearly impossible to breathe.
Robert was likely already safely out of the Enigmatic Woodland.
He was the most skilled in the adventure team, the only one who could successfully lead me out.
I called him several times before he finally answered, slowly.
Before I could speak, his displeased voice came through the phone.
"We're already out. Why aren't you?"
I cried for help, "Robert, the toxic mist has invaded my heart and lungs. I can't make it out on my own."
"My stomach hurts so much, please save me!"
Waves of pain from my stomach nearly made me faint.
Robert replied impatiently, "Faking pregnancy is such a cliché!"
After a moment of silence, his tone softened, "Jane is hurt. I need to take her to the hospital. Stop dawdling and get out here!"
From the other end, I heard Jane's delicate voice, "Robert, my chest feels tight, and I twisted my ankle!"
Before I could say another word, he hung up abruptly.
The next moment, my phone ran out of battery, cutting me off from the outside world completely.
He made me realize that a childhood sweetheart was always more dependable than a fleeting romance.
We met at the most beautiful age, promising a lifetime together.
In the end, the man I loved changed his heart.
But fortunately, I was about to die.
The promises of the past no longer counted. The beauty of the past was all gone.
There would be no more stories of Kacie and Robert.
3
After my soul left my body, I drifted to Robert's side.
Jane, like a frightened deer, curled up in his arms. "Robert, I heard many people get lost in the Enigmatic Woodland and never make it out alive. Luckily, I have you. Otherwise, we'd be in danger."
Robert gently reassured her, "I promised to get you out safely, and you will be fine!"
Jane feigned concern, "Why hasn't Kacie come out yet? Could something have happened to her?"
The man sneered coldly, "She's got nine lives, nothing ever happens to her. Last time, when we went hang gliding in the Hoover Canyon and encountered a storm, the adventure team of seven got injured, but she was unharmed. Even the Grim Reaper wouldn't take her!"
Hearing his slander, a sharp pain pierced my heart.
Jane pretended to care, "She called you so many times. Maybe it was something urgent. Shouldn't you call her back to check?"
Robert hesitated for a second, then took out his phone to try and reach me.
But after several attempts, my phone was still off.
He snorted in dissatisfaction, "I gave her gas mask to you, and now she's sulking! She wants me to coax her, but I'm not good at sweet-talking."
Bitterness spread in my heart. It wasn't that he couldn't sweet-talk; he just didn't care to do it for me.
He spoke gently to Jane, but was impatient with me.
To him, I was just being petty, competing with his childhood sweetheart.
Jane looked innocent, "It's my clumsiness that broke the gas mask. You should go find Kacie, or she'll be mad at you! I'm only slightly injured, it's nothing. I can manage on my own."
Though she said she was fine, her hand clung tightly to Robert's sleeve, clearly still shaken.
Robert fell for it, pulling the frightened girl into his arms, "How can I leave you like this?"
Her small, pale face trembled as she spoke, "Robert, don't worry about me. If you don't find Kacie soon, she'll cause trouble again. I don't want you two fighting over me."
Robert was heartbroken, "Jane, you're too kind, always thinking of others first. Kacie isn't as kind as you; she's selfish and self-centered! She's always been spoiled. It's good for her to suffer a bit, so she won't make a fuss over you all the time." When he spoke of me, his tone was filled with disdain.
His words pierced my heart like needles, causing immense pain.
The last call for help he hung up on extinguished my hope for survival.
Was being unloved a reason not to live?
Just then, Alex called, his voice urgent.
"Robert, did you go back to find Kacie?"
Robert shook his head and said, "Jane is injured. I brought her to the hospital."
He hesitated for a second and then continued, "Kacie should have come out by now. She's probably home."
Alex's heart leapt into his throat, "The rescue team is at the foot of the mountain, and they haven't seen Kacie. She inhaled too much toxic gas. Without guidance, she can't make it out!"
Robert's indifferent face finally showed a hint of concern. He snorted, "For someone who always shows off, she's finally in over her head."
He turned to Jane, eyes full of affection. "Jane, Kacie is probably lost. I need to go find her. Rest well, I'll come see you later."
Jane feigned sincerity. "I hope Kacie is safe, or I'll feel guilty."
In the end, Robert spent a week searching the Enigmatic Woodland with the rescue team, but found nothing.
While waiting at home for news, the rescue team finally made progress.
Alex informed Robert, "Robert, the rescue team found a female body at the bottom of the cliff. We're not sure if it's Kacie."
"You should come over quickly!"
