On the day of my first anniversary with Duan Huaiming, I received a video from my sister. He harshly pecked at my sister's lips: "If it wasn't for her faking a pregnancy to trick me in the first place, I wouldn't have married her." Having been with him for ten years, I thought it was my fault for not warming his heart, but I never imagined I had misjudged him. Until I was pushed onto the coffee table by him, watching the blood seeping from under my skirt, I let out a scoff: "I forgot to tell you, Duan Huaiming, I really am pregnant." I decisively divorced him, but he went mad searching for me, begging me to come back home with him. A large snake wrapped around me from behind, and I smiled at Duan Huaiming: "Little black snake, stealing my food before was one thing, but now you're trying to steal my wife?"

Chapter 1

On the day of my first wedding anniversary with Leo Barnett, I received a video from my sister. He kissed her roughly, "If she hadn't faked a pregnancy to trick me back then, why would I have married her?"

After being with Leo for ten years, I had thought that I just hadn't managed to win his heart over. Little did I know that I had completely misjudged him.

It wasn't until he pushed me onto the coffee table and I saw the blood seeping out from under my dress that I let out a laugh and said, "I forgot to tell you, Leo, I'm actually pregnant."

I resolutely divorced him, yet he went crazy trying to find me and begged me to come back home with him.

Behind me, a huge snake wrapped its tail around me, and smiled at Leo, saying, "Little black snake, it was okay when you took my food before, but now you're even trying to take my wife?"

1.

I lit the candles carefully and placed them on the cake.

Today marked the first anniversary of my marriage to Leo.

But he hadn't been home for a month.

The pregnancy notice in my hand was wrinkled from my tight grip. I took a deep breath, flattened it out carefully, and placed it on the table.

I opened the chat with Leo, "Leo, can we meet?"

"No."

"I have a surprise for you."

I waited a long time, but there was no response from him.

I fell onto the bed, burying my head in the pillow, letting the sadness envelop me.

I had loved Leo for ten years, and in our separate lives, we had circled around each other for so long.

"Ding-dong-" I immediately sat up in bed, looking forward to it being a response from Leo.

It was a video from my sister.

The camera flickered. A black snake was coiled around my sister's waist, and an ambiguous atmosphere filled the air, spreading uncontrollably in wisps.

"Leo, if you're with me, what about my young sister?" My sister giggled, planting a kiss on his forehead.

Hearing this, Leo transformed into his human form and said in a flat tone, "If she hadn't tricked me by faking a pregnancy back then, there's no way I would have married her. After the wedding, it seems that I've lost all feelings for her."

There was no emotion visible in his eyes, and his face was unusually placid.

Suddenly, a gust of wind blew the pregnancy notice off the table, and it happened to land right in the trash can.

I dialed Leo's number but hung up almost instantly.

I wanted to question him, yet I was afraid of getting a positive response from him.

An hour later, I finally received a message from Leo.

"Are you crazy?"

The words stuck in my throat, and I didn't know how to tell him.

2.

Scrolling up the chat history, I realized that it seemed that I was always the one chattering away when communicating with Leo.

Whenever I bought a beautiful dress, I would share my happiness with him right away.

Whenever I tasted a delicious egg tart, I would invite him to try it with me next time.

But every time he responded, it always made me feel alienated. He just dismissed me with merely an emoji.

The candlelight flickered, and suddenly I remembered the day when I first met Leo.

I saw him curled up under a tree while climbing the mountain. Back then, Leo was just a little black snake. Beside him was a little white snake.

The two snakes were entwined, and I made a makeshift bandage for them.

The sight of the injured little snakes stirred my compassion.

Just as I was about to take them home to heal, the little white snake suddenly awoke. It glanced at me, then slithered away swiftly, disappearing from my sight.

Leo hissed at me, resisting anyone who tried to approach him.

It was said that snakes are cold-blooded and unfeeling. I used every bit of warmth I had to try to melt the ice in his heart little by little.

But when my sister showed up in front of him, for the first time, I saw a glimmer of light in his dull eyes.

It was something I had never seen before.

My sister found him frightening and would occasionally throw small stones at him while he slept.

I shielded him, only to be hit by a stone on the corner of my eyebrow, leaving a scar that remained to today.

Washing clothes, cooking meals, and cleaning his scales for Leo became an everyday occurrence for me.

Until one day, he finally took on his human form.

Looking at the extraordinarily handsome Leo in front of me, my face flushed for almost a whole day.

But the first thing he did was stand before my sister, grinning from ear to ear.

It seemed everything had a traceable path.

I scrolled up through my chat history with Leo.

A gust of wind rustled the curtains, nearly blowing them onto the cake on the table.

I quickly got up to save the last bit of beauty.

In my flurry, my hand accidentally touched the flame, and the sharp pain made me draw it back quickly.

I quickly took out the first aid kit to apply medicine to my hand, fearing that another scar would be left on it.

I had always thought that Leo preferred my flawless sister because of the scar on the corner of my eyebrow.

So when I saw the marks on my hand, I became so panicked and at a loss.
