I don't watch movies that much, but when I do,it's romance. I enjoy watching couples and their sweet love life and I used to envision myself being in love. 'it would be simple.' I thought, since I already have the perfect best friend who cares about me so much,he is perfect...well, except that he is a playboy. 'But we would work it out eventually' I thought. But my life took a different turn, nothing like the movies..... "Leave now!" "No,I won't." He hurled another bottle on the wall and the shattered sound made my heart skip, both in fear and concern. His hand was bleeding. "You are hurting yourself." My words were mere dust. The nearest glass cup was next,he grabbed it and sent it on the floor. This time, some piece got to my leg and gashed it. Tears slipped from my eye. Just a few months ago,I was just a poor unlucky girl looking for a job. Now,my life had gone beyond that, and it's not a good way ......

Chapter 1 Two worlds

1

"You are fired!"

"But......"She slammed the door in my face and I watched her go back to the counter without looking back.

Shit! I withdrew back.

Well at least she didn't break the glass door. I thought of going back to plead with her, but experience is the best teacher. When you have gone through the same process fifteen times and at fifteen different places, you'd learn to resign to your fate.

Walking over to where my ride was parked,I got on and pedaled towards home.

"Parky!" I heard a voice that I knew too well scream from a building.

I honestly hate New York city.

I held my break and looked up, as usual, she had a tiny apron strapped to her waist. "It's park shin! Park shin! How many times? Park! Shiiin!!"

She laughed.

Her family moved in last week to our street, and ever since she heard my brother yell my name one morning, she didn't fail to call me 'parky' everytime she sees me. I didn't even know her name yet.

"It's a nickname!" She screamed back. I wasn't seeing her clearly ,she was on the last floor of the building.

My mind moved from the name issue to deeper thoughts.

Why was she always free even though she was clearly at work?

How did she even get a job that easily? They just moved in.

How does she even see me everytime?

Maybe she wanted to be friends with me.

Before I could look up,she wasn't in sight anymore.

I shrugged and placed my legs on the pedal once again.

"Parky!!!" I heard again, she ran towards me.

And I thought I was the craziest one on earth...

"Where are you goi....." She stopped mid sentence, her face lit up as she looked across the road. My eyes followed her gaze.

Wow!

A very handsome guy was on display,he wore a white shirt and everything about him looked golden.

"He doesn't look real." My eyes didn't leave the billboard. My brain was too lazy to comprehend the big words that the advertisement held, but I focused on the guy. He looked angry but also composed, his expression was just difficult to read but I had never seen anyone as good looking. It was like he wasn't even trying at all but still looked stunning.

The weird girl laughed again. "That is my crush. Even though I'm dreaming and would never meet him."

"True, you are dreaming." I said and she bopped my shoulder. "What?" I found myself laughing. "Don't let your dreams be stupid like me.. we would never meet someone like that." I turned to point at the billboard but the advertisement was gone.

***WRITER***

Everywhere was dead silent,it was like everyone stifled even their breath.

"Who is in charge of PR?" His eyes didn't leave the file that he held,he spoke like every word cost a penny.

"I'm...I'm the one." A woman indicated. She was in her late thirties but could pass for a twenty year old.

Daniel's eyes were still on the file, leaving them hung in anticipation and curiosity. The manager and the woman were the most apprehensive. It would only take one negative sentence from him and their career would shake.

"The PR could use a bit more effort." He finally dropped the file and turned to the manager. "The accountant should be replaced tomorrow."

Everyone stifled their gasp as they turned to face the account whose face had gone pale instantly.

"Sir......" one look from Daniel shut him up.

Daniel stood up and walked out with a train of guards behind him.

The accountant's Shoulder sagged as he stood with others. The meeting was over and so was his job.

Nothing could be done again. Daniel Alcatel doesn't speak twice nor does he revoke his words.

***

After three more meetings in different companies,Daniel got home tired and angry.

Maids, guards and different workers bowed as he walked inside the large mansion, the stairs and then to his room. As soon as his room door was clicked shut,he eased off his tie and sent it flying.

The urge to break something was rising.

Why does he have to do this?

Why the heck does he have to be at those meetings talking to people physically?

Anger filled his throat,it was very hard to swallow. A small frame sitting on his table met with his eyes and he went numb instantly. Walking over,he lifted it and stared on. His cheat ached by mere looking and memories flooded.

If only.....

Sound of wailing siren interrupted his thoughts.

What! That could only mean one thing.

He dropped the frame gently and went to the window to look.

Shit! The anger found its way back slowly as he watched his mother get out of the car being opened by a driver.

What the hell was she doing in New York? She came back a month ago.

Tightening his teeth,he walked into his bathroom. About twenty minutes later,he got out of the shower;a towel wrapped around his waist, and just like he expected, his mother was seated on his cushion.

"Why are you here?" He just couldn't stand her.

"Apart from business classes,we also tried manners." Her face was stiff like his, impatience and strictness written all over.

Daniel just gave her a look and went for his lotion.

"I have so many things to attend to so I'd go straight to the point. You are getting married, and soon."

Daniel turned to her in shock.

She straightened her designer suit and continued. "The future of our organization is in your hands,so we have to be fast with everything. You will meet your fiance very soon." She stood up and went for the door. "Be nice to her,I didn't fly down here for nothing." She grabbed the knob and the door clamped shut behind her.

Daniel stood still for a while, trying to digest the information. He heard the siren wailing once again and then the gate being opened.

He paced back and forth, hoping to pacify the anger but each step intensified it.

A wife??

The nearest wine bottle was unlucky,he grabbed it and hurled at the wall in rage.

I watched my husband sign the papers that would end our marriage while he was busy texting the woman he actually loved. He didn't even glance at the header. He just scribbled the sharp, jagged signature that had signed death warrants for half of New York, tossed the file onto the passenger seat, and tapped his screen again. "Done," he said, his voice devoid of emotion. That was Dante Moretti. The Underboss. A man who could smell a lie from a mile away but couldn't see that his wife had just handed him an annulment decree disguised beneath a stack of mundane logistics reports. For three years, I scrubbed his blood out of his shirts. I saved his family's alliance when his ex, Sofia, ran off with a civilian. In return, he treated me like furniture. He left me in the rain to save Sofia from a broken nail. He left me alone on my birthday to drink champagne on a yacht with her. He even handed me a glass of whiskey—her favorite drink—forgetting that I despised the taste. I was merely a placeholder. A ghost in my own home. So, I stopped waiting. I burned our wedding portrait in the fireplace, left my platinum ring in the ashes, and boarded a one-way flight to San Francisco. I thought I was finally free. I thought I had escaped the cage. But I underestimated Dante. When he finally opened that file weeks later and realized he had signed away his wife without looking, the Reaper didn't accept defeat. He burned down the world to find me, obsessed with reclaiming the woman he had already thrown away.

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband’s Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn’t find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn’t even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father’s legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn’s party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara’s health and managing every detail of Caden’s empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I’d drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause—if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I’d forgotten.

I was at my own engagement party at the Sterling estate when the world started tilting. Victoria Sterling, my future mother-in-law, smiled coldly as she watched me struggle with a cup of tea that had been drugged to ruin me. Before I could find my fiancé, Ryan, a waiter dragged me into the forbidden West Wing and locked me in a room with Julian Sterling, the family’s "fallen titan" who had been confined to a wheelchair for years. The door burst open to a frenzy of camera flashes and theatrical screams. Victoria framed me as a seductress caught in the act, and Ryan didn't even try to listen to my pleas, calling me "cheap leftovers" before walking away with his pregnant mistress. When I turned to my own family for help, my father signed a document severing our relationship for a five-million-dollar payout from Julian. They traded me like a commodity without a second thought. I didn't understand why my own parents were so eager to sell me, or how Ryan could look at me with such disgust after promising me forever. I was a sacrifice, a pawn used to protect the family's offshore accounts, and I couldn't fathom how every person I loved had a price tag for my destruction. With nowhere left to go, I married Julian in a bleak ceremony at City Hall. He slid a heavy diamond onto my finger and whispered, "We have a war to start." That night, inside his secret penthouse, I watched the paralyzed man stand up from his wheelchair and activate a screen filled with the Sterling family's darkest secrets. The execution had officially begun.
