In the middle of the night, he sent me a message: "What else are you being picky about? How old are you now? In two more years, you'll only be able to find divorced men with kids..."

Chapter 1

My name was Linda, and I had just graduated from school when I joined a decent company.

I expected to have a rough start at work, but instead, I was immediately surrounded by colleagues eager to introduce me a boyfriends.

They enthusiastically asked if I had a boyfriend, and upon hearing my negative response, my WhatsApp was flooded with over a dozen male contacts.

I shook my head, feeling like I had stumbled into a Dating agency instead of a workplace.

The colleague next to me said, "You have great qualities and you're beautiful with fair skin. Your family background is good, and you're a master's graduate from a top university. So naturally, everyone wants to become relatives with you."

I nodded, somewhat confused.

Looking at the variety of men in my WhatsApp, I closed my phone.

I knew I should focus on my career.

I always believed that when the time was right, love would come naturally.

However, a week later at lunch, while eating with colleagues in the cafeteria, the finance manager, Eva Anderson, sat next to me.

She cheerfully showed me her phone, "Linda, I have a nice young man from my family. How about you two meet up?"

Seeing Eva enthusiasm, I couldn't refuse.

After lunch, I couldn't help but vent to my colleague next to me.

She smiled lightly, "Eva means well. Why not give it a try?"

I thought about it and realized she had a point. If I met someone suitable, I would have to thank her for the introduction.

That afternoon, I received a friend request from the guy she mentioned.

I hesitated for two seconds before accepting.

Little did I know, adding him on WhatsApp would leave such a bad and lasting impression on me about blind dates.

After connecting, he quickly greeted me: "Hello, I'm Josh James."

Out of courtesy, I replied, "Hello, I'm Linda Howard."

After work, we chatted for a bit, and he invited me to dinner the next evening.

I found Josh to be quite nice, with a humorous and engaging conversation style, and he seemed like a decent guy.

Eva mentioned he was a graduate from a prestigious university, working in a government office, with an above-average appearance and height of 1.8 meters.

His family background was modest, with parents who were farmers.

But my parents always told me that choosing a partner wasn't just about conditions. As long as the person was good and responsible, it was enough.

So, I took this date seriously.

Moreover, he thoughtfully picked an upscale restaurant for our dinner, which was near my company.

I felt he valued this meeting and respected me.

So, even before meeting, I had a good impression of him.

But when we met that evening, it wasn't what I expected.

As soon as we met, he couldn't stop boasting about himself, how well he did in school, how smoothly he got into his job, and how impressive he was. He didn't miss a chance to belittle women, specifically me.

He enthusiastically said, "What's the use of you women having such high education? In the end, your parents still want you to find a man with a good job to marry and live a stable life. I'm the only one in my class who got into this government office."

I was left speechless in dismay by his unwarranted arrogance about his job.

Later, he started probing about my family's situation: "By the way, since your family is from the city, you must have a few properties, right?"

"You're a creepy bastard." His eyes smolder me and his answering grin is nothing short of beautiful. Deadly. "Yet you hunger for me. Tell me, this appetite of yours, does it always tend toward 'creepy bastards'?" **** Widower and ex-boss to the Mafia, Zefiro Della Rocca, has an unhealthy fixation on the woman nextdoor. It began as a coincidence, growing into mere curiosity, and soon, it was an itch he couldn't ignore, like a quick fix of crack for an addict. He didn't know her name, but he knew every inch of her skin, how it flushed when she climaxed, her favourite novel and that every night she contemplated suicide. He didn't want to care, despising his rapt fascination of the woman. She was in love with her abusive husband. She was married, bound by a contract to the Bratva's hitman. She was off-limits. But when Zefiro wanted something, it was with an intensity that bordered on madness. He obsessed, possessed, owned. There'd be bloodshed if he touched her, but the sight of blood always did fascinate him. * When Susanna flees from her husband, she stumbles right into the arms of her devilishly handsome neighbour with a brooding glare. He couldn't stand her, but she needed him, if she was ever going to escape her husband who now wanted her dead. Better the devil you know than the angel you don't. She should have recalled that before hopping into Zefiro's car and letting him whisk her away to Italy. Maybe then, she wouldn't have started an affair with him. He was the only man who touched her right, and the crazy man took no small pains in ensuring he would be the last.
