Chapter 1 The gathering storm

The kingdom of Everia lay shrouded in an uneasy silence, its people bracing for the impending storm. For weeks, rumors had spread like wildfire: the dark sorcerer, Malakai, had forged an alliance with the neighboring kingdom of Valtoria, seeking to conquer and enslave Everia's people. In the grand hall of Everia's castle, King Arin sat brooding, his piercing blue eyes scanning the gathering of nobles and advisors. His queen, Lirien, stood by his side, her slender fingers grasping his. "My lord," began Lord Commander Erien, "our scouts report Valtoria's armies amassing at the eastern border.

Malakai's dark magic has twisted their minds; they will show no quarter." King Arin's jaw clenched. "We will not yield. Prepare our armies for battle. We will defend our kingdom to the last breath." As the nobles dispersed to ready their troops, a hooded figure slipped unnoticed into the shadows, their eyes burning with an inner fire. Meanwhile, in the distant lands of Valtoria, Malakai stood atop a twisted, blackened spire, his dark magic swirling around him. His voice echoed through the night, summoning an ancient evil. As the kingdom of Everia prepared for war, King Arin's thoughts drifted to the one person he couldn't protect: Elara, the beautiful and fiery daughter of Lord Commander Erien. Their secret love had been forbidden since the day they met, yet they couldn't resist each other. In the castle's hidden gardens, Elara awaited Arin, her raven hair cascading down her back like the night. As he approached, her emerald eyes sparkled with defiance. "My love, you must leave," Arin whispered, his lips brushing against her ear. "The castle won't be safe." "I won't leave without you," Elara replied, her voice trembling. "I'd rather die by your side than live without you." Arin's heart swelled, but duty bound him. "I am the king. I must stay." Just then, a rustling in the bushes announced the arrival of Prince Kael, Arin's trusted friend and advisor. His piercing gaze lingered on Elara before shifting to Arin. "Your Majesty, Lord Commander Erien requests your presence. Valtoria's armies approach." As Arin departed, Elara's gaze locked onto Prince Kael's. "Protect him," she whispered, her eyes pleading. Kael's expression softened, his voice barely audible. "I'll shield him with my life, Elara. But who will shield your heart?" Elara's cheeks flushed, and she vanished into the shadows, leaving Kael to ponder the forbidden embers burning between them. Meanwhile, across the border, Princess Lylah of Valtoria struggled against the dark magic controlling her actions. Malakai's grasp tightened around her mind, but a glimmer of rebellion remained. As she gazed into the mirror, a reflection of Prince Kael appeared beside her – a vision conjured by her own hidden desires. "Kael," she whispered, her voice a whispered promise.

My world revolved around Jax Harding, my older brother's captivating rockstar friend. From sixteen, I adored him; at eighteen, I clung to his casual promise: "When you're 22, maybe I'll settle down." That offhand comment became my life's beacon, guiding every choice, meticulously planning my twenty-second birthday as our destiny. But on that pivotal day in a Lower East Side bar, clutching my gift, my dream exploded. I overheard Jax' s cold voice: "Can't believe Savvy's showing up. She' s still hung up on that stupid thing I said." Then the crushing plot: "We' re gonna tell Savvy I' m engaged to Chloe, maybe even hint she' s pregnant. That should scare her off." My gift, my future, slipped from my numb fingers. I fled into the cold New York rain, devastated by betrayal. Later, Jax introduced Chloe as his "fiancée" while his bandmates mocked my "adorable crush"-he did nothing. As an art installation fell, he saved Chloe, abandoning me to severe injury. In the hospital, he came for "damage control," then shockingly shoved me into a fountain, leaving me to bleed, calling me a "jealous psycho." How could the man I loved, who once saved me, become this cruel and publicly humiliate me? Why was my devotion seen as an annoyance to be brutally extinguished with lies and assault? Was I just a problem, my loyalty met with hatred? I would not be his victim. Injured and betrayed, I made an unshakeable vow: I was done. I blocked his number and everyone connected to him, severing ties. This was not an escape; this was my rebirth. Florence awaited, a new life on my terms, unburdened by broken promises.
