Chapter 1 Ian's return

KELLY CAMBRIDGE PULLED up at the parking lot of the pack house. She was not ready to leave the car, not that she had fallen in love with her latest edition Lexus. No, the truth was far from that. Gazing at Ian Garfield from the side window of her car brought back memories that had long been buried in her mind. Her eyes traveled from his upper body down to his legs. He was tall. Lean. Gorgeous. She never thought she would ever look at him that way in her life, especially not a man that she had always referred to as brother.

She wondered if he would actually remember her, ten years away from home had done a lot of changes in him. She almost wouldn't recognize him if it wasn't for the fact that her mother had told her he would return today. The whole pack anticipated his return, his father, the Alpha would probably throw a welcome party in his honor. Kelly sank further in her seat, fiddling her fingers as she did so. It didn't take long before the guards rushed out and began helping him pack his luggage. For the record, he brought many bags with him. Bags that if filled with clothes would be enough for Kelly to wear throughout a year without repeating any. She took several deep breaths, trying to deny the bond that had just formed between them. Ian was her mate and she just hoped he had not noticed because she wasn't ready to face it. How would she survive being queen of the werewolves? With all those functions that one had to attend. She wasn't one for parties and being queen Luna meant she would have to attend every one she was invited to. She calmed herself with another hasty breath, hoping the bond would just snap. By now, the guards had helped with the luggage and the only living thing that remained in the compound was Ian. His gaze traveled around the large estate as if taking in the magnificence. Kelly was not surprised as she always awed at the building even thought he had been living there for nineteen years. All her life in other words. Just when she thought Ian would follow the guards into the building, his gaze shifted to her. Kelly sank further, her heart pounding in her chest. The knock that came on her window was expected. Feigning calmness, she opened the door to come face to face with Ian. He looked nothing like ten years ago, deep blue eyes, sun tanned skin and broad shoulders. If she thought he was gorgeous earlier, she was wrong. He was god-like. Ian aimed his killer smile at her as he watched her expression unfold. She looked calm but he was sure she wasn't. He could feel it through the bond they shared. "I always knew it was you." He drawled out. His smile never leaving his face. Kelly thought she didn't hear him right. He always knew she was going to be his mate? "Let's go inside." Kelly eyed his outstretched palm. Enticing as it was, she didn't wish to take it. "I just want to have this moment to myself. I would see you later." She was sure she saw a look of hurt pass across his face but it was gone immediately as if she had imagined it. "Of course. I would see you later." With that Ian left the parking lot and sauntered into the ack house. Kelly let out a deep sigh afterwards, she handled him fine. She lingered in her car for a few moments before stepping out. The cool summer breeze flapping out her air as she did so. She made her way into the house making sure to avoid Ian at all cost. She still couldn't believe it, not that she didn't like Ian, only she had always seen him as an older brother, nothing more. What would she make out of this situation that she found herself, she feared what the outcome might be. Most of all, she feared her twin's reaction. Elyse. Elyse was the one who loved Ian, Elyse could have been his mate not her. The bond was undeniable, she felt it as soon as she pulled up in the lot. They were mates and she had to accept it, but how?, not when it could make her and Elyse rivals, not when she didn't want the position that came with being his mate, and definitely not when she didn't like the functions that came with this position. With a click, the door to her room flew open revealing the cosy setting of the space. Pink colored walls, a cosy bedside drawer with a mirror in front of it. Kelly took one step inside but strong arms wrapped around her stopping her from going any further. Seething with anger, she turned around to face the intruder. Once again, she got lost in Ian's deep blue eyes, a smirk played along his face. His voice was laced with honey as he spoke. "You didn't think I would let you go so easily, did you?" Kelly blamed herself for leaving her car early even though she had waited exactly ten minutes after Ian left before she stepped out and she was sure no one was looking when she entered the house. How on earth had Ian been watching her and she didn't know it. With a slight frown, she tugged his arm off her waist but her efforts only made him tighten his grip. "I've always wanted to do this." He said and without warning, his lips found hers in a gentle, yet possessive kiss. She had never been kissed before but the feeling she got from this one made her go weak in the knee. She got lost in the kiss, grabbing him by the hair as the kiss deepened. Good goddess, was this what the mate bond was supposed to do with them. With a smile, Ian pulled away whilst Kelly panted hard as she caught her breath. "You all grown up now, aren't you?" Kelly didn't give a reply, she only wished the kiss had not ended. She blushed fervently as she tried to push those lewd thoughts out of her mind. "I would see you at dinner." With that Ian walked away leaving Kelly in the doorway. She desperately wished that he would just return and take her right here but when he turned the corner that led to his room, she knew he was not coming. She stepped inside her room and slammed the door shut behind her. ~**~. Dinner that night was lavish, a huge dinner in honor of Ian's return. The room was filled with laughter from all angles. "So Ian, have you met any special someone?" Kelly stiffened as she heard this question. She knew someone would ask about this, of course the whole pack was anxious to know who the future Luna would be but Kelly didn't expect that her mother would be the one to ask. Ian's reply came curtly, "I would like to know why you asked but for the record, she is right beside you." Ian winked at her as soon as he said those words. All eyes at the dinner table turned to her in that instant. Kelly was overwhelmed by their glances especially her mother's. "Sweetie, why didn't you tell me?" The question not ignorable so Kelly replied. At least that was the best reply she could come up with. "It's nought much to talk about." Her mum immediately chided her stopping her from uttering anymore 'nonsense'. "What do you mean sweetheart, this is huge." Eleanor exclaimed. Amidst all the happy face stood a gloomy one. The reason Kelly was yet to make this public and Ian had just about ruined her plan. Elyse's face was a torrent of emotions. Happy, sad, disappointed, excited all at the same time. Kelly restrained herself from laughing at the look it made on her face. Elyse gently removed herself from dinner with an excuse that she felt nauseous. No one thought much about it that night except Kelly. ~**~ Elyse packed the last of her belongings as she made up her mind. She was set to leave the blood moon pack for good, in her opinion, it was for the best. She didn't want to live with the pain of seeing Ian with another woman. He was the one she had ever loved, the only man she ever wanted. Elyse threw her bag over the window at the same moment that a knock came on her door. Kelly stepped inside without waiting for a response. "How are you feeling?" On close speculation, Elyse did not look alright but Kelly wanted to hear from her. It was right that she made peace with her sister. "You don't have to worry about me. I'm totally fine." Kelly knew the truth was far from this but she didn't want to press her sister. "I'm sorry Elly, I also didn't chose this. I..." what exactly was she supposed to say? I'm sorry Elly but Ian is mine now, you just have to move on. That would just be her protective side kicking in. The mate bond was doing wonders with her that she didn't even understand. Elyse wiped out the stray tear that fell down her sister's cheek. Her own eyes also brimming with unshed tears. "There's nothing to worry about sis. Someday, I would find a man who would look at me the same way Ian looks at you." She allowed the tears to fall down her cheek after those words. It would happen. She would find a man who would love and cherish her. That man was just not meant to be Ian.
