Chapter 1 Prologue: The Beginning

There was once a small quiet town, where a girl named Elara lived. Everyone knew her for her good heart and for the bright smile. Life seemed simple, all filled with love from her family and devotion from her husband, Adrian. Or so she thought.

One fateful night crumbled that. Returning home after visiting her ailing father, she found her husband hugging another woman. Her heart was sliced by the lack of trust as if with a sharp knife. Breaking down, Elara clashed with Adrian; instead of showing signs of regret, he revealed that he stopped loving her long ago. He had met someone else, a woman who made him "feel alive" in ways that Elara never had.

This had crushed Elara down; she had nowhere to turn to but the family, and fate didn't treat her much better than that. Her parents died one after another within weeks, and she was utterly left in the cold, having no choice but to yield to despair. She did think, at times that she wouldn't survive it.

But secretly, something inside her began burning. She was no longer that fragile woman whom people had abandoned and betrayed. She was stronger than she knew, and she now decided she would rebuild her life-not for others but for herself. And in that resolve, she also made another vow: those who hurt her would pay.

Elara walked out of town and into the city. She started life anew. She worked through day and night, taking on multiple jobs to scrape together enough to start her own business. She learned new skills, studied with fierce dedication and honed her mind. With time, small businesses grew into a massive empire. She was no more that broken woman from her past; she is powerful, wealthy, and feared.

Five years after the day she'd run for her life, she returned to Elara's hometown, but this time as a woman of authority, not the timid one. Adrian had hit rock bottom; his affair was what had killed him. His new lover deserted him, and he barely survived. He did not know the woman who walked into the bar where he worked until she told him so.

"I am Elara?" he stammered, unable to believe what his eyes were telling him.

She was smiling, though warmth and kindness had been gone from the face a long time ago. Now, the smile was cold and sharp.

"I have come for collections, Adrian. You took everything from me, and now's my time to pay for what I borrowed."

It was she who had tactfully arranged Adrian's financial downfall through her acquaintances. His debts were piling up against him, and nobody was inclined towards helping him in any way. He was at her mercy now. But revenge was not just about making him suffer; it was about showing him the strength she had made now.

Adrian begged for forgiveness, but Elara had no intentions to go back now.

"You made your choice," she said calmly. "I made mine," she said, speaking words that cut through him like a knife.

And at the end, Elara did not need to destroy him further since he'd done that unto himself. She took her leave, walking with his head held high and freed from the shackles of pain entwined in memories.

Elara had lost everything and rebuilt herself into something unbreakable. And in the end, her greatest victory was not revenge-it was the life she'd created from the ashes.
