Luna shambled into the living room with her cloth heavily drenched. Her father and sisters were seated in the living room, discussing in hushed tones when she walked in. "And where are you coming from with your cloth so drenched?" Her father's harsh voice made her stop in her tracks. "I went for a jog father and the rain beat me on my way back." "Redox was at our house today and because of your absence, we couldn't finalize the deal we had." "Why is it important that I am present? After all we all know to be wary of Redox and his family." "Because there is a marriage alliance going on and you, Luna is the one whom I have in mind for him!" He uttered the last sentence slowly. Luna felt the ground beneath her shake and her knees almost buckled to the ground. "What? That's not fair! Why would you marry me off to Redox?" She asked, her lips quivering. "Because I said so. You had better get ready and not bring shame to the family." He warned before leaving the room. Luna's eyes followed her father's moving profile before diverting her gaze to her sisters. She then stumbled backwards as her chest heaved repeatedly. She was about to be married off to Redox, the mafia lord of the City. What would her life become?
The club is boisterous, animated and lively.
Dim Burundi lights and white foggy smoke set the ambiance of the lively club as the people dance to the rhythm of the music.
"We shouldn't be here." Were the words that left the peach lips of the youngest, Luna.
Her eyes raked the appearance of everyone it could spot on in the club.
Her two older sisters, Cynix and Sonnia stared at her dumbfounded. "What do you mean?"
She shrugged her shoulders at them going over to the bar counter.
"Why are you such a baby? I get that you are still young but can't you atleast be daring!" Sonnia yells going over to the bar.
"Why must you always be scared?" Cynix concurs.
"Dad just..."Luna tries defending herself but is quickly shunned off by her older sisters.
"Daddy's pet. Stop acting like you are the most obedient you know. It will not get you anywhere." Cynix scoffs before leaving.
Luna stared at her silhouette figure disappear into the club and her eyes narrowed back to Sonnia. "Sonnia you understand me don't you? You are the eldest. I'm just trying to..."
"Save it." Sonnia immediately scowls before leaving Luna to herself. Luna watches her sisters disperse and a sudden sting of sharp pain brews up within her.
She watched her sisters leave like they always do and suddenly felt a gag haul up in her throat.
Why do they always see any thing I do as a threat? It has just been this way ever since we were little. They don't consider me as a sister and are always quick to throw accusing fingers at me. Father loved all his children equally and I wasn't trying to prove that I was the most obedient and diligent just for his favor.
They are my sisters for God's sake. What will I gain from putting them in a bad light?
The pain had her demanding and she immediately scampered towards the exit. She ignored her sisters who also ignored her leaving presence as they twirled their bodies around men.
The club had a stench of sex and alcohol soaring in the air. I wouldn't be surprised if people were having sex in the bathroom.
Reaching for the glass doors of the club, she accidentally bumped into a tall figure who walked into the club the exact time as she reached forward for the door handle.
"Sorry." She mumbled past him not wanting to stand and apologize further.
She could barely even see his face because of how dim the lightning in the club was. Rubbing her forehead, she ambled outside when an arm suddenly spurned her around from behind. Her eyes met with three men of equal muscularity and confusion washes over her face.
Grabbing her expression with their bareful stares, they seemed so dangerous. The kind you shouldn't mess with.
"What do you want?" She asked, putting up a stoic expression on her face.
"When you apologize, do it properly." One announced, flashing her dagger eyes.
Luna's brows pulled together. He wasn't even the one I bumped into so what was his stress?
She could tell he wasn't the one even though she didn't see the face of who she had hit but the outfits stood as a distinction.
"You aren't even the one I bumped into." She retorted back.
Her irritation soured and her legs were itching to leave the area.
"My boss is.." another replied, taking a step forward.
Luna instinctively staggered backwards and stylishly reached for the pepper spray in the pocket of her jacket.
The sun was setting and the horizontal canvas of pink and orange colors which decorated the sky were slowly transforming into starry blue colors. The moon was yet to appear but the stars were already gracing the sky with their presence. All these features made the streets dangerous and one could easily be harassed. She had no clue who these men were and why they were so keen on her not apologizing properly to their boss.
"Well tell your boss I said sorry. I mumbled it when I hit him. Does he expect a feast for an apology?" She yelled the last words out and pivoted immediately.
"He wouldn't be happy with that sort of apology." She heard from behind her.
Luna couldn't make out who said it nor did she care. "Then to hell with the apology." She cursed before getting onto her parked motorbike.
...............
Seated on the broad sofa placed in the vip lounge of the club was Redox Michaelson. His emerald eyes were stationed on to his men who walked back into the club. Skimpy dressed ladies flanked themselves around him, hoping to get a response from him while a red haired woman grinded her lower region onto his crotch but it did not seem to get his attention as another thing ate him up.
"Where is she?" He demanded.
Dion, one of the men replied, "She refused on giving you an apology."
Redox felt himself frothing on the inside.
Who did that girl think she is to disrespect him in such a manner?
"Calm down Redox." Apex advised noticing how tensed Redox had become. He then took a seat facing him. "You three just let her walk away like that?" Redox tried not to yell but his anger got the better of him and he pushed the red haired woman off him.
A screech left her red lips but she dared not complain. "Take this and get out."
Redox threw a huge bundle of money at her from an opened brief case.
"You all get out!" He yelled, throwing extra bundles at the ladies flanked around him and his men. Their eyes shone with distaste at how rudely he treated them but the sight of cash had them drooling at his feet and they hearkened to his command.
