Chapter 1 The Call That Changed Everything

-----

The streets were unusually quiet tonight.

Morgana adjusted the straps of her schoolbag, the weight of her drawing pad digging into her shoulder. Her sneakers scraped along the cracked pavement as she rode her scouter-half-worn wheels squeaking under her weight. A full moon hung low above the slums, casting silver light over trash bins, shuttered shops, and puddles that glimmered like broken glass.

She was late again. Her aunt would scream at her.

But she didn't care. Not tonight.

Drawing had consumed her in the library. Sketching designs she could never afford to make, she'd forgotten the time again. Her mind still swirled with the lace patterns she'd dreamt up-vintage corsets reimagined with street style, dramatic sleeves paired with bold chokers. In school she felt like an outcast.

Everybody in school hates her and she has coped with it for a long time so she stays on her own just scribbling on her drawing pad.

She almost missed the car.

It was parked awkwardly by the side of the road. Engine off. Lights still on. One of the doors slightly ajar. Her face shone in confusion

Something about it felt... wrong.

Morgana slowed to a stop. Her eyes narrowed.

She inched closer, glancing around. The streets were empty, except for a dog barking somewhere in the distance.

"Hello...?" she called softly, heart beginning to pound.

No answer.

She crept to the driver's side and peeked in.

Her breath hitched.

In there was a man-old, gray-haired, well-dressed-was slumped against the wheel. Blood dripped from his forehead. His hand twitched slightly. His breathing was shallow, almost nonexistent. Like he was at the edge hanging for his dear life.

"Oh my God... Sir are you okay?"

No reply.

Panic surged in her chest.

She yanked the door open and looked around the interior. Her hands trembled as she reached for the phone lying on the floorboard. Its screen was cracked, but still active. With shaking fingers, she unlocked it-no password.

That was a relief.

She scrolled through the contacts, eyes darting to the man's chest every few seconds, checking if it was still rising.

"Please don't die... please don't die..." she whispered.

The first contact on the list: "Anderson."

She didn't know who that was. But she had no choice.

She pressed the call button.

It rang once.

Twice.

A deep voice picked up. Sharp. Annoyed.

"Hello"

Morgana's voice shook. "I-I don't know who I'm speaking to. But-there's a man. He's hurt. I found him on the road. Blood is coming out from his head-he's not waking up. His phone was open so I called the first name on his contact list."

There was a long silence. Then the voice became alert, icy.

"Where are you?"

She gave the street name. Her voice cracked. "Please come quick. His breathe is decelerating."

"I'm on my way."

The line cut.

Morgana's hands trembled as she knelt beside the man again. "You'll be okay," she whispered, her throat tight. "Someone's coming for you."

---

Five minutes felt like fifty.

Then the flashing red and white lights of an ambulance painted the street. The sirens grew louder until the van screeched to a halt.

Paramedics jumped out.

Morgana stumbled back as they swarmed around the man-checking his vitals, lifting him onto a stretcher.

One of them looked at her. "You called?"

She nodded. "Yes. I found him. He was bleeding-he's not waking up."

The man nodded. "You saved his life, girl."

She didn't feel like a savior. Her legs were shaking.

Then a black SUV pulled up behind the ambulance.

A tall man stepped out. Dark suit. Sharp jawline. Cold, unreadable eyes.

He looked like he could freeze fire with a glance.

He strode toward the stretcher.

Morgana stayed still, just staring at him.

The man glanced at her once. His expression unreadable.

"You found him?"

"Yes..." she answered quietly. "I-I didn't know what to do so I had to call."

His jaw clenched. "You did the right thing."

Before she could say anything more, the ambulance doors slammed shut, and the sirens roared back to life.

Morgana stood there, alone, watching the man she didn't know vanish into the night without a trace.

Something inside her shifted.

She didn't know it yet...

But nothing about her life would ever be the same again after this incident .

I Slapped My Fiancé-Then Married His Billionaire Nemesis

Being second best is practically in my DNA. My sister got the love, the attention, the spotlight. And now, even her damn fiancé. Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now-billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn't mind. I'd crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one? Wrong. One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That's when it hit me-he didn't love me. He didn't even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn't even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup. So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster-my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise. Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol. Enter him. Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I'd met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes. It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised. But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life. And, as it turned out, the best decision I'd ever made. Because my one-night stand isn't just some random guy. He's richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with. And now, he's not letting me go.
