She was his assignment but he was her only hope for survival. Cassidy Klein finds herself attached to something....or someone. Looks like they've met before but under different circumstances. Jaxon Belgravia, hot and sexy and typically every girls dreams has some secrets. An enforcer and a lover boy? How possible could that be? *** "Are you gonna end it off or gonna let history repeat itself Mr Belgravia" Her voice teetering of the edge as she held on to her sanity. Holding her face tightly yet gently, his fingers caressed her cheeks as he stared into those warm pools of caramel and honey. "I'm afraid this time, no one has a say" Jaxon's left hand grabbed the hilt of his sword and swung it blindly earning a shrill scream as tears rolled down his cheeks. *** Would he let his heart over his sword or go against direct orders even from a hundred years?
The rays of the moonlight created a little light for the fugitives but still managed to create a nice background for the impending war.
"Just leave without me, it's no use!" Cassie groaned, she panted behind him as he pulled her along.
She was his and she belonged to him till death..... even in death.
"I'm not leaving you behind snowdrop" His voice was both frustrated and demanding.
Jaxon's eyes slowly went to where she was clutching and she tried to turn but his eyes caught sight of the eagle's feather sticking out like a price, he couldn't mistake that trademark could he?
"Shit!" He pulled her down to the moss covered ground and laid her head gently against the tree stump.
His eyes were glued to the arrow impaled in her belly but slowly met her eyes.
Those beautiful brown eyes that were usually filled with delight and life were now drained and mirrored pain, anguish and something else- fear
"End me and take my head to your father, I can't be...." His lips were suddenly on hers silencing anything else she had to say. Soldiers with lamps passed quickly without even noticing them, the dried leaves crunching beneath their feet.
"At least that should have been when we weren't a thing, but now...."
He trailed of as he removed her bloody hands from her stomach and held both her hands in his.
"We're married snowdrop and whether they like it or not, we're one alright?"
Cassie nodded slowly as teats slipped from her lids, she couldn't help it.
The whole county were against their relationship. She was at his mercy. The next to die for the people's redemption.
"Now I need you to look at me baby" Jaxon's voice called to her, urging her.
Slowly, he pulled the arrow from her stomach and winced as he heard the sound of iron against flesh. What usually gave him joy executing could make him puke now.
He was a living death machine, born and made to kill, anyone. And she was his assignment but one he couldn't execute.
His head fell as he hugged her, his breathe ragged as he knew she couldn't last long until he could get her to the spiritualist who would help with herbs to heal her.
Her arms slowly snaked around his and she took his scent in.....
Honey ...fresh pines....and love...
The man she grew to love. She couldn't stop the tears from flowing and didn't even realize that he had carried her.
Cassie raised her head and could she the beams of light from a distance, could here the war songs, could see the king barking out orders, against his own son. And it was all her fault.
He shut her eyes tight and hugged him closer not wanting to let go.
"I'm sorry"
"No need to be, okay?"
***
"C'mon make me yours already"
Jaxon smiled, a sincere one, she was so enthusiastic for everything.
"I can't baby, you're still injured...here drink this" Bringing the bowl to her mouth carefully, he held her up into a sitting positing position.
Within the blink of an eyes, the bowl and it's content were on the floor and it was replaced by her soft delicate hand.
Staring down into her eyes he couldn't even bring himself to being mad at her.
Tonight she was his and he hers.
But....
"I can't snowdrop, you gotta wait"
And with that he went out to gather fresh herbs.
Few minutes later as he was packing up, he saw a bunch of raspberry. Her favorite.
He reached out to pluck it, not until he heard a deep piercing scream.
All the hairs at his back stood alert.
CASSIE!!!!
He left the basket of herbs behind and sprinted down to the cabin.
"Nooooo!!" Jaxon screamed as his knee gave way and he fell to the ground.
Spurting blood from her mouth, a hunting knife was lodged deep in her throat. The intricate gold design....it was hers. They used her own weapon against her.
Tears and rage boiled up from his insides, hot and wild.
_Who dared to do this? Such a coward to do it in his absence_
The tears came without stopping he cleaned them furiously. His Cassie wouldn't want to see him broken.
Those beautiful brown eyes were wide with fear, lifeless.
With shaky hands, he reached out and closed them. Shutting his eyes as tears ran freely from them he pulled out the knife from her throat. Choking on the metallic taste of her blood he looked at the knife.
This was a gift he gave her and now it was the cause of her death. He clenched his hands around it and let his blood gush. He raised her already heavy hands, white and drained of life. He made a cut across her palm and placed his gushing hand on hers.
A blood oath....a renewal.
He felt the energy coarse through his body. Now they were truly bounded and bonded even in spirit.
"I'm going to kill whoever dared to do this to you snowdrop. I'm sorry I failed to protect you " With her he was vulnerable and he'll die avenging her.
"_Well, you basically made me finish up your assignment_"
Jaxon stilled as he heard that familiar voice. He sighed as he placed her knife back in her hands and wrapped her chilled fingers around them. "I'll come find you snowdrop. I promise " He quickly said in a hushed whisper as he placed a kiss on her pale blue lips and smiled
His Cassie was still beautiful even in death.
Finally to face his father.
"She was mine old man!" He said angrily between clenched teeth.
King Marcus the third stood proud in his full regalia smiling at his son. "Already disrespectful huh?"
"Fuck off" Jaxon said as he unsheathed his sword from it's she'll.
"C'mon son, you wouldn't fight your father because of a commoner, she's just a sacrifice dear"
"Well your damned ancestors would be getting one more"
Cuts, under blows and wide arcs followed, soon Marcus had Jaxon pinned down to the floor, sword against sword. Teeth bared like that of a wild animal, Jaxon spat out a mouthful of blood onto his father's face who grunted in disgust.
"You never had to kill her yunno?"
"She was useless just like you!" His father's tone suddenly became the way he remembered years ago- disgust, hate and above all distrust.
"I expected you to be able to cultivate after all these years but you couldn't, task after task, I gave you a chance, but now you made me complete an assignment for you. Tsk tsk son, I'm so disappointed in you "
"You've always been"
The air in the room suddenly became cold to the two of warriors surprise. A wolfish grin graced Jaxon's face.
"Darn it, it can't be. You couldn't have...." The king stuttered as he tried getting up but it seemed like he was stuck like glue....like death.
"Let's end this once and for all, Snowdrop's waiting, old man" Jaxon closed his eyes and he seemed to be meditating.
"C'mon...son..we c...could talk this through" Marcus voice suddenly lost it's charisma and was now hoarse and weak, his skin now gray as his son was technically sucking the life out of him.
Marcus let go of his sword and gripped his own neck like a vice trying to save his breath from leaving his body.
A sound echoed, feral and void of any emotion. Jaxon.
"You were eager not to a while ago."
"Son...nooooooo"
And soon his father's body slumped life a sac beside him. Lifeless. His eyes glassy, iris and pupils long gone. He was like dried raisin.
Jaxon stood up with shaky legs, still trying to compose his mind when something flashed in his peripheral -Cassie.
Scared, happy , obsessed, enthusiastic and finally gone...long gone.
It was driving him crazy, they were meant to start a life away from all these dramas, a life together.
But that was stolen away from him in a blink of an eye.
"Noooo" he gasped as he felt suffocated not in reality though, his mind.
It was pressing down hard on him. He hadn't mastered that technique yet and now the side effects were taking place.
Before he could close his eyes, he glanced at Cassie's body and smiled, "Sorry I couldn't give you a proper burial snowdrop, but I'll be able to give you a befitting wedding right after my punishment"
And with a smile and a vow, he slipped out of consciousness. Not dead, not alive.
