Chapter 1 Rejected and Betrayed

Summer's POV

"Long live, Luna!" Everyone bowed before me. A contented smile plastered on my lips, looking at the elder wolves, who were about to crown me as the Luna.

We were outside the palace, every member of the pack was available.

The Alpha, my step dad, died a couple of months ago, it has been so scary and lonely but my step sister, Gianna and I pushed it through. Ever since, the throne has been empty with no ruler, which led to the conclusion that I have to become the Luna for the time being.

My mate, Alan, helped me all the way until this very period. He was supposed to be my Alpha, but because he wasn't from this pack, he wasn't allowed.

My mother is the second wife of the late Alpha, he married my mother as she was his second chance mate. While the Alpha had a daughter already, who is slightly older than me.

I gripped my dress nervously, looking at the crowd but couldn't catch a glimpse of my sister. Cheers and laughter filled the air. I tried to force a smile but it was getting harder to do because my sister and my mate aren't here.

'Where could they be?' my wolf, Skylar, asked, also concerned.

'No idea,' I responded, my eyes scanning through the crowd. Gianna would have been crowned as the Luna but because she's half-human and half-werewolf. That's why the title was passed on me.

"And now, we will crown the Luna. Praying to the moon goddess for her regime to bring us peace, happiness and prosperity,"

"Amen!" The crowd chorused, snapping me out of my thoughts. The female elder wolf picked up the crown, coming closer to me.

My expression turned gloomy, thinking my mate and sister wouldn't see me getting crowned.

"Congratulations, child," the elder female wolf, Sybil exclaimed, grinning ear-to-ear. I forced a smile, tilting my head to her to wear the crown on me.

"Hey, stop!" I raised my head as I recognized that voice. It was coming from the crowd. Sybil's movement halted, we all turned to look at who had said that.

It was Alan.

I was confused at why he had said that, but his presence got my heart racing. I flashed him a wavy smile, as he walked up to me.

He clenched his jaw, looking furious. I wanted to stand up and give him a tight hug but I didn't wanna embarrass myself in front of the audience.

"What's going on?" The question was heard from the crowd. I stood up as well and waited until he was closer to me but I was shocked at what he did next.

He yanked me off the throne and I fell miserably on the floor. My eyes widened in shock and I raised my head to look at him, completely lost.

"Are you normal?! What is wrong with you, Alan?!" One of the elder wolves scolded him in a loud voice.

"You all are about to crown a traitor!" He proclaimed, making everyone gasp. I picked myself up and hitted his chest.

"Are you high or something? What's the meaning of all this?" I demanded, he hissed before pushing me away harshly. I fell off to the bottom of the small stairs before the throne. My body was aching until I felt a feet kick me hard.

"Argh!" I cried out, glancing up to see who it was. My eyes almost bulged out, seeing my sister, looking down at me with mere disgust.

"Gianna," I mumbled in a shaky voice.

"Can someone explain what's happening here to us?!" Sybil growled.

"I will do that," Gianna responded, stepping on me and climbing up the throne. It was well-spaced for a few people to stand beside it.

My heart was pounding heavily. I limped up and looked at Gianna and Alan with teary eyes.

"She's a murderer! She killed my Dad and her mother in order to get the throne!"

"What?!" Everyone gasped again.

My heart dropped in my chest when I heard her bloody lie. I couldn't even utter a word, continuing gawking at them with my mouth agape.

"Yes, people!" Alan affirmed, looking so hell-bent. He brought out an envelope from his pocket and passed it to a nearby guard.

"I found this in Summer's chamber. Apparently, Summer who we all know isn't the person she portrays herself to be. The King wrote this letter, hoping one of us would see it. Summer was the one who killed him. In order to bury the truth, she hid this letter from everyone!" He ranted, looking all furious.

"That's not true! How can I be capable of killing an Alpha?! It doesn't make sense at all!" I defended, climbing up the stairs to meet Alan.

"B-Baby, what are you doing? You know that I can never do that," I mumbled to him fearfully. My tears were falling freely now.

He gazed at me but Gianna came in between us and pushed me away.

"Don't you dare try to make him hide the truth from everyone with your little tricks! I hate to call you my sister!" She spat out coldly.

"She has to be beheaded for killing the Alpha!"

"She's a murder!"

"Justice for the late Alpha!"

"She has to die!"

"Her actions are unforgivable!"

The crowd continued to chant different words. Gianna smirked at me, looking all cunning. Something clicked, she moved closer to Alan and intertwined their hands together.

I saw red immediately.

"Let go of my man!" I shrieked, charging towards her. But my hair was pulled by Sybil.

"How dare you, Summer?! You care about your mate now after leaving us with no ruler for months!" Sybil roared at me.

"I, Alan Yates, reject you, Summer Howl as my mate and partner!" Alan boomed and I dropped to my knees involuntarily. The excruciating bond breaking pain was so great that I roared loudly.

He almost dropped to his knees but I saw Gianna pouring something inside his mouth, that would make him feel lesser pains. Veins were bulging out of my forehead, looking at the interaction between the both of them.

Elodie took a deep breath and knocked, the sound echoing in the quiet corridor. A moment of silence passed, broken only by the pounding of her heart.
