After I was diagnosed with infertility, my husband insisted on divorcing me, but Makenna stopped him. She said: "You can't lose out on the wedding gifts you spent to marry her; why not sell her and recoup some of your investment?" So, Makenna sold me off into the mountains, where I endured humiliation and was tortured to death. When I opened my eyes again, I found that I had returned to the time before I was trafficked. In this new life, I would no longer tolerate it; instead, I sold Makenna out.

Chapter 1

I discovered I was infertile, and my husband insisted on divorcing me, but Makenna stopped him. She said, "We spent wedding gifts to bring her into the family, so we can't lose out. Why not sell her to recoup some of the cost?"

So, Makenna sold me off cheaply to an isolated rural village, where I endured humiliation and torment until I died.

When I opened my eyes again, I found myself back before I was trafficked.

In this new life, I would not tolerate it anymore. Instead, I would sell Makenna off in return.

"Everyone, look at this delicious meal my daughter-in-law made for me. Doesn't it look delicious? I'm going to eat now, so that's it for today's video. See you tomorrow, everyone."

Makenna was recording her short video with her phone.

Seeing this scene, I could hardly believe it. I had actually been reborn to the time before I was trafficked.

Thinking of all the suffering and torment I endured in my previous life, I clenched my teeth and fists tightly.

Finally, I could take revenge for the past...

Thinking about this, I trembled with excitement, an uncontrollable thrill coursing through me.

"Why did you buy so much meat? My son isn't home today. I can't possibly eat all this meat by myself, and it's a waste for someone who can't bear a son to eat it."

Makenna turned off her phone, her kind expression vanishing instantly, replaced by displeasure as she pointed at me.

"Why are you standing there? Put the meat away and save it for when my son comes home from work."

Seeing that I didn't move, Makenna grew impatient.

In my previous life, I felt guilty for being unable to conceive and tolerated her daily bullying. But in this life, I would no longer choose to endure.

I threw the bowl of meat dishes at her. The scalding meat and broth splashed onto her, making her scream repeatedly.

"Ah! Are you trying to burn me to death? You little brat, how could you waste such good meat? My son still..."

Despite the red and swollen burns on her body, Makenna was still thinking about the wasted meat.

Seeing how petty and calculating she was, I felt a wave of anger. In my previous life, knowing I couldn't have children, she had tried to make money off me, squeezing out the only value I had.

Ignoring her curses, I grabbed some pickles and stuffed them into her mouth.

"If you don't eat meat, then eat your pickles. Eat more, eat, eat, eat. If you love it so much, eat pickles for the rest of your life..."

With red eyes, I kept stuffing the vegetables into her mouth until I felt exhausted and my anger subsided.

As soon as I let go, Makenna collapsed weakly to the ground.

Seeing her terrified expression, I felt a rush of satisfaction.

"Emmeline! What did you do to my mom?"

My husband rushed in and helped Makenna up.

"Ricky, you're finally back. If you hadn't come back, you might never have seen me again."

Seeing my husband, Makenna regained her confidence and became arrogant again.

"How dare you lay a hand on my mom? This is the last straw." My husband rolled up his sleeves, ready to hit me.

We had met in college and decided to get married after graduation. However, my parents didn't approve of him and demanded twenty thousand dollars in wedding gifts to stop the marriage.

Blinded by his sweet words, I took out my savings and gave them to him to marry me. Who would have thought that after marriage, he would treat me like this because I couldn't conceive?

Thinking of how he had deceived me before, I felt a wave of anger.

"How dare you? Aren't you the one who wants a divorce? If you dare to hit me, I'll accuse you of domestic violence. Let's see if I can make you divorce without taking any assets away."

I glared at him, as if I could pierce through him.

"Alright, alright, you wretch. You've got some nerve, haven't you? You even dare to threaten me now."

Although my husband didn't relent verbally, he lowered his sleeves.

"Wretch, don't think I can't deal with you like this," Makenna shouted at me.

I ignored her, turned around, went back to my room, and started submitting resumes online.

My world revolved around Jax Harding, my older brother's captivating rockstar friend. From sixteen, I adored him; at eighteen, I clung to his casual promise: "When you're 22, maybe I'll settle down." That offhand comment became my life's beacon, guiding every choice, meticulously planning my twenty-second birthday as our destiny. But on that pivotal day in a Lower East Side bar, clutching my gift, my dream exploded. I overheard Jax' s cold voice: "Can't believe Savvy's showing up. She' s still hung up on that stupid thing I said." Then the crushing plot: "We' re gonna tell Savvy I' m engaged to Chloe, maybe even hint she' s pregnant. That should scare her off." My gift, my future, slipped from my numb fingers. I fled into the cold New York rain, devastated by betrayal. Later, Jax introduced Chloe as his "fiancée" while his bandmates mocked my "adorable crush"-he did nothing. As an art installation fell, he saved Chloe, abandoning me to severe injury. In the hospital, he came for "damage control," then shockingly shoved me into a fountain, leaving me to bleed, calling me a "jealous psycho." How could the man I loved, who once saved me, become this cruel and publicly humiliate me? Why was my devotion seen as an annoyance to be brutally extinguished with lies and assault? Was I just a problem, my loyalty met with hatred? I would not be his victim. Injured and betrayed, I made an unshakeable vow: I was done. I blocked his number and everyone connected to him, severing ties. This was not an escape; this was my rebirth. Florence awaited, a new life on my terms, unburdened by broken promises.
