My 18-year-old step-sister got pregnant before getting married. To cover up the scandal, my father set a trap for me and made me sleep with my step-sister. Then he forced me to wear the green hat (a Chinese idiom meaning to be cuckolded). I wanted to find out the truth, but my father pushed me into the river and I died a miserable death. After being reborn, I no longer resist. When faced with my father's unreasonable demands again, I smiled and said, "Dad, of course I'm willing to marry her. Why let others enjoy the benefits of our hard work?"

Chapter 1

Chapter 1

[1]

My stepsister, who had just turned eighteen, found herself pregnant, causing quite the scandal in our family.

To cover up the situation, my father devised a plan, tricking me into spending the night with her.

Afterward, he forced me to take the blame and responsibility for her pregnancy.

I wanted to uncover the truth, but my father pushed me into the river, leading to my untimely and tragic death.

After being given a second chance at life, I decided to take a different approach.

When my father repeated his unreasonable demand, I simply smiled and said, "Dad, of course, I'd be willing to marry her. Why let someone else take advantage?"

[2]

I was reborn a week before my twentieth birthday.

After a long day at work, I saw my father, who lived far away, waiting outside my apartment.

He looked anxious. "Charlie, I came to ask you to come home and celebrate your birthday with us."

I was confused. "Dad, what are you talking about? My birthday is still a week away, and I've been really busy with work lately. I don't have time to go back with you."

My father suddenly realized his mistake and explained, "Oh, right, right, I got the date wrong. Your birthday is next week. How about this, you come home with me now."

I still shook my head and took out my keys to open the door. "Dad, I won't be celebrating my birthday with you this time. This project is really important, and I can't take any time off."

My father ignored my words and forcefully pushed my hand away.

"I don't care. You're coming home with me now."

As he spoke, he started pulling me outside.

In the midst of our struggle, my father suddenly slapped me across the face.

The sharp pain brought back memories of my past life.

In my previous life, it was also on this day that he called me home to celebrate my birthday.

Seeing the worry on his face, I thought something had happened, so I went home with him a week early.

On my birthday, I got drunk and passed out for the night.

The next day, thinking everything was fine, I returned to the city to continue working.

Two months later, at my celebration party, my father and Leyla showed up with a pregnancy test report and several photos of me lying in bed with Mabel.

They accused me of assaulting Mabel and claimed she was pregnant with my child.

I had no recollection of those photos.

But my father said, "Charlie, you coward, you did this on your birthday last time."

I couldn't defend myself against his accusations.

My boss left in anger, and my celebration party was ruined.

I returned home, intending to take Mabel to the hospital for a check-up to uncover the truth.

But my father refused.

He said, "Whether it's yours or not, it's still your sister's. If you marry her, our family can save on both the wedding expenses and the dowry. It's a win-win."

Seeing that I couldn't persuade my stubborn father, I planned to leave that night.

But as I was crossing the bridge, my father knocked me out and threw me into the river.

Just before I lost consciousness, I heard Leyla's gloating voice.

"Charlie, you can't blame us for this. You should blame yourself for not listening. Now that you're dead, Mabel's child will have a place."

When I opened my eyes again, I had been reborn.

That slap completely woke me up, and memories came flooding back.

The nagging voice in my ear continued.

"I don't care, you're coming home with me..."

It was my father, still stubbornly pulling me.

Realizing this was a trap set for me, I grabbed his hand and gave a reassuring smile. "Alright, Dad, I'll take leave now and go home with you right away."

The sterile hum of the hospital room was my last lullaby. I was Alex Miller, a game developer, fading away after a hit-and-run crash. My wife, Sarah, had spent three years turning my life into a living hell, her words sharper than any blade, all to push me away. Divorce papers, a constant reminder of my failures, sat untouched on our counter. I believed her staged betrayals and cruel jabs until the very end, telling the nurse to ensure Sarah knew I was finally gone, free from my burden. But death offered no escape, only a spectral front-row seat to my own funeral. I watched Sarah, her face a mask, her eyes raw, remain long after everyone left. Then, a terrifying truth unfolded: she hunted down my killer with relentless fury, breaking his limbs before calling the police. A week later, at my grave, under a full moon, she whispered words that tore through the veil of death. "Alex, I'm here to stay. I'm so sorry. I just wanted you to live, to be happy, without me." She revealed a medical diagnosis: Glioblastoma. Terminal. Then, she climbed into my casket, swallowing pills, choosing to die with me. The world fractured, then slammed back together. I gasped, sitting at our kitchen table, the scent of coffee and Sarah's perfume filling the air. She slid divorce papers across the table, her voice flat. "I've found someone else, Alex. He's successful. He can give me what you can't." It was the day it all started, her cruel, self-sacrificing performance beginning anew. But this time, I knew the script. With trembling hands, I ripped the papers to shreds, then pulled my terrified, lying wife into my arms. "Are you crazy?" I whispered, tears welling. "Hiding a terminal illness? Do you think that's cool?"

The cheap cotton sheets felt real, too real for a man who' d just died a brutal death in a remote facility. My eyes snapped open to my familiar apartment, the one I shared with Sarah, a place I hadn' t seen in over a year. Then I saw my reflection: unmarred, clear-eyed, not the skeletal, scarred figure I' d become. It was the day. The day my life was systematically dismantled by the two people I trusted most: my cousin, Liam White, and my ex-fiancée, Chloe Davis. Liam, my supposed brother, had twisted Chloe' s love for me into hate, then moved into her mansion, living the life that was supposed to be mine. He fabricated lies about my gambling debts and mistresses, even selling Chloe' s prized vintage Porsche and blaming me. Her wealth and influence became the weapons she used to destroy me. The final blow came with Olivia Reed, Chloe' s best friend, pregnant with Liam' s child. They faked a fall, blamed me for her miscarriage, and used Chloe' s power to have me locked away in a hellish facility. I remembered the sharp pain, my own blood pooling on concrete, and then… nothing. Until now. My phone rang, cutting through the silence. Chloe Davis. In my past life, I' d pleaded, begged, and been ruined. "Ethan Miller, you piece of trash! Where is my husband?" she shrieked, venom dripping from her voice. But the man who feared her was dead. With a newfound calm, I ended the call. The silence that followed was a declaration of war, and this time, I knew all the moves.

I was sitting in the Presidential Suite of The Pierre, wearing a Vera Wang gown worth more than most people earn in a decade. It was supposed to be the wedding of the century, the final move to merge two of Manhattan's most powerful empires. Then my phone buzzed. It was an Instagram Story from my fiancé, Jameson. He was at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris with a caption that read: "Fuck the chains. Chasing freedom." He hadn't just gotten cold feet; he had abandoned me at the altar to run across the world. My father didn't come in to comfort me. He burst through the door roaring about a lost acquisition deal, telling me the Holland Group would strip our family for parts if the ceremony didn't happen by noon. My stepmother wailed about us becoming the laughingstock of the Upper East Side. The Holland PR director even suggested I fake a "panic attack" to make myself look weak and sympathetic to save their stock price. Then Jameson’s sleazy cousin, Pierce, walked in with a lopsided grin, offering to "step in" and marry me just to get his hands on my assets. I looked at them and realized I wasn't a daughter or a bride to anyone in that room. I was a failed asset, a bouncing check, a girl whose own father told her to go to Paris and "beg" the man who had just publicly humiliated her. The girl who wanted to be loved died in that mirror. I realized that if I was going to be sold to save a merger, I was going to sell myself to the one who actually controlled the money. I marched past my parents and walked straight into the VIP holding room. I looked the most powerful man in the room—Jameson’s cold, ruthless uncle, Fletcher Holland—dead in the eye and threw the iPad on the table. "Jameson is gone," I said, my voice as hard as stone. "Marry me instead."
