Chapter 1 Unspoken Desires

Jane and Lawrence sat beside each other as they watched a video at home. Jane felt her heart beating rapidly in her chest. As she sat close to him, she could tell deep down within herself that she had fallen in love yet again. He sat beside her like a log of wood, focusing all his attention on the movie. "What's wrong with him?" she wondered unhappily.

"Doesn't he seem attracted to me the way I feel for him?" she muttered, asking herself questions she couldn't give answers to.

That was the third time she had spent her afternoon with him, yet he failed to notice her moves. Lawrence only acted like he had never developed any iota of feelings for any lady before.

Lawrence was an attractive, wealthy male who caught Jane with his fancy lifestyle right from the first day she packed into the new lodge (hostel).

Unlike most guys, he kept to himself and behaved like a saint, winning Jane's heart with his godly behavior. However, getting him to reciprocate her good gestures towards him was an arduous task.

His intense behavior soon began irritating her, forcing her to make up her mind not to revisit him after that evening because she had her pride to protect, which was more important than her love for him.

Lawrence was in his 300 level, while Jane was in her Second year at the university. Her feelings for him were powerful and divine, but Jane couldn't display her emotions the way she wanted without appearing cheap and disgusting.

Finally, by eight in the evening, the movie ended. Jane sighed and got up from her chair. "Good night," she said to him unhappily, but surprisingly, he held her hand firmly and looked up at her with fire in his eyes.

"Please don't go yet; there is something I wish to tell you," he pleaded. Jane gazed into his eyes and smiled. "Finally, he is living up to expectation," she reasoned.

"Please sit down," he begged. Jane rolled her eyes and sat beside him. I know you trust me a lot; that's why I'm the only guy you always visit, but I can't help it anymore. I have tried holding back my feelings, but I can't any longer because it's killing me silently. I have been dreaming and praying to have someone like you. Please will you grant my request and be my special friend? I've been in love with you from the very first day I saw you," he pleaded nervously, with shaking lips.

Jane stared at him coldly even though she was pleased inside.

"I don't think it will be possible; let's just be friends," she replied and stood up. He tried to draw her hand again, but she snatched it from his grasp. "Goodnight, we will see tomorrow," she murmured, gave him one last look and left for her room.

Jane rushed to her room, hugged her teddy bear happily, and heaved a sigh of relief. She was very much delighted.

"At last, hmm," she murmured happily, falling asleep and dreaming of good times with him.

By Six the following morning, she heard a gentle knock on her door and when she got to it, there stood Samuel with his hands in his trousers, smiling at her. "Good morning," she greeted and yawned.

"I'm so sorry for disturbing you this early; it's just that I was unable to sleep all through last night," he explained nervously.

She let him into her room; he settled on her chair and kept her company while she freshened up.

"Seriously, I still find it hard to converse with you," he confessed, making her giggle and laugh.

"Nevertheless, I don't think it is good to be shy before a lady. Moreover, ladies like guys who are manly," she advised jokingly.

He smiled and stared at her. "You should be as bold as the man that you are. Shouldn't you?" she asked.

Lawrence was standing motionless, only looking at her red lips as they moved back and forth slowly.

"Hope I didn't put you off with my behavior yesterday?" he asked curiously. "I'm so sorry about it," he apologized with a sad look.

Jane breathed deeply, summoned courage, advanced towards him and planced her two fingers on his head which left him totally surprised. "Let's forget about last night," she murmured. He stared at her with a colored face filled up with surprise.

Jane really forced herself to show him affection in order for him to feel free with her.

Jane had never met a complete introvert like Samuel before. Perhaps he might have had no relationship experience before," she reasoned.

Jane sat on her bed that beautiful morning with a calm smile, looking up at him. As their eyes met, he opened his mouth to say something, but no voice came out. Lawrence swallowed hard in embarrassment and got up.

"Are you going back to your room?" she asked anxiously, and he nodded in response.

"Yeah, I didn't warm my soup last night; let me go and check if it has spoiled," he managed to mutter before leaving.

Jane looked away unhappily, even though she didn't make it look so obvious that she was unhappy.

Lawrence really was the kind of guy most ladies dreamt of having, not only because he was good-looking and wealthy, but he was also the quiet type.

Jane knew he felt something for her, but the problem was his manner of approach. He was scared of making the first move, which meant things were left in her hands to encourage him decently because she had fallen for him already.

It only took one very bold step for him to win over her heart. The chemistry was there already, but Jane was being careful not to appear desperate or make it seem like she made the advances. Jane truly wanted him to say the words himself.

"I will make sure he learns to be bold. I will make him try over and over again," she said to herself as she lay on her bed.
