His parents loved their servant's child more, which gave rise to a deep grudge. He did various things to get rid of the child. In the end he succeeded. They never met again but when they grew up, the daughter emerged as a very beautiful woman. Rune could feel the woman's terrible hatred towards him as he began to feel uneasy about his feelings for her.
"I want to marry you when I grow up."
"I also want to marry you Rune."

Those childhood words always haunted Rune even after he achieved all his dreams.
The child of the past was Rune's nickname for Maeva, the maid's daughter who was very dear to her parents. At first, he was happy to play with her, but when he felt that his parents no longer cared about him because they seemed happier with Maeva, he hated the child.
Rune did various things to get rid of Maeva from his life, one of which was to cut off Maeva's family's communication with his family when Maeva's father was sick and caused Maeva's father to die. Since then, Maeva has never been seen again.
Rune had no regrets. Women were crazy about him, his wealth grew, his strength surpassed the toughest men in the military academy where he studied, and he often became a topic of conversation everywhere.
He was wise, ruthless, and responsible.
After studying at the academy for a long time, he finally returned to the house where he grew up.
Rune smiled as soon as he set foot in the courtyard surrounded by a beautiful garden. The maids lined up as they bowed their faces to welcome him. Rune paid them no mind. However, as if some magic had captivated him, he turned his head towards the maids. There was one maid who did not bow to her face.
Rune stopped just to see if he wasn't mistaken.
But that maid instantly lowered her face like the others as if she didn't lower her face because she wanted to see Rune.
Rune approached the maid.
"What's your name?" Rune asked.
The maid still kept her face hidden.
"You don't know? She is Maeva Jade. Your childhood friend," said Mr. Ganrill, Rune's father.
No way.
Maeve finally raised her face and looked at Rune. Her face did not show any emotion. While the other maids seemed excited to see their master return from his study, Maeva looked blank.
"You..."
Rune could not continue his words. Even all the men there stared at Maeva and marveled at her beauty. Maeva was like a hidden treasure.
"Welcome back boss."
Maeva bowed briefly to Rune.
None of the maids called her boss. Rune was again surprised. He felt disturbed. He didn't say anything and turned back to his parents who were waiting to hug him .
The little family didn't know that Maeva was silently staring at them hatefully. She would never forget what happened in the past. After her father died, her mother became depressed and she was often required to change their circumstances for the better because they were so poor. The Ganrill family hadn't helped them since then because their beloved servant was gone.
Her mother told her that if she lost out on education and hard work, then she should be as beautiful as possible to have a chance of being noticed by people with money. Maeva took good care of herself.
Maeva had a grudge lodged in her heart, especially against Rune. The one friend she loved the most but left her. Every time she tried to meet him, everyone always thwarted her. Until finally someone told her that Rune hated her to death.
Her father had died and her mother was depressed. Maeva, an only child, struggled alone to survive. She pleads with the Ganrill family patriarch before the position is taken over by Rune, to be appointed a maid under her father's name.
Maeva was determined to gain influence and take back what she had lost.
Before entering the mansion, Rune looked back at Maeva. Rune had indeed forgotten what Maeva's facial features looked like. But he couldn't believe that the child had grown up that beautiful. He became agitated.
"What are you thinking about?" asked Rune's mother.
"So she's Maeva," said Rune.
"Ever since she appeared here, she's been a hot topic. Men often steal the chance to meet her," said Rune's mother.
"If she's causing the men to not focus on work, why are you keeping her here?" asked Rune. "She should be sent somewhere else."
Rune's parents already knew that their son was jealous of Maeva from the few people who accompanied Rune. They no longer paid attention to Maeva since then.
"She begged and brought her father's name. We feel bad if we don't accept her," said Rune's mother.
"How cunning," said Rune.
Rune didn't want to talk about Maeva anymore. After all, the girl was in his past and now he was focused on his shining life ahead. He was about to get engaged to the only daughter of another conglomerate family that was also quite influential in the city. Everyone talks about them being perfect for each other. Their engagement would be held tonight along with Rune's welcoming party from the military academy.
There was no woman Rune loved. To him, marrying Aile was like something to complete his life and nothing more.
Rune was staring at the floor when Maeva's face suddenly appeared in his mind. That blank expression of hers was like it wanted to kill him. He closed his eyes. For some reason, he felt a complicated uneasiness.

"You said you used to play with Mr. Rune when you were little?"
Cecilia asked Maeva while they were hard at work preparing for the party.
"Isn't a maid's job to serve his master? I only do that much," Maeva replied.
"But it seems Mr. Ganrill was talking about you being Mr. Rune's childhood friend. Mr. Rune was very surprised when he saw your face. You are indeed a very beautiful Maeva . Even Mr. Rune is fascinated by you," Cecilia said.
Maeva found it hard to believe that Rune was fascinated by her. Rune had come this far because blinded by his ambition and wanted to be recognized by his family and meet their expectations as the best. Even though she lived in a remote area, the news about him reached there. Many said he wasn't affected by anything even by the beautiful women who sought his attention, he was cruel and used others as stepping stones. For him it was like reaching the top or dying.
"It's hard to believe he fell for me that easily," Maeva quipped.
After working hard, Maeva went to her room to dress up. She put on the best dress and shoes she owned. When she was done, she looked at herself in the reflection of the mirror. Her eyes were like sharp swords.
