Against His Rules

(Chloe's POV)

(Horn honking from outside my window)

"There's no way you're leaving me behind today again", I shouted as I hurriedly applied my last layer of foundation, smacking my lips and admiring myself in the full mirror lying in front of me. "This young man still hasn't learned to be patient while I get dressed", I mumbled running down the stairs with my shoes, bag, and office file all in my hands.

The long draping gown I had put on was making it more difficult for me to run but somehow I managed to raise it to my knee line with my left hands and that helped a little.

I'm not even halfway close to the car but I can hear him giggling, obviously at my disorganized state as I run barefoot toward the black SUV parked at the entrance, ready to move.

"Ouch!" Duke exclaims as I pull off a strand of his beard immediately I get into the car. Hahaha the earlier you get used to me taking at least 30 minutes to dress after shower, the better for you! I mean other ladies take as long as hours and you know that, don't you? I asked, struggling to get my heels on.

(Duke's )

Oh c'mon babe! "You know we're meeting with the new client today and we're yet to have their mail sorted out ". I say as I help my adorable girlfriend put on her shoes! I laid a kiss on her glossy lip and zoomed off to the office.

We get to the office in fifteen minutes and I head straight to the PR head office to prepare for the meeting.

"And it's a wrap, I'm looking forward to expanding the business' space via your services," I say as I shake hands with my new client. "Sure" he replies in return and takes his leave.

I immediately grab my cell phone as I place a call to Chloe. After two successful dials, she doesn't pick up. I figured she'd be busy sorting the documents I gave her earlier, but then it's lunchtime, I say to myself as I leave for her office. She returns my call even before I get there and I pick up immediately.

(Chloe's POV)

How went the meeting, I asked as I shuffled through the stacked papers lying on my desk.

"Let's discuss that over lunch" he replies and I can sense the tiredness in his voice.

"Oops! It's past 1 pm already and I didn't even notice, "I teased him".

At the eatery, we already have our order placed as we sit waiting to be served. So, how did it go? I ask again, sipping the cold juice we had for starters. "Very fine, it was a hard nut to crack but he finally agreed on the monthly installmental payments" That calls for celebration then, my lips curve into a beautiful smile as I can't help but be happy at how far I and Duke have come in this business together. I'm paying for this week's meal, I say and we both laugh out loudly.

Who would ever imagine that a business owned by a 28-year-old Duke and managed by 26-year-old me could go this far in the space of one year? "I thought to myself"

The waiter moves toward us with our meals in his hand, "thank you" we both let out as we couldn't wait any longer to eat.

Back home, I had just taken my shower and Duke was taking his when my phone rang. It was my junior sister, Shaley. Hello sis, her voice echoed; I've finally been accepted into the fashion school, Joy written all over her tone. Oh wow! I'm so happy for you dear, you should start making arrangements to get enrolled in due time, I reply.

"I can stay at your place until I get a space of mine right"? She asks

"Sure you can, I'll just ask the owner of the house and I'm certain he'll have no problem with that, " I assured her and ended the call.

(Duke's pov)

Shoving my white towel under my arm, down to my hair, I hear Chloe on a call. "Who was that, babe?" I asked

Oh yeah, it's Shaley, my sister whom I told you was applying for an advanced degree at Myra's fashion home, she's finally been offered; "Chloe responds displaying her perfectly sitting dentition.

That's great to know, I say.

"It's fine if she stays with us for now right? Chloe interrupts.

(Hesitantly)Yeah babe, sure!

The door clicks and I'm off to the gym, bye babe!

"I might be asleep at the time you're back, do well to shut the door behind you" she replies and retires to bed.

(Chloe's pov)

"Beep beep beep", my phone rings out loudly and I'm forced to wake up early despite today being a work-free day. I stretch to reach my phone wondering who would be calling at this early hour.

"Good morning, sister", the voice on the other end says.

"Good morning" I reply, unsure of how or when I answered my phone.

"Hey Chloe, I'd need your house address real quick; I decided to leave today because the enrollment has commenced and we're more than halfway into the journey already", she says in return.

Okay okay, expect the text now I replied, as I battled with my sleepy eyes to see the alphabet on my keyboard. I hung up the call and immediately sent my address to her.

"Babe, babe!" I pat Duke on his shoulder to wake him up from sleep.

"Shaley is on her way already, we should prepare for her arrival"

He nods his head, murmurs something I barely understand, and continues to sleep. Forcing myself out of bed, I quickly rushed to the bathroom, had a warm bath, and headed for the mall in the most comfy dress I could get my hands across.

At the mall, it was as though the whole neighborhood came shopping today. I had my shopping trolley filled with almost all I needed and headed for the counter to pay the bills. I was even more shocked as I got there because the queue was terrible with only one person attending to us. It was finally my turn and I made my payment instantly and headed for the mall opposite to get the other stuff I couldn't get at the first mall.

About crossing the road, my phone rings and I try to reach for my purse which I had slid into one of the shopping bags; I get hold of it in seconds and it was my sister. Hello! I say and dash onto the highway andddd......

BOOM!

(sirens wailing)
