Chapter 1 THE COLLAPSE

JAKE NELSEEN, a small-town boy from Otukpo, Benue State, Nigeria, had always dreamed of making it big. Growing up, he sang in the church choir, played guitar in a local band, and wrote songs in his bedroom. Music was his escape, his passion.

After high school, JAKE NELSEEN moved to Lagos, Nigeria's entertainment capital, chasing his dream. He played gigs on Victoria Island, sang at open mic nights in Ikeja, and hustled to make a name for himself in the competitive music industry. Years of hard work paid off when he was discovered by a record label. His debut album shot to the top of the charts, and JAKE NELSEEN became an overnight sensation.

Fast forward to the present, JAKE NELSEEN stood backstage, his heart racing like a drumline. He clutched his guitar, his fingers trembling slightly. The crowd roared, chanting his name. He took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and let the music consume him.

As he stepped into the spotlight, the world around him melted away. He lost himself in the rhythm, the words flowing from his soul like a river. But in the midst of the performance, something shifted. The lights blurred, the sounds distorted, and JAKE's vision began to fade.

He stumbled, his guitar slipping from his grasp. The world went dark.

Pandemonium erupted as JAKE collapsed on stage. His bandmates rushed to his side, shock and fear etched on their faces. The crowd gasped in horror, screams and cries filling the air.

Backstage, JAKE's family and friends were in a state of panic. His sister, SARAH, was frantic with worry, tears streaming down her face. His manager, MAX, was already on his phone, calling for an ambulance.

As paramedics rushed JAKE to the hospital, the news spread like wildfire. Fans gathered outside the hospital, praying for his recovery. Social media was flooded with get-well messages and worried comments.

Inside the hospital, JAKE's loved ones waited anxiously for news. The doctors' faces were grim, their words hushed and serious. JAKE's condition was critical, his fate hanging in the balance.

As the hours ticked by, the world held its breath, hoping for a miracle. JAKE's music had touched so many lives, and now, his life hung in the balance.

My world revolved around Jax Harding, my older brother's captivating rockstar friend. From sixteen, I adored him; at eighteen, I clung to his casual promise: "When you're 22, maybe I'll settle down." That offhand comment became my life's beacon, guiding every choice, meticulously planning my twenty-second birthday as our destiny. But on that pivotal day in a Lower East Side bar, clutching my gift, my dream exploded. I overheard Jax' s cold voice: "Can't believe Savvy's showing up. She' s still hung up on that stupid thing I said." Then the crushing plot: "We' re gonna tell Savvy I' m engaged to Chloe, maybe even hint she' s pregnant. That should scare her off." My gift, my future, slipped from my numb fingers. I fled into the cold New York rain, devastated by betrayal. Later, Jax introduced Chloe as his "fiancée" while his bandmates mocked my "adorable crush"-he did nothing. As an art installation fell, he saved Chloe, abandoning me to severe injury. In the hospital, he came for "damage control," then shockingly shoved me into a fountain, leaving me to bleed, calling me a "jealous psycho." How could the man I loved, who once saved me, become this cruel and publicly humiliate me? Why was my devotion seen as an annoyance to be brutally extinguished with lies and assault? Was I just a problem, my loyalty met with hatred? I would not be his victim. Injured and betrayed, I made an unshakeable vow: I was done. I blocked his number and everyone connected to him, severing ties. This was not an escape; this was my rebirth. Florence awaited, a new life on my terms, unburdened by broken promises.
