Chapter 1 Dad got me a phone

I have always dreamt of Minnicon high school. I am Cecilia William, but people call me Ceci. I am a nerd and people think I am shy, but when you get to know me, you will find out that I am the craziest girl ever.

The trip from Port-Harcourt was a very tiring one. We finally reached Lagos, finally.

"Phew" I sighed in relief, I can't believe I'm in this wonderful city. My friends who have been here before told me different exciting stories and I have really been eager to come here, finally I am here.

My parents took me to the principal's office for proper registration. I was really happy. Now I am a bonafide student of this great institution. I was taken by my parents into the main building, It was so huge and beautiful. I can't believe I am now a student of this school. I am really proud of myself and I am sure mom and Dad are because shot me one of her great smiles and mouthed "I am happy for you my baby girl". I was already smiling, grinning like a small child when Dad ushered us into a big office, When we entered, the inside was well decorated and everything in the room smelt money, I couldn't believe it, my brain had really got me here, I smiled to myself.

"Cecilia, meet Mrs Bridget, she is your house mistress". My dad said waking me from my thoughts.

"Good morning ma'am". I quickly greeted her.

"Wow, Cecilia I have really been looking forward to meet the beautiful young girl who won the scholarship. I am really proud of you". She smiled and gave me a hug.

"Nice meeting you too ma'am". I said. She took me and my mom to the girls, while dad waited for us. I was taken to a room with a poster on which says: Room 7. I echoed it in my head "Room seven". Wow nice place to be.

I was taken inside with my mom, there was no one in the room. Mrs Bridget showed me my bed, everyone had their own bed and it was amazing. My mom put my things in my corner and we both went back to meet Dad. Mrs Bridget went to her office due to an emergency call and we were left alone. Dad said they had to go, so I excited them to were dad parked the car.

"Cecilia, I want you to be a very good girl". Dad has started again with his lectures, I couldn't help but listen.

"You have to study hard to come out as the best, I am very proud of you for winning this scholarship, and I want you to work harder to make mummy and daddy proud. I wish you the best ". He concluded.

"Thank you sir". I said. "I wouldn't disappoint you".

My mom held my hand and drew me close to herself, I was her baby girl, I am really proud of you. You are my star and I want you to shine bright to the world". She gave me a peck on the cheek and withdrew. We stood there in silence for some minutes, finally my dad went inside the car and brought something out, I didn't have any idea what was in it. He gave it to me.

"Cecilia this is a gift for making me and your mom the happiest parents, here have it". I took it from his hands and quickly unwrapped it, what could be inside, I had no idea. I finally opened it.

"A phone!". I screamed in excitement, "dad you got me a phone. I can't believe this". Dad got me a phone, I never imagined this, not even in my wildest dreams.

"It was actually your mom's idea". Dad confessed. I looked at mom.

"Really, mom you brought this up?". I hugged her so tight, I also hugged dad.

Thank you so much, I really appreciate, I can't even express my happiness". I said and hugged them again, this is definitely one of my happiest days, I can't just believe it, dad got me a phone. I really think I made him proud. This is amazing, I laughed.

My world revolved around Jax Harding, my older brother's captivating rockstar friend. From sixteen, I adored him; at eighteen, I clung to his casual promise: "When you're 22, maybe I'll settle down." That offhand comment became my life's beacon, guiding every choice, meticulously planning my twenty-second birthday as our destiny. But on that pivotal day in a Lower East Side bar, clutching my gift, my dream exploded. I overheard Jax' s cold voice: "Can't believe Savvy's showing up. She' s still hung up on that stupid thing I said." Then the crushing plot: "We' re gonna tell Savvy I' m engaged to Chloe, maybe even hint she' s pregnant. That should scare her off." My gift, my future, slipped from my numb fingers. I fled into the cold New York rain, devastated by betrayal. Later, Jax introduced Chloe as his "fiancée" while his bandmates mocked my "adorable crush"-he did nothing. As an art installation fell, he saved Chloe, abandoning me to severe injury. In the hospital, he came for "damage control," then shockingly shoved me into a fountain, leaving me to bleed, calling me a "jealous psycho." How could the man I loved, who once saved me, become this cruel and publicly humiliate me? Why was my devotion seen as an annoyance to be brutally extinguished with lies and assault? Was I just a problem, my loyalty met with hatred? I would not be his victim. Injured and betrayed, I made an unshakeable vow: I was done. I blocked his number and everyone connected to him, severing ties. This was not an escape; this was my rebirth. Florence awaited, a new life on my terms, unburdened by broken promises.
