How would anyone believe that in this twenty first century, people still arrange marriages for their children. That is exactly what what the Mr. and Mrs. Williams did. This one decision did and undid a lot of things.
Chapter 1 LEAVING THE VILLAGE
"Maame!", Awo screamed. "Yes Ma. I am coming" Maame replied rushing outside.
She finds her mother outside with two guests. A man and a woman. "Maame this is your auntie Agnes I've been talking about", Awo said. "Good morning ", Maame simply said. The couple smiled. "Awo, your daughter is very beautiful", the woman complimented. "Ah thank you Agnes", Awo said. After talking for awhile, it was time to go. The truth of it was that, it was Maame they were coming for. Maame's mother only told her of the couple wanting a maid and hence, was their reason for coming. What she didn't know was that her mother had sold her. She was now engaged to the couple's son. That is why they were coming for her to the city.
The journey to the city was quite stressful for Maame who has never travelled before. She felt awkward sitting in luxurious car of the couple but she tried her best not to show it. Even though she missed her mom, there was little she could do. After all she was going to make money. Growing up, she never knew her father and her mother won't talk about him. The bond between the mother and daughter was quite strong since they only knew each other. She didn't even know when she dozed off until Agnes called her announcing they have reached.
