This is a story of a woman doesn't have the physical features of a man but she behaves and act like a man. That is she does things men do and even better than the men. She is a widow and a mother of one. She's named Etiendem which means God's power in her mother tongue
Chapter 1 The woman man
In the morning by 6 o'clock Etiendem was in the kitchen teaching her child how to cook their traditional dish called " abeh nchi" this was a combination of pounded cocoyams which was used as fudu and sliced fried ponki leaf
But her daughter Ndem didn't know how to make the leaves so she shouted at her that " ndong" which means lazy but on second thoughts she never actually blamed her cause it was all her fault for not teaching her how to do the leaves . Whole cooking? The aroma of the dish reached their neighbor nkeng who was a lazi woman abd had not eaten since the day before, Nken quickly sent her daughter nkezeh to beg Etiendem for some
When she came Etiendem was very angry and said as "always" and told Nkezeh that she should bring her pestle that her mom took from her weeks ago. Nkezeh brought the food she said
"mama Etiendem said I should Bring her pistle and when she wanted to give me the foo6 she said as always " this got Nken angry and she took the food and throwed it away their dog started eating she said " nonsense she think we are beggers? Stupid woman I will show her something in this village " Etiendem finish cooking and sent her daughter to go give food to her so Nkengim, Ndem took the food at Nkengim's compound she slipped and throw the food down breaking the dish which the food was in which was an old polished dish that Etiendem used for her husband so she cherished alot. While at home Etiendem felt uncomfortable as something has happened until a village woman came and called for her that her child just fell down Etiendem quickly rushed to the scene and saw her child lying down people then interpreted the fall as badluck and witches are after Etiendem's family . Etiendem took her child home while reaching home the "nchi " she took her time to cook got burned waiting all her efforts. Etiendem had to purish cocoyams and some plantains for them to each that evening after cooking she called Ndem that " mother " come and eat Ndem was suprise cause she thought her mum will shout at her and bear her but she didn't.
