Chapter 1 DIVORCE

GWEN'S POV "I'm pregnant?" I muttered shocked. I was riveted to the spot by the three words that appeared on my ultrasound report. It only happened once! How did I get pregnant? My hands clenched around the report as i dazedly stared at the doctor. "congratulations Mrs. Winthrop, you're three weeks gone. Your baby is in good health" I gulped down uneasy. I didn't know how to react. Should I be happy or sad. "Remember to come in for regular appointments. Where is the father? Call him in. I have some instructions for him." The doctor's words snapped me out of my thoughts.

I bite on my lower lip harder. "My husband's not with me today," i replied with an awkward smile. "Honestly, even if he's busy, he should still be with his family," the doctor exclaimed. I couldn't help but gulped down again. "I understand your point doctor and thanks for your concern. I should be on my way now" Suppressing the frustration that was rooted in my heart, I stuffed the ultrasound report into my bag as I made my way out of the hospital. I stroked my abdomen. There is now a tiny life growing in there. A child that belongs to Arthur and me... How will my husband, Mr Arthur Winthrop takes the news. Will he perhaps decide to make our marriage work just cause of this baby? What should I do now? It only happened once. My husband had mistaken me for his lover and had a night with me. My marriage with Arthur came about due to a twist of fate, but love was never in the equation. Arthur already had a woman in his heart, his only childhood crush so my existence was redundant. Perhaps, it could even be considered an obstacle. Three years ago, Arthur's grandfather was on his sick bed and his only dying wish was for Arthur to marry me. I had met with his grandfather by accident. I have subconsciously helped the old man without knowing his status. Stunned, the old man picked me from the street and brought me to the Winthrop family. On his dying bed, he wishes for nothing but for Arthur to make me his wife and for his grandfather's sake, Arthur reluctantly did so. But getting pregnant was not part of it. I knew Arthur was gonna divorce me once his childhood lover comes from the state. I pondered on how his mother and sister are gonna take the news. They never liked me nor wanted me for their son. Since Arthur's grandfather died, they all treated me like trash and made me do lots of work in the villa. I was no different than the maids and my husband Arthur never did anything when his family humiliates and bully me. It was drizzling when i finally stepped out of the hospital. My phone buzzed. I pulled it out; it was a message from my husband, Arthur Winthrop . 'It's our wedding anniversary Gwen. Set the table for dinner. I'm coming to the Villa tonight. I have something important to discuss with you!" My mouth went agape. I never realized today was our wedding anniversary. Today marks my three years marriage with Arthur. How come Arthur remembered? I thought he never cared about this marriage?. A part of me was very happy. For the first time since we got married, Arthur finally showed concern for something and that's our anniversary. I couldn't be more glad. IN THE EVENING AT THE WINTHROP MANSION I was more than happy as I set the table. I can't still believe that Arthur remembered our marriage anniversary. It was going to be the first time in years since we had celebrated the day of our marriage. Maybe during the dinner, I can reveal to him that am pregnant. When i was done setting the dinner, I sat down awaiting the return of my husband. However, an hour soon turned into two hours, and two hours into three. And after trying to reach him several times, i was starting to feel dejected. Once the clock struck twelve, i sighed and buried my face into the center of my palm. " so this was it. He made me prepare all this dishes just for him to ditch me?"Tears pricked at my eyes as i whispered to myself. This wasn't the first time he was doing this to me. How foolish of me to keep on believing him. This man has done nothing but to caused me pains and for a while, I wondered if all I had endured over the past three years was really worth it. How much more would i have to endure before it all ended? "I hate you for doing this to me Arthur!" I cursed. The sound of the door clicking open drew me out of my world of self-pity as Arthur walked in. 'He's back!' Just seeing him for a glance was enough to eliminate all my previous hesitation and sadness like it all never existed. "Welcome home." I greeted as i rose from my seat, trying my best to hide the truth that i had cried for him before. He hated women that cry and I was aware of that tiny fact. Arthur's good looks represented the best in a man. He had an exceptional physique that was comparable to international models, as well as a flawless face with delicate features. He was my dream man. "It's late. I'll prepare the bath for you. Wash up and let's eat." I said. I was about leaving when I heard his hoarse voice. "Wait. I have something to say to you." I paused and turned around to face him. My heart kept beating. I have a bad feeling about this. "I want a divorce!"
