Chapter 1 I

I moved the strands of hair on my face before standing up with a bang. I opened the door and Kristoff appeared with a sweet smile.

"Hey Kristoff, stop there! Where are you going? You're only 10 years old! Study there! You don't even know PEMDAS!" I yelled at Kristoff in annoyance.

"Oops, I just woke you up. I'm asking for the bag because I'm going to school," my brother said cutely.

I sighed and took my wallet. I took forty pesos and handed it to Kristoff. My restless brother is still snorting.

"Only forty? Add ten pesos!" he whined.

"Why, you just want to treat your crush Venice!" I teased Kristoff.

"Tse, you're ugly! You're so stingy that's why you still don't have a boyfriend!" Kristoff shouted and ran away from me.

That kid really has no shame. Kristoff Yoseff Johannes is my brother and he is only ten years old but has so many girls already! I don't know about my brother, but he's a chickboy who hasn't even been circumcised yet.

I went down to the kitchen to have breakfast. I saw dad leaving to take Kristoff to school. The fool even flayed me before riding on dad's tricycle.

"What's up Adahlia? It's already noon, you child! You really don't take care of the morning! Why didn't you even cook breakfast, if I didn't wake up early we wouldn't have any food!" mother said.

"Mom, you don't do anything during the day. If you're not watching movies, you're there with Aling Karen and playing Tongits Go. I'm so tired from work," I complained.

"Well, you're answering bacl now! I can make some money at Tongits Go! Eat that and pay our bill! I'm stressed out by you siblings!" mother shouted and sat across from me. She massaged her temples.

In our family, all of us are restless except for dad. We are at home but always shouting. Especially mom, oh they always complain about the witch Bruhilda! When they lose in Tongits, they curse die bitch motherfucker.

"Where are you stressed?" I asked and took a bite of a hotdog.

"Your brother Kristoff. I don't know about that boy! He said my hair was too rough like sandpaper! Then he criticized our electricity for being so expensive! They say that the electricity supplier has been fooling us for a long time. That's right, and the teacher also reported to me that he has a girlfriend already. What do you kids have!" mother complained and left the house. She pretended to walk out with her bffs.

I just shook my head and ate. It's still an hour early before I go to work. Kristoff wakes me up early because he says I won't buy anything for him if I don't work. He said that if I didn't work, he wouldn't have anything to feed her future wife and wouldn't be able to graduate. What a child, he's only ten years old!

I finished eating so I went upstairs. I got a towel and undergarments before going downstairs and showering in the bathroom. After I showered, I went up to my room again to put on my uniform.

I am a bank teller at BDA, Banco de Aura, and I work Monday to Saturday. It's especially tiring when there are annoying customers asking for my name. They say I look like Devon Aoki, but the brunette version.

After I took care of everything, I left the house and locked it. I walked out of our corner. I saw my father at the tricycle parking lot so I asked if I could join along. I have a passenger with me because it's a waste of time. I'll just go along with it instead of waiting.

Father is a tricycle driver while mother is a former waitress in Japan. Their dedication helped me graduate my Accountancy course so I am proud of my parents even though our lives are difficult. Of course, I am also proud of myself because even though life was difficult and full of trials, I reached my dream and finished. I also have a decent job.

I was just stupid while riding the tricycle. I saw a couple on the steps of Mercury Drug eating fried rice and kwek-kwek. I want that kind of love too. When can I have the man of my dreams?

"Lucien, let's get a divorce," I said in a peremptory tone that was long overdue, the most decisive farewell to this absurd marriage. We had been married for exactly three years-three years that, for me, were filled with nothing but endless loneliness and torment. For three years, the husband who should have stood by my side through every storm, Lucien Sullivan, had completely disappeared from my life as if he had never existed. He vanished without a trace, leaving me alone to endure this empty, desolate marriage. Today, I finally received his message: "I'm back. Come pick me up at the airport." When I read his words, my heart leapt with joy, and I raced to the airport, thinking that he finally understood my love and was coming back to me. But his cruelty was far worse than I could have ever imagined-he was accompanied by a pregnant woman, and that woman was Carla, my closest and most trusted friend. In that moment, all of my previous excitement, all my hope, and all of our shared laughter and tears turned into the sharpest of daggers, stabbing into my heart and leaving me gasping for air. Now, all I want is to escape from this place that has left me so broken-to lick my wounds in solitude. Even if these wounds will remain with me for the rest of my life, I refuse to have anything to do with him ever again. He should know that it was his own hand that trampled our love underfoot, that his coldness and betrayal created this irreparable situation. But when he heard those words, he desperately clung to this broken, crumbling marriage, unwilling to let it end-almost as though doing so could rewind time and return everything to how it used to be. "Aurora, come back. I regret everything!" Regret? Those simple words stirred no emotion in me-only endless sadness and fury. My heart let out a frantic, desperate scream: It's too late for any of this!
