Keeping The Promise of Love After Rebirth

Xia Weiwei stood at the edge of the cliff with no way to save herself. Xia Xinya, Xia Weiwei's step-sister, and Shen Hao, Xia Weiwei's male best friend, had chased her for almost an hour from the cabin in the mountains to the cliff. She had finally seen their true colors and realized that all the misery she had gone through over the years was caused by them. However, it was too late. She had been so stupid. For years she did everything Xia Xinya told her because she trusted her completely and thought that everything she did was for her own good.

Even when Xinya told Weiwei that her husband did not love her and he had only married her because he was forced by his grandfather, she believed her. Weiwei could still remember that day as Xinya stood behind her while she combed her hair at the dressing table in her bedroom. The conversation had started like many others, Xinya had asked,

"Weiwei, do you know why Mo Shian married you?"

Weiwei had replied proudly, "It's because he loves me, of course."

"Weiwei, you are so naïve, Mo Shian does not love you at all. He only married you because his grandfather forced him to."

"Since our grandpa and Mo Cheng, Mo Shian's Grandfather, were good friends and they served together in the army, they thought it would be good if they united the two families by marriage. So, you were chosen to marry Mo Shian," Xia Xinya had explained.

Xia Weiwei felt like a bucket of cold water had been poured over her head. She could not believe that the man who treated her like a queen, bought her expensive gifts, and was so faithful to her was actually forced to marry her.

"How sure are you about what you just said? Mo Shian treats me so well, how could he have been forced to marry me?" Weiwei asked with tears glistening at the corners of her eyes.

"Weiwei, when have I ever lied to you? Of course, he treats you well because he is scared that his grandfather will get angry and take his CEO position from him."

"In fact, marrying you was one of the conditions given by grandpa Mo Cheng to Mo Shian if he wanted to keep his position as the CEO of Mo Corporation. For him, you are the best bargaining chip to help him keep his position, so he has to pretend to treat you well." Xinya had convinced Weiwei.

And that was the day everything changed. Weiwei started treating Mo Shian coldly, not knowing that she had played into Xinya's trap. Xinya knew Mo Shian was a cold person who never liked to explain himself or ask questions. She knew that even if Weiwei confronted Mo Shian with the 'truth' she had told her, he would not explain and instead, he would treat her even better to prove that he loved her and had not been forced to marry her.

This worked in Xinya's favor as she kept telling Weiwei that Mo Shian was treating her better because he felt guilty after being confronted with the 'truth'. What Weiwei did not know was that Xinya wanted Mo Shian for herself and since she started treating him coldly, Xinya started to approach him in the name of helping them patch things up, but instead, she was feeding him lies about how Weiwei started treating him badly because she had a lover and was going to divorce him and elope with the lover.

With Mo Shian and Weiwei not communicating well in their marriage, things went downhill.

Fast.

Mo Shian thought that giving Weiwei some space would help her collect her thoughts and their happy marriage would resume. But again, Xinya took the opportunity to sow discord,

"Xinya, Mo Shian moved to the guest room last night. He won't even sleep in the same bed with me anymore." Weiwei had complained.

"I told you he didn't love you and was only pretending. If I were you, I would ask for a divorce. It's better to be alone than to be in a marriage where your husband hates you but pretends to love you. One day, he might just kill you."

What Weiwei didn't know was that the idea of Mo Shian moving to the guest room was suggested by Xinya. She had told Mo Shian that Weiwei had said that she was feeling suffocating being with him every day because she had married so young. Mo Shian felt that Xinya had a point. After all, Weiwei was only nineteen years old. So, Mo Shian moved to the guestroom to give her space, but that was when the rift widened and they never slept in the same bed again for the following five years of marriage.

Things got even worse when Weiwei asked for a divorce and Mo Shian thought she was running away with her lover. Xinya had taken photos of Weiwei and Shen hao together and gave them to Mo Shian, telling him that they were lovers. Weiwei had trusted Shen Hao as well because he was her only male friend and had helped her a lot since they were in high school. She had been bullied a lot, and Shen Hao stood up for her one day and the bullying stopped. They became the best of friends. Weiwei only saw Shen Hao as a friend or a brother, so, when Mo Shian accused her of being his lover she was shocked, but out of anger, she had said things she should never have.

"So what if he is my lover, that has nothing to do with you, you can just sign the divorce papers and I will go be with him." Weiwei had said after Mo Shian asked if she wanted a divorce so she could be with her lover, Shen Hao. Mo Shian said,

"Then you can forget about him. I am never divorcing you. You will remain my wife for as long as you live." And he had kept his promise, they had remained husband and wife even though they lived like strangers until a week ago, when he was killed while protecting her.
