He is tolerant to those he considers close to him, but later events will show that he is generally not a warm or fuzzy person to others. He is initially distrusting of his mate due to her previous actions, however, he gradually lowers his guard and allows her in.

Theme: Second chance love and revenge.

Characterization:

[Reina Alexander (Nee Scarra)]: A resilient alpha woman with trust issues due to being betrayed and killed by her family in her past life. She is sent several years back in time to fix her mistakes with her mate and get her revenge. She is fearless and cunning, her quest for vengeance having sparked a ruthless determination. She's in uncharted waters, working hard to get her mate to trust her again, not at all expecting to fall so deep in love in the process.

[Royan Alexander]: Lycan King of an empire pack and [Reina]'s mate. He doesn't reveal his status to her and he orders everyone around her to keep the knowledge on the low, only letting it slip that he's a mere higher-up. He is powerful and his positive emotions are generally a rarity as he seems permanently on edge. He is tolerant to those he considers close to him, but later events will show that he is generally not a warm or fuzzy person to others. He is initially distrusting of his mate due to her previous actions, however, he gradually lowers his guard and allows her in.

Plot:

Exposition:

[Reina] is sabotaged and killed due to her naivety and compassion. She is mysteriously sent back years before her death, serving as a second chance for her to do things differently. She decides to mend ways with her mate whom she mistreated severely in her past life as he is powerful enough to help her exact revenge quicker and more efficiently. Her decision is out of her own selfish reasons and not necessarily out of love.

Inciting Incident:

In the pursuit of revenge, [Reina] tries to win over her distrustful mate [Royan] by acting as though she is completely in love with him. As they are mates, there is a little bit of genuine affection hidden deep in both their hearts.

Rising action:

Due to [Reina]'s generally ulterior motives, her methods of winning [Royan] over are slightly dubious and cause several clashes with several people that generally see through the fact that she isn't as in love with him as she's pretending to be. [Royan] himself perceptively sees through her lies after a while, causing a new wave of distrust that leads to a big fight which ends up completely splitting them. At this point, [Reina] has exerted most of her revenge and due to him being a supportive and kind partner to her, she's already catching very real feelings. As a result, she is devastated. [Royan] who is also head over heels for her is devastated at the realization that his feelings were being toyed with.

Climax:

Due to the need of [Royan] as the Lycan king to provide a good Luna, he is forced to tell [Reina] about his status as the Lycan King and reconcile. Due to customs, [Reina] agrees and she ascends to the position of Luna. [Reina] is still very depressed about the chasm that has grown between them, but she knows how to mask it behind barbs. She grows bitter and goes back into her initial ways of frustrating him and he retaliates with his own methods. To the public, they're a very loving couple that can't seem to stay away from each other.

News of a jealous council member trying to usurp [Royan] reaches [Reina] and she tables it to [Royan] and they handle it together, reminding them of the powerful force they are together. Their previously malicious tricks lose the bitter tang and develop into harmless flirty pranks.

Their dynamic shifts from hidden feelings and wariness as they start all over again with a foundation built on genuine trust.

Denouement:

As [Reina] and [Royan] navigate through the challenges of leadership and mistrust, they confront their own hidden demons and fears. They make their way back to each other as they were fated to always do.

The story unfolds as [Reina] and [Royan] discover that true love eventually overcomes all and navigate through the throes of foundation of mistrust. This tale of romance, angst and second chances showcases the power of love and how it can overcome errors and fallacies.

Being second best is practically in my DNA. My sister got the love, the attention, the spotlight. And now, even her damn fiancé. Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now-billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn't mind. I'd crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one? Wrong. One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That's when it hit me-he didn't love me. He didn't even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn't even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup. So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster-my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise. Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol. Enter him. Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I'd met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes. It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised. But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life. And, as it turned out, the best decision I'd ever made. Because my one-night stand isn't just some random guy. He's richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with. And now, he's not letting me go.
