I SILENTLY stared at the emptiness. I could see from the veranda the lights in the neighborhood. I gasped. How I wish I could be one of them --- an ordinary person who is free to live as normal. I am KEINTH LUCAS HARRISON, from the best clan in the town of Sta. Monica. I have no friends, and I used to be alone since then. But I'd rather be like this, than let other people know my secret, or should I say .. My family's SECRET.

'Forbidden Love Chapter 1 1

CHAPTER 1

Maxine s POV

I WALKED along the muddy road to the other village. That s where I attend, at Wilford University, the school of the wealthy. And I m not one of them.

I am Maxine Filmore, Nineteen years old. my Mother was a housekeeper, and she had served the Alfonzos for ten years. The couple is kind. In fact, they are the ones who send me to school, and in return I help Mom during the holidays.

I looked at the watch on my arm. It s almost Eight O Clock. I walked even faster, I came at nine o'clock and I couldn't get sick.

Annoyingly, not even a tricycle passed by when I was in a hurry, let alone the looming rain.

I frowned as a black car pulled up from behind me. My uniform was almost covered in mud. It was Miss Beatriz's car, the only one of the Alfonzo couple. As kind as the couple is, Miss Beatriz is the opposite. it is an outlet for misery and pride.

I IMMEDIATELY went to the rest room when I arrived at the University. I carefully observed my own reflection in the mirror. I'm just going in but I look like I'm going home. I was shaken. I am nothing compared to the students who attend here. but if it's just the look of the base, somehow I'm going to throw something out as well. They said it was as if I had foreign blood. I look Korean. Itchoz! Lol, that s real talk.

I was about to leave the rest room when I was hit by two women who were just entering, I let go of the books I was carrying. I immediately bent down to pick them up.

"Sorry ..." a woman said, obviously not sincere when she said that. "Because I didn't see you, eh ..."

"Served right." said another woman. It even laughed.

I chose not to say anything and just keep doing it. I'm used to it. This is how my life has been since I entered this University. If I was the only one to follow I would want to move to another school. I don't like it, the students who come here are too arrogant and arrogant.

The case is, the Alfonzos want me to study here, because there is no problem with expenses as long as I just improve my studies. bSHRM is my course, and fortunately, I am graduating this year. By the mercy of God, I can lift Mom out of poverty as well.

I CHOOSE to sit in the back, it has been my mannerism since first year. Miss Gillany, our class adviser, arrived shortly after. it is beautiful and the hair is over the shoulder.

"Good Morning Ma am!" my classmates greeted me at the same time.

"Good Morning!"

It wasn't long before they started discussing.

THE first class was over and I didn t understand what Ma am was saying. I don t know, but I m not in the mood right now.

My next subject is at two o'clock in the afternoon so I decided to go home first. I don't have a canteen yet. Also, I'd rather save Mom's pocket money than waste it.

I walked to the boat, it was just a walking distance from the school. soon it started to mist, fortunately I got to the waiting area right away before the downpour intensified so I took shelter. I grabbed a handkerchief from the bag to wipe a few drops of rain off my face without accidentally blowing it away. I took a quick step to reach it but at the same time that step was the pounding of a motorcycle. I immediately avoided but in shock I lost my balance.

"Ahhhh!" I screamed at the same time as I fell. I also saw the motorcycle fall and spin.

I forced myself to stand up to help, I knew the motorcyclist was hurt more.

"Brother, are you okay ?!" I asked in a loud voice as I slowly approached it. I can't see his face because he's wearing a helmet.

I helped the man get up when he came in front of it.

"Brother, are you okay?" I repeat.

He took off his helmet and raised an eyebrow at me. I was momentarily stunned and examined its face; moderately thick eyebrows that fit the tip of the nose, reddish lips, and even more so the relatively thin gray eyes. How did such a handsome creature come to be here in Sta. Monica? there are many handsome people in Wilford .. but the man in front of me doesn't seem ordinary.

"Are you stupid ?!" rebuked the man who returned to my court. It's anger. "You're just crossing without looking to see if there is a car or not ?!"

Like a moon my admiration for the future disappeared immediately. My ears tingled as the wind blew me away. Do you call me a fool ?!

"W-what are you?" can't believe my question yet.

"Hey Mister, I'm hurt too, ah! And then look at my uniform, it's dirt! who can drive so fast you think he's on the road! "

The man's eyebrows arched, p-um-laster on his lips the seemingly irritated smile and he waved at me.

"And now it s my fault. Hey Miss, do you know how much 'my motor is? even if you work all your life, you won t be able to pay for that! "

I looked at the motor. I was secretly devastated when I saw that the left side-mirror was broken. I don't know what the brand of motor is but based on the class it looks expensive.

I think the look caught my eye when the man stood up. It turned the motor. It's so tall. Maybe it s a basketball player. Its cool.

Later, the man started the motor and cut it. I would have protested but it quickly disappeared from my sight. annoyed I stomped on the road and wept as the gaze followed the path taken by the man.

Seriously, it s very antipathetic. The bad habit. Not even sorry! I almost crashed, hmmmp! Maybe Wilford is also studying that.

Third person Point of view...

Maxine's nose seemed to be smoking with annoyance when she got home to the mansion. His mother was surprised to see him, although she was not only curious, she also did not want to tell the story.

After taking a bath, Maxine dried her hair. he faces the small mirror that sits on the table next to the double deck.

"Son, what time do you come in?" asked his Mother Perlita. It has a paper holder.

"This afternoon,' Mom. Why? "

"You are the grocery store first. I m going to clean the master s bedroom, eh. "

"All right."

Maxine stood up and headed for the cabinet. She put a little powder on her face, combed her hair over her shoulders and took the paper to Mother afterwards.

Maxine went to the vegetable s section FIRST. He looked again at the list Mother had made before starting to choose. he was about to pick up a whole cabbage in the hand of whom he had touched. She didn't mind turning to the owner.

"You?!" Maxine exclaimed when she met the man. Is it for everyone?!

Lucas s POV

I DECIDED to go around for a while first. I didn't really buy anything, I just went with my sister to the grocery store.

My feet carried me to the vegetable s section. I smiled upon seeing those round green leafy vegetables, my favorite. I took a cabbage but was already touched by who my hand was. It will probably take as well. I shifted a gaze .. and so did the one next to me. I was amused by its reaction. She seemed shocked.

"You?!"

Small world, isn t it ?! She s the one I almost ran over earlier.

"Are you following me?" I asked her instead, looking at her face. She is beautiful, even without make-up.

I think the woman's eyebrows met even more than I said.

"The thickness .." she mumbled.

"Saying something?"

She looked at me fiercely and got a whole of cabbage aferwards.

"Hays Maxine, is there anyone? Nothing. But there is rude arrogance. "

So Maxine is her name ..

"I'm Lucas ..."

She turned to me violently.

"Excuse me?" She said in a steady tone.

"You were stating your name, so I guessed you wanna know mine." I uttered with amusement as I crossed my arms. i don t know why I am talking to her but it just that there is something in her that caught my attention. "Girls strategy, right? "

The girl breathed and looked at me with annoyance.

"Hey you, stay away from me before I hit this cabbage in your face!" its nose almost smoked with annoyance.

I can t help but to smile.

"Do you know that old style?" I'm still teasing her. "Suppose you complain. Women always do that to get men s attention. "

She bit her lower lips as if trying to calm herself. The evil she thinks.

"Find someone to talk to! I can't type! "

She is about to leave when I promptly held her cart that made her shot me another look.

"What's your problem?!"

"Nothing. Maybe you have? "

"Crazy!"

I couldn t help but twitch my lips. is she too weird to talk or do people like her really just talk like this?

I came even closer to her. I'm slightly bent, is it a bit small or am I just tall? Tsk, whatever!

"Maybe you want us to just talk about my motorbike?" i asked her in a lower voice. "Do you even know how expensive it is --- its Harley Davidson."

To my comfort it was slightly stunned and pale. The paper even surpassed the color escape on its face.

"Lucas ..."

I looked at that voice.

Big sister.

"Lourine ..."

It's only been a year for me so that's what I call it.

Lourine hissed, stepping towards me. "I thought you left me already. And who s that girl? " it looked at the one next to me. "Girlfriend?"

"Hell, no!" I refused. I helped her push her cart. "Let s go. what comes out of your mouth. "

I gave the woman a glance first before continuing to walk. I was shaken to look at my hand. I felt like I was electrified when she touched my hand earlier.

"She s pretty, isn t she?"

"Who?" dead malicious I asked. I don t know why sister asked that.

"The woman ..."

"I have not noticed."

"She's beautiful. Even without lipstick on her face, she is still beautiful. "

"Fine, you said, eh .." I replied just to keep it quiet. Sister is very naughty.

THIRTY minutes before we reached the palace. Our home was on top of a hill.

"Good day Ma'am, Sir!" opening of the guard nooy opened the large gate that served as the barrier of the palace. Sister was in her car while I just followed on my motorcycle.

"I told you darling, you don t have to do that. Let the maids do that. " and Mommy. It watches sister while busy arranging the things we bought earlier.

"It s okay' Mom .. I love doing this. Relieves stress. What are you doing, baby brother? " sister turned to me.

"You didn't buy cabbage?" I asked again while looking for other items.

"No ..."

I frowned at her.

"Wait ..." She turned to me and waved at me. "You were too rush rabbit. You even pulled me 'didn t you? it s your fault baby brother, so I didn t buy your favorite. "

"You should insist me to stay ..." I said.

"Enough baby .. I'll just order maids to buy your favorite." Mommy said.

Angry that I turned my back on them. Dunno, but cabbage is just my weakness. Funny, isn t it? I think that's where I was conceived.

"Lucas ..." Mommy called and I turned around. It let out a deep sigh before speaking.

"Your Grandfather is coming .."

.. "Soon."

I couldn't speak, even sister was staring at me.

"You can't runaway from it, Son ..." Mommy continued.

"I know .." I almost whispered in response. I secretly clasped my hands. That old man is going to witness my 21st birthday, and that day is the most I don t want to come in my life.

Maxine s POV

"Sir, keep a change." I spoke to the taxi drive, We are already in front of the mansion. I put down the purchases one by one.

"Thank you, Miss." said the tricycle driver.

"Youre welcome."

I FOUND Miss Beatriz in the living room. It reads a magazine. Maybe it's out of date.

"Hey!" I heard it call.

I stopped walking and looked back.

"Why?"

"Bring me a glass of water."

"All right." I replied and went straight to the kitchen bit by bit with the purchases.

"What is that?" Miss Beatriz raised an eyebrow at the glass I was carrying.

"A glass of water, can't you see?" I asked again.

"I know!" She said, "Will you give me a drink without ice?!"

"You didn't say."

"Common sense, stupid!" She angrily said.

"I'll just change it."

"Nevermind!"SHe put down the magazine she was reading and stood up.

shake that I delivered Miss Beatriz a view as she climbed to the top. I really meant that. I'm on a budget today, eh.

I picked up the glass of water to return to the kitchen when my attention was distracted by the picture in the magazine. It's like a family picture. the two women sitting on the long couch were so beautiful. In the back stood three men. My eyes were fixed on the man in the middle in a black-suit --- the arrogant ?! very proud, even in the picture not even smiling, next to it was an old man who was probably its Grandfather. I don't know, but I felt my hair stand on end, as if there was something strange on the old man's face.

[THE MYSTERY BEHIND]

I raised an eyebrow at that caption. what does that mean? Druglords, killers?!

"Wait! Where are you taking me?" I anxiously asked. I already have an idea of where he's taking me, but my mind is still hopeful for a positive answer. It seems unlikely now as he takes large strides towards the Police Station. "Just a moment, Mister! Please don't take me there! I haven't done anything wrong to you," I plead, on the verge of tears. "You trespassed," he replies, pulling me along. I almost stumble due to the force of his grip on my wrist. "I was just hiding!" I shout, but all I can see is his broad back. Handsome? The hell, Adriana? You still have time to compliment this guy despite what he's doing to you? Blood rushes to my face as we finally enter the station. Cubicles and policemen fill every corner. People are complaining, and some are even arguing, with a police officer trying to intervene. Good heavens, Adriana. What have you gotten yourself into? "Good evening. What's the matter?" A police officer greets us and quickly approaches. I force a laugh and shake my head. "Nothing, sir! Just passing by—" "I saw her hiding inside my car. I don't know her. What charges can I file against her?" he interrupts. My lips part in horror. I look at the man beside me, briefly seeing how handsome he is. But fear and anxiety prevent me from admiring him further. "Quit it! I'm just avoiding my debtor!" "Did she steal anything, Sir?" I shift my gaze to the police officer. He looks at me for a moment. I sniff, holding back tears. "None. I don't have important things in my car. But I don't like the idea of a stranger hiding inside it while I'm out. Don't you think it's dangerous? What if she has malicious intentions?" My forehead wrinkles at his words. With one hand, I slap his arm. How pretentious! "And what harm could I do to you? Look at your huge physique! Do you think I can do anything to you? And even if you have important stuff inside your car, I don't care!" I yell in frustration. People are now looking at us, but I ignore them. Damn! I feel so frustrated and messed up right now. What does he think of me? Committing a crime? Being a thief? If only I could reveal my true life situation, I would. But I can't. I gulp as the man's dark eyes settle on me. He raises an eyebrow, as if finding my words unbelievable. "This woman seems to be telling the truth, Sir. She looks decent and doesn't seem like she'd do anything mischievous," the police officer says, looking at me. I smile at him, relieved that he sees me as a decent person. The policeman smiles back, but his gaze travels down my body. I frown at the kind of look he's giving me. "Looks can be deceiving. Send her to jail and let her stay there until tomorrow. If you won't do it, I have no choice but to file a complaint against you," he says, releasing his grip on my arm.

For two years, I was the invisible force behind tech billionaire Kieran Douglas, convinced that our "private" romance was his way of protecting us from the tabloid spotlight. I managed his mergers, warmed his bed, and waited for a future that didn't exist. The illusion shattered at 6:00 AM when a Page Six alert debuted Kieran’s "real" romance with socialite Aspen Schneider. Before I could even process the betrayal, Kieran sent me a cold, professional text: "Order flowers for Aspen. Pink peonies. Her favorite." When I tried to walk away, my own mother called me a disgrace and threatened to lock my inheritance forever unless I married a sixty-year-old businessman to save her failing estate. At a high-society gala that same night, Aspen intentionally crushed my burned hand in front of the cameras, while Kieran stood by and dismissed me as a "mediocre assistant" who had overstayed her welcome. I stood in the cold New York rain, drenched in champagne and humiliation, realizing that every sacrifice I made for Kieran was a joke. I was a ghost in a penthouse that was never mine, discarded the moment his "soulmate" returned. To the world, I was just a placeholder whose time had run out. But Kieran forgot one thing: my father’s multi-million dollar trust fund unlocks the moment I legally marry. I didn't need love; I needed a signature and a shield. I walked into a discreet law firm and signed a marriage contract with a man I believed was the city’s most notorious, scandal-ridden playboy. I thought I was marrying a degenerate "beard" to buy my freedom and secure my revenge. I didn't realize the man who signed that paper wasn't a playboy at all, but Gaston Collins—the most powerful and dangerous man on Wall Street—and he had no intention of letting our fake marriage stay fake.

I was sitting in the Presidential Suite of The Pierre, wearing a Vera Wang gown worth more than most people earn in a decade. It was supposed to be the wedding of the century, the final move to merge two of Manhattan's most powerful empires. Then my phone buzzed. It was an Instagram Story from my fiancé, Jameson. He was at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris with a caption that read: "Fuck the chains. Chasing freedom." He hadn't just gotten cold feet; he had abandoned me at the altar to run across the world. My father didn't come in to comfort me. He burst through the door roaring about a lost acquisition deal, telling me the Holland Group would strip our family for parts if the ceremony didn't happen by noon. My stepmother wailed about us becoming the laughingstock of the Upper East Side. The Holland PR director even suggested I fake a "panic attack" to make myself look weak and sympathetic to save their stock price. Then Jameson’s sleazy cousin, Pierce, walked in with a lopsided grin, offering to "step in" and marry me just to get his hands on my assets. I looked at them and realized I wasn't a daughter or a bride to anyone in that room. I was a failed asset, a bouncing check, a girl whose own father told her to go to Paris and "beg" the man who had just publicly humiliated her. The girl who wanted to be loved died in that mirror. I realized that if I was going to be sold to save a merger, I was going to sell myself to the one who actually controlled the money. I marched past my parents and walked straight into the VIP holding room. I looked the most powerful man in the room—Jameson’s cold, ruthless uncle, Fletcher Holland—dead in the eye and threw the iPad on the table. "Jameson is gone," I said, my voice as hard as stone. "Marry me instead."

I lived as the "scarred ghost" of the Stephens penthouse, a wife kept in the shadows because my facial burns offended my billionaire husband’s aesthetic. For years, I endured Kason’s coldness and my family's abuse, a submissive puppet who believed she had nowhere else to go. The end came with a blue folder tossed onto my silk sheets. Kason’s mistress was back, and he wanted me out by sunset, offering a five-million-dollar "silence fee" to go hide my face in the countryside. The betrayal cut deep when I discovered my father had already traded my divorce for a corporate bailout. My step-sister mocked my "trashy" appearance at a high-end boutique, while the sales staff treated me like a common thief. At home, my father threatened to cut off my mother's life-saving medicine unless I crawled back to Kason to beg for a better deal. I was the girl who took the blame for a fire she didn't start, the wife who worshipped a man who never looked her in the eye, and the daughter used as a human bargaining chip. I was supposed to be broken, penniless, and desperate. But the woman who stood up wasn't the weak Elease Finch anymore; she was Phoenix, a tactical predator with a $500 million secret. I signed the divorce papers without a single tear, walked past my stunned husband, and wiped the Finch family's bank accounts clean with a few taps on my phone. "Your money is dirty," I told Kason with a cold smile. "I prefer clean hands." The cage is open, the hunt has begun, and I’m starting with the people who thought a scar made me weak.
