Chapter 1 BOOK 1: THE WRONG TWIN (A HUSBAND'S BROTHER STORY)

Elena's P.O.V

Devin and I have been married for four years. In those four years, I have seen my husband rise to become one of the most successful business men in the city. In those four years, I have seen him pull away from me until he became a husk of the man I once loved and I became an adorned trophy on his shelf of achievements.

The truth was that Devin was never the man I loved. That title was reserved for his twin brother Darius. Darius was always the more adventurous one. He was the one who would climb over the fence that separated our houses and take me out in the middle of the night for a challenge as he would call them.

Unfortunately, Darius got in trouble when he was twenty and I was seventeen and I never saw him again. Devin and I grew closer and I ended saying yes when he proposed. The first time I saw Darius again was at my wedding to his brother seven years after he had left the first time. I didn't see him again after that until one fateful morning four years later when he knocked on my door.

I was shocked to see him. I never got visitors which was why I opened the door in my skimpy nightgown. I saw Darius' eyes run over my body but he pulled away and managed to give me a respectable smile.

"Is Devin home?"

He had changed over the years. Unlike his twin brother who was lean, Darius had muscles everywhere. He was big and tall and whenever he walked into a room, his presence demanded to be felt. Darius was not the kind of man that could be ignored, even if you tried.

"No, he won't be back until ten at least, he has a meeting."

Darius nodded and I could tell that he was about to leave but I was lonely and the last time I had any human interaction was almost three days ago so I made a split second decision.

"You could come in," I began and he turned to me in shock. "I just made a fresh batch of brownies and I was hoping for someone to try them."

He hesitated. I could see the screws turning in his head but at the last minute, he nodded. I felt the glee climb up my spine as I stepped aside for him to walk in.

Darius took in the house with barely concealed disdain. I didn't blame him; the house felt more like a hotel than a home. It was designed by the best interior designers in the state. There were pristine white couches with perfect walls and a crystal chandelier. It was not a home, it was a piece for a magazine.

I told Devin that when he showed me the house. It was not compatible for a family and all he said was that I had no taste and that we were going to live there until we became old and died, he had no plans to start a family. He had even gotten a vasectomy.

"Please sit," I said to Darius as I made my way into the kitchen.

Devin never ate brownies so they were my guilty pleasure and it felt great to be able to share it with someone else. I took an entire tray and brought it back to the living room. I could tell that Darius felt uncomfortable and out of place. He was an adventurer at heart, this was a vast difference from the life that he was used to.

However, he took a bite of the brownies and he made a sound deep in his throat that had me clenching my thighs together. He didn't notice it and I was glad that he didn't. The last thing I needed was my husband's twin brother to know that I had fantasized about him for the past eleven years.

I watched him carefully expecting to see a flash of disgust or a frown, something I was used to receiving from my other family members whenever I asked them to taste something I had cooked or baked but there was nothing like that from Darius. He genuinely seemed to be enjoying himself and when he had finished the first piece, he picked up another.

"Does this mean you like it?" I asked

"Of course I do," from the way he answered, you would have thought I asked him if cows were pink. "You should open your own bakery Elena, I know you always wanted that."

"The wife of a billionaire doesn't work, Darius, you know that."

"That's bullshit. Are you just going to sit here and be an extension of him?" he was getting angry already. "Look at this place, it is not you. What has he done to you?"

"Nothing I haven't already done to myself."

He scoffed and stood to his feet in anger. Darius always got angry when it came to other people. It was hard to piss him off by doing something to him. If you really wanted to get to him then you needed to do something bad to someone else, someone close to me. I thought I had lost that title a long time ago but it seemed I hadn't.

"You can't live like this. You're living like a doll or a bird in a cage."

"We're all birds in cages. Some cages are just different from others."

"No!" his rebuke was sharp. "If that is what you tell yourself to make you feel better then go right ahead but do not make the mistake of thinking that everyone lives like you do. Some of us were brave enough to break free of those cages."

I opened my mouth to speak but no words would come out because I knew he was right. I turned away from him because shame would not allow me meet his eyes. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw him run his hand through his hair in frustration and he muttered a small curse under his breath.

"I should leave, I don't know what the fuck I was thinking by coming here."

He started to walk towards the door and I panicked. He was the first living soul excluding my husband that I had seen in a while. I didn't want him to leave. I didn't want to go back to the life I had resigned myself to. For a few seconds, I wanted to pretend like I was normal.

I reached out to grab his bicep. He was so large that my palm couldn't wrap around it. "Please don't go."

He stopped and turned to me. He ran his hands through his hair and looked down at me. I could feel his eyes roaming over my body in a way that felt purely predatory and not at all familial.

"Why?" he asked. "Why shouldn't I leave?"

"I want you," I meant to add the word 'here' but it didn't- couldn't leave my lips. The way he was staring at me had my mouth drying up.

Darius pinned my back against the door and covered me with his body. My hand was still on his bicep and the heat of his skin was searing into me.

"Darius," his name was barely a whisper on my lips.

He let out a harsh groan and then he kissed me.

His mouth was warm and when his lips met mine, it felt like fireworks went off in my body. I moaned against his mouth. He kissed like a man who knew what he wanted and was not afraid to take it. His large hands pulled my body flush against his as his mouth ravaged mine.

It had been a while since someone kissed me like he did. Devin would come back from work too tired and have a quickie where he would release before I was even wet but Darius- from the way his hands moved over my body, I knew that he was a patient man.

My hands trailed up his arms to his neck and I deepened the kiss. He was so tall that I had to stand on my toes to reach him. He wasn't bending over to make it easier for me. In fact, it was like he wanted me to work for it, he wanted to make sure that it was what I wanted. Darius had never been someone to make things easy.

A car horn had us jumping apart and as I looked through the curtain, I saw Devin's car pulling into the driveway. Darius was staring at me with a foreign expression but I was frozen in place. I could not offer him any words because there weren't any words to depict what was happening.

My husband just pulled in while I was kissing his brother.

Devin opened the door and his expression changed from confused to cool as he walked into the house. He had a briefcase in his hand and his eyes ran over my body then Darius' slowly.

"I didn't know you were coming over," Devin said finally breaking the silence.

"I wanted to see you but you weren't home, I should be leaving now," Devin opened his mouth to speak but before he could get any words out, Darius had walked out the door.

Devin turned to me next. "Is everything okay?"

I nodded and hummed. "Perfect, excuse me."

I walked out of the room leaving Devin standing alone because the last thing I wanted to explain to him was why I was standing in the living room in a night gown while his brother was there.
