Chapter 1 Aurora

I drove into the parking lot of the shopping mall and turned off my car engine. I came for a little shopping therapy to take my mind off the frustration I have been through lately. I grunted as I stepped out of my car.

I moved to San Francisco for my masters in business administration about two years ago. My father didn't like the idea because his precious daughter was going to be away from him. Also, going back home means I have to find someone to settle down with and I wasn't ready for that.

My parents have been persistently pressuring for me to return but I wasn't ready to do so. I knew my father had his way of watching me here so he wasn't so bothered about my safety. I was done with my masters but I decided to stay back because I was avoiding my parents matching me up with a total stranger.

My name is Aurora Rosiello, the daughter of Marco Rosiello, the second most powerful mafia lord in the whole of Italy. My father has many legal businesses to his name, ranging from hotels, real estates, clubs, casinos and restaurants so it's actually hard to know he's a mafia boss. Only those who were in the underground trade knew each other and they made it that way to avoid people prying into their activities.

I know the underground business and I have a love hate relationship with it, just that I do not like to meddle in it. I have knowledge of almost everything because my two older brothers Enzo and Carlo taught me a lot. I also know a lot of self defense moves to protect myself incase of any danger. In this game, you have to know you must never be unguarded. I also know how to use guns and knives, you can imagine how my childhood was with this, Yea! Lots of adventures but it was fun.

My mama doesn't like me involving myself in it, but I enjoy it so she just let me be as long as I don't let people know what I can do, so I play the weak innocent girl always.

I walked into the mall and went straight to the clothing section, I started skimming through all the dresses there as I picked a couple of them I liked so I can try them on in the dressing room.

I remembered how my papa and my brothers would take me and my mama shopping. It was a way of us bonding together as a family. You can call me a spoilt princess. I literally got everything I wanted, perks of being the only girl and the last child. I loved how I was spoilt silly and how my family loved each other dearly. I smiled at the thought of it.

I should call them today when I get back home, it's been a while since I last heard from them. This is quite unusual because it's the longest I have ever gone without hearing from them. I have been busy so I wasn't so bothered, I'm sure they are also busy but I had an off feeling about their silence. I shrugged it off.

I went into the dressing room and tried everything on and they all fitted perfectly, not like I was surprised. Although I am petite, I have always had a nice hourglass body and that's why back in college a lot of females were mainly envious of me although they tried to be friends with me. Most guys wanted me to be their girl, but I was just not interested in any of them. They were just not my type.

I headed over to the cashier to make my payment and walked out into the grocery store just beside the clothing mall. I got the necessary things i needed for my kitchen restock, paid and came out. If there's one thing my mama taught me well, is how to cook.

There was a food court in the mall so I went back in to get something to eat knowing that when I get back, I would be exhausted and would not have the strength to cook up anything. got some burgers, fries and spicy chicken with a soda drink and headed out of the mall. The cool breeze hitting my skin was all I needed and I loved it. I got back into my car and went straight home.

I settled in and just as I was about to eat my food, my father called me. Excitedly, I picked the call.

"Hello daddy" I said smiling.

"Hello my Little princess, how are you doing?" My father asked.

"I'm good, how's everyone?" I asked as I took some fries and put it in my mouth.

"Everyone's fine" he said curtly and wavered.

"Dad... Are you sure everything is fine?" I asked skeptically.

"Aurora" he called.

"Yes Dad" I replied. I felt tensed. My father doesn't call me by my name unless it is important or if it meant business.

"I need to talk to you, but that can only be in person. It's very important, I need you back home next week, I would be sending the jet to pick you up, do you understand?" My father asked.

If there is one thing about my father, he is accommodating but also a no nonsense person. Well, he's a mafia lord I can't blame him. When it came to business he always spoke in this manner and I have no choice but to listen to him, so his request for my presence meant business. However I had this tingling feeling that this might not be a good one, but I just brushed it off.

"Princess, did you hear me?" He asked again.

"Yes babbo, have heard you. But can I ask why? I mean it's so sudden? Did anything happen? Where is mama? At least tell me something" I asked feeling a bit relieved he is calling me princess. When he calls my full name, it makes me feel nervous.

"Princess... you already know I won't be telling you anything till I see you in person. Now don't beat yourself over this too much, your mama and brothers are here and they are fine. Take care of yourself. I love you" he said.

He was right. He won't hint me on anything until I get back home. I sighed.

"Okay babbo... I love you too. Tell them I said hi." I said and heard him say a short okay before the line went off. I really don't know what this is about but I hope everything goes well. Oh well, so much for wishful thinking.

My world revolved around Jax Harding, my older brother's captivating rockstar friend. From sixteen, I adored him; at eighteen, I clung to his casual promise: "When you're 22, maybe I'll settle down." That offhand comment became my life's beacon, guiding every choice, meticulously planning my twenty-second birthday as our destiny. But on that pivotal day in a Lower East Side bar, clutching my gift, my dream exploded. I overheard Jax' s cold voice: "Can't believe Savvy's showing up. She' s still hung up on that stupid thing I said." Then the crushing plot: "We' re gonna tell Savvy I' m engaged to Chloe, maybe even hint she' s pregnant. That should scare her off." My gift, my future, slipped from my numb fingers. I fled into the cold New York rain, devastated by betrayal. Later, Jax introduced Chloe as his "fiancée" while his bandmates mocked my "adorable crush"-he did nothing. As an art installation fell, he saved Chloe, abandoning me to severe injury. In the hospital, he came for "damage control," then shockingly shoved me into a fountain, leaving me to bleed, calling me a "jealous psycho." How could the man I loved, who once saved me, become this cruel and publicly humiliate me? Why was my devotion seen as an annoyance to be brutally extinguished with lies and assault? Was I just a problem, my loyalty met with hatred? I would not be his victim. Injured and betrayed, I made an unshakeable vow: I was done. I blocked his number and everyone connected to him, severing ties. This was not an escape; this was my rebirth. Florence awaited, a new life on my terms, unburdened by broken promises.
