Chapter 1 One

A girl was huddled up in a cold, dark room with the windows tightly closed and no room for sunlight as tears poured down her little face but all that changed when the door was open

" Mom!"

The woman looked at the little girl in disdain before smacking her away and holding a man tight to her.

She quietly made a sign with her eyes to the girl.

The girl looked back at her mom before walking away.

The man had comfortably sat on the sofa before saying, " be fast."

His eyes were filled with viciousness and lust.

The beautiful woman smiled bashfully before sitting on him.

The little girl stayed right outside the door, her hands on her nose with her face squeezed from disgust.

Her hands had left nose as she covered her ears and screech but it wasn't enough to distract the people inside

"Ahn, ah yes..faster, harder"

She laid on the cold ground in tears while drawing some zeros and counting time in her head.

She sat back up and looked at the sky...the sun was setting. It was beautiful but cruel to her at that moment.

She held herself in a tight embrace, thoughts wandering, heart beating loudly and lips chattering.

She thought, " Why is my life like this? If I had a dad then all this wouldn't be happening...mom wouldn't be doing this"

Her thoughts were disrupted by the laughter of kids older than her.

They were in groups as the older looking one said, " Look at her! Her mom is a prostitute...she sleeps around with men. She doesn't deserve to stay here"

Another girl walked to her face and said, " Oh dear Cynthia, You are a bastard, an illegi-"

Pak!

Cynthia's mum stood right in front of her daughter with her eyes red like a monster and her hands still raised.

She pushed away the girl roughly before pointing at her

" Don't you ever refer to my daughter as a bastard! She's worth more than any of you. She's a jewel"

The girl looked at Cynthia's mum with tears in her ears as she held the side of her face. She was slapped.

She had already started shedding tears but was helped up by a fatso.

Cynthia's mum glared hatefully at the bunch of kids before carrying her little girl up and hugging her to her body

"Cecilia!"

The mother and daughter woke up from their sweet moment before Cecilia held Cynthia's hands and walked towards the man.

Cynthia turned her face away, refusing to look at him, making him smile.

He quickly handed Cecilia some stash of money before leaving.

She smiled looking at the money then said to little Cynthia

" Oh my baby girl! Don't mind what they say. Stay in the house, let me go buy some instant noodles, veggies and eggs"

Her little face lit up from happiness with her eyes shining as bright as the sun.

She nodded timidly.

Then she walked into the little apartment.

She looked around before picking the dirty laundry and starting washing the dirty plates.

She tidied up the kitchen and kept the ingredients to cook by the sink.

She happily mopped and swept then waited for her mom.

Everywhere was so sparkly that your reflection could be seen from the floor.

She smiled sweetly as she excitedly looked towards the door and her happiness was doubled when she heard the elegant voice

" Cynthia!!"

But it came again but this time louder

" Cynthiaaa!!!"

She looked towards the door with a changed face, her mom stood there with a man that looked like he could give birth to her. He had white hair on his face and head too.

He tried to smile but quickly covered it when he saw the look of disgust on Cynthia's face.

His hands were firmly placed on Cecilia's butt, he squeezed it aggressively

She gasped softly with her hands on his chest before saying to Cynthia

" You would sleep here"

Cynthia nodded quietly before resigning to her fate.

She laid on the rug in the center of the room while curled like a shrimp, her hands tightly held her stomach

The wind harshly blew the window open leading to her shivering more.

She shook.

Her eyes were wide open, she held her stomach while she stopped trying to yawn when her stomach made an awfully embarrassing sound.

She got up and walked to the room door and was about to knock when she heard it

" Oh yes! Moreee"

She shook her head before dropping her hands and walking to the kitchen.

She grabbed a glass cup as she watched the water fill it up slowly then put milk in it.

Her spoon stirred it in a circular motion creating tornados in it.

She gulped a mouthful of milk

" Eww"

" This doesn't taste like the ones mom made", she thought while retching.

She stood in the kitchen waiting for her mother quietly but there was no sound of the door being opened.

Her foot tapped impatiently against the tiles creating a light sound.

Tap!

Tap!

Tap!

Her stomach made a louder sound this time making her go red before furiously marching to her mom's door

Bang!

Bang!

Her mom's angry yelling with loud breathing was heard next

" You! What do you want??", She yelled angrily

"I'm hungry, mom", she said in a polite manner

" Don't you call me that! Go find something to do...I'm in the middle of something" she said slowly this time.

Cynthia blinked her eyes in a fast manner as the tears came rushing out.

Her head banged and she couldn't tell if it was from hunger and pain

Slowly, she went down down on her knees with her back on the cold door

Her ears tightly pressed against the door while her ears were assaulted by the sounds from inside

Everything was in a motion as she tried her best to keep her eyes open with her hands tightly latched against the door before helplessly making a sound

Bang!

" Mom, my head"

Bam!

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband’s Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn’t find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn’t even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father’s legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn’s party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara’s health and managing every detail of Caden’s empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I’d drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause—if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I’d forgotten.

I had just survived a private jet crash, my body a map of violet bruises and my lungs still burning from the smoke. I woke up in a sterile hospital room, gasping for my husband's name, only to realize I was completely alone. While I was bleeding in a ditch, my husband, Adam, was on the news smiling at a ribbon-cutting ceremony. When I tracked him down at the hospital's VIP wing, I didn't find a grieving husband. I found him tenderly cradling his ex-girlfriend, Casie, in his arms, his face lit with a protective warmth he had never shown me as he carried her into the maternity ward. The betrayal went deeper than I could have imagined. Adam admitted the affair started on our third anniversary-the night he claimed he was stuck in London for a merger. Back at the manor, his mother had already filled our planned nursery with pink boutique bags for Casie's "little princess." When I demanded a divorce, Adam didn't flinch. He sneered that I was "gutter trash" from a foster home and that I'd be begging on the streets within a week. To trap me, he froze my bank accounts, cancelled my flight, and even called the police to report me for "theft" of company property. I realized then that I wasn't his partner; I was a charity case he had plucked from obscurity to manage his life. To the Hortons, I was just a servant who happened to sleep in the master bedroom, a "resilient" woman meant to endure his abuse in silence while the whole world laughed at the joke that was my marriage. Adam thought stripping me of his money would make me crawl back to him. He was wrong. I walked into his executive suite during his biggest deal of the year and poured a mug of sludge over his original ten-million-dollar contracts. Then, right in front of his board and his mistress, I stripped off every designer thread he had ever paid for until I was standing in nothing but my own silk camisole. "You can keep the clothes, Adam. They're as hollow as you are." I grabbed my passport, turned my back on his billions, and walked out of that glass tower barefoot, bleeding, and finally free.
