Alexander and Adofinna's paths crossed during their early years. As they grew up, their liking for each other blossomed into love. The couple was excitedly planning to get married, but on their wedding day, an unexpected event unfolded. Dive into the story to discover what took place.

Chapter 1 The beginning

A man could be seen with a pregnant woman. He hung his hand on her right shoulder while a young girl hung her arms on her left shoulder supporting her.

The lady was obviously in labour and was groaning in pain. Her tummy was very big.

"Marvis, it hurts. It hurts so much" she cried.

"Please honey be patient. We would soon get you to the hospital and everything would be over" Marvis cooed.

" Argh " she cried out.

" I can't take this anymore " she lamented.

"Aunt, everything would be fine soon" the little girl beside her said.

They headed towards the road and flagged a cab. She was immediately ushered in to the hospital.

At the hospital, Melissa, a helpful and kind assistant, welcomed the anxious trio.

"Welcome to St. Mary's Hospital," Melissa said with a warm smile. "We're here to take care of you. Please follow me."

Melissa guided them to the reception desk and quickly organized the necessary paperwork. Sensing their nervousness, she spoke in a soothing voice, "Don't worry, we have a dedicated team of doctors and nurses who will ensure both mother and baby are well taken care of."

As they waited in the comfortable waiting area, Melissa made sure they had everything they needed. She provided them with water and blankets, and she even went the extra mile to engage the little girl with coloring books and crayons.

Soon enough, a nurse approached them and led the pregnant woman to a private room. Melissa accompanied them, reassuring the couple every step of the way.

"Sir, please stay strong for her," Melissa whispered softly. "You're doing an excellent job supporting her."

Marvis nodded, his eyes filled with love and concern for his wife. "Thank you, Melissa. Your words mean a lot to both of us."

...

"Hurry, hurry up!" a man shouted as a pregnant woman was brought and placed in a car. The car zoomed off afterward.

"To the hospital," the elderly man inside instructed the driver.

"Momma!" a little boy cried as the car conveying the pregnant lady zoomed off. A young lady squatted before the little boy.

"Don't worry, your mom will be fine," she assured him.

"Where are they taking her to?" he asked, his voice filled with concern.

"They are taking her to the hospital. She is going to come back with your baby sister," the young lady smiled.

"Is she going to give me a baby sister?" the little boy asked, his eyes wide with anticipation.

"Yeah, she will," the young lady remarked with a nod, her reassurance bringing a smile to his face.

"But will my mom be fine?" the little boy asked further, his worry resurfacing.

"Yeah, sure. Now cheer up," she replied, trying to lift his spirits.

"Yay!" the little boy exclaimed, marveling at the thought and jumping happily.

...

Law's car arrived at the hospital, and his wife was immediately taken into an operating theatre. He waited anxiously outside, hoping for good news.

A few hours later, a doctor emerged from the operating theatre, and Law hurriedly approached him.

"Doctor, how is my wife and the baby?" he asked, his voice filled with fear.

"Please, Mr. Law, meet me in my office," the doctor replied. Law followed him, walking quickly behind.

They reached the doctor's office and sat down.

"Mr. Law, a few months ago, I informed you about the complications of your wife's pregnancy. Unfortunately, I don't believe I will be able to save the baby. Saving the baby would cost your wife her life," the doctor explained.

"What?" Law gasped, disbelief filling his voice.

"What are you trying to say?" he asked, his heart pounding in his chest.

"I'm saying that you have to choose between your baby and your wife," the doctor stated.

"So you're telling me you can't do anything to save both of them? Are you implying that you're incompetent?" Mr. Law thundered angrily.

"Mr. Law, I already informed you about the complications months ago and recommended terminating the pregnancy before it was too late. You won't find a better doctor than me. However, if you feel I'm not capable, you are free to seek another opinion," the doctor chimed in calmly.

"But can't you find a way to save both of them? I can't choose between them. I want both my child and my wife to survive," Law pleaded.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Law, but I don't believe that is possible. I advise you to make a decision now before it's too late. Here is the consent form," the doctor said, placing a form in front of Law.

"Fill it out if you're ready," he added gently, observing Law's blank stare at him and then at the form.

With a heavy heart, Law took the consent form in his trembling hands. His mind raced, torn between the love he had for his wife and the anticipation of becoming a father. The weight of the decision was crushing.

As Law glanced at the form, lines blurred with his teary eyes. Emotions overwhelmed him, making it difficult to focus on the words written before him. He took a deep breath, trying to gather his thoughts and find the strength to make the impossible choice.

...

Marvis and his sister, Cheryl, were still waiting anxiously in the waiting room for the operation to be over.

"Brother, do you think she will deliver twins?" Cheryl asked, her voice filled with anticipation.

"I think so, Cheryl. I just hope the operation is successful," Marvis replied, trying to hide his own worries.

"I hope so too. I can't wait to be an aunt," Cheryl said with a smile, her eyes shining with excitement.

"I too can't wait to be a father," Marvis smiled, imagining the joy that awaited him.

...

Law watched as the doctor emerged from the operating room.

"Mr. Law, the operation was successful. Your wife is safe, but currently unconscious. I am deeply sorry for the loss of your baby. Please take heart; I am certain another baby will come," the doctor sympathized, while Law nodded in response.
