Chapter 1: Paths Crossed

Michael Sterling existed in a universe of suits and skyscrapers, where the vast urban landscape shared stories of aspiration and authority. He was a billionaire with a self-made drift and he was always the center of attention — he had the charisma of both a hero and a villain. Jessica’s life was a balancing act of caring for others, while finding her own place in the world. She reveled in simple pleasures — a steaming cup of coffee, the laughter of her friends, the few quiet moments between checks on patients.

Their worlds collided unexpectedly one rainy afternoon when Michael was brought to the hospital where she worked for an emergency case. He walked in like he owned the place, dressed in a tailored suit that clashed alarmingly with all the hospital white. The staff propelled him through the busy reception, but for a brief second, his gaze connected with Jessica’s, and the stirring of something — curiosity, maybe — shared between them.
