Chapter 1 Death

RAVEN

Tore apart right from the very day that I was born, I was never met to be loved for I was cursed and I had always kept this at the back of my mind, I could never be like any normal kids out there, because I was cursed.

I stayed at the window silently as I always did and I watched the Rendals closely as they played outside and I drew a deep breath. Deeper than I had ever drawn all my life and I could feel my heart pounding hard against my chest.

I was grateful to them for adopting me but we could never be one just like they were related by blood.. I wished I could stay with my parents and also play with them just the same way that the Rendals were doing right now but I didn't even know my parents were talkless about playing with them.

They had thrown me into a waste bin the day I was born and I was picked up by the Rendals out of Love and compassion.

I could feel my heart beating hard against my chest as though it was going to burst through and fresh tears formed at the Corner of my eyes.

They had rejected me because of the curse. "I wished I was never born." I let out a really deep sigh, deeper than I had ever drawn all my life.

I looked into my chest as the signal of the curse was still there, a long strand of hair. I was afraid of showing it to the Rendal because I was afraid that they were going to chase me away as my parents did to me, and that was the reason I always stayed indoors separated from people so that they will not discover that I wasn't normal but Mrs. Rendal would say that I was only introverted and I wished she actually knew what exactly that I was hiding.

I heard a cracking sound from the door and I pulled away from the window swiftly. It was Esther, the first daughter of the Rendals, just my age.

"Hi, Esther!" I greeted her quickly, staring right into her eyes.

"Aren't you joining us outside?" She inquired with an inquisitive look on her face but there was nothing that she was going to do to make me go outside.

"What if they see the hair or your chest? And discover that you are cursed? Like some wild beast, you will certainly be executed." My subconsciousness yelled out inside of me and I shivered hard with fear and Cold Shivers ran swiftly down my spine.

"Why do you enjoy staying indoors? Why don't you come with us? We are family, remember?" She said to me but I shot a deadly glare at her already getting irritated at her disturbance.

"I said I don't want to go out and do anything," I growled at her and I ran to my head and covered my head firmly. I allowed the tears that had formed in my eyes to pour out as she walked away slowly.

"I am sorry but we can never be family," I said to myself while I continued to sob there. I wished that one day I was going to meet with my parents but I knew for sure that this was just a dream that was never going to come through no matter how hard I prayed.

I slept on the bed but even in my sleep, I had no rest because I had a terrible dream.

In my dream, I turned into a beast and I was devouring people. Including the Rendals, tearing them apart with my claws and my fangs, and my mouth was all stained with blood.

Only one for them was left but I could not see the face of the person because the light in the room was deemed. Then, the place was flooded with light and I saw Esther standing right before me with a pleading look hanging on her face. She was shivering hard with fear and I could smell her fear, coming up right to my nostrils.

I wanted her life because it was the only thing that was going to make me Satisfied.

"Please don't kill me, please." She kept pleading but I was not going to listen to a single Word that she had to say.

"Meat! I want meat!" I kept ranting as I howled advancing slwo. I heard was beating hard against her chest so rapidly that I could hear it right from the point where I stood.

I advanced towards her, tearing her apart to her bones and at this point, I woke up.

I stood up slowly from the bed, sweating profusely and I felt my heart beating hard against my chest as though it was going to burst through and cold shivers ran swiftly down my spine.

My hands were Shivering and my lips trembled. I didn't want to harm them, they were my family and they had already done enough for me.

Then, the door made a cracking sound from the door and I raised my head and immediately I saw Esther, my heart almost lipped out from my chest.

"Happy birthday," Esther said to me with a smile hanging on her face but I still stood there shivering, completely traumatised by what I had the previous night.

Esther noticed the fear that was written all over my face and she walked over to me with a worried look on her face.

"Is anything wrong?" She inquired quickly with so much love and affection in her eyes but the only thing I could feel was her pleading eyes and the blood running down swiftly from the side of her eyes.

"Get your hands off me, Esther, go away from me." I shot at her but she looked somehow confused. "But.." she tried to say but I was not going to give her breathing space to spit out a single word out of her mouth.

"Get away from me Esther, I don't want to hurt you." I returned to her but she didn't seem to get what I was saying. "We are family." She said to me but I shot a deadly glare at her.

"That's what you don't get, we are not." I returned to her swiftly. She tried to say something else but I would not allow her to spit out a single word from her mouth.

"No Esther, please go." She said to me and she began to walk out of the place.

"Okay." She returned to me and she began to walk slowly out of the place.

I felt really bad about what I just did but I had to do it because I was afraid that I was going to be hurt them.

And to crown it, today was my sixteenth year birthday, the day that always made cold Shivers run down my spine and my heart pound hard against my chest.

Right from the point that I was young, I always had this odd feeling that Something terrible was going to happen on this day, something that was going to confirm to everyone that I was the Beast that they confirmed me to be.

Then, I felt a slight Pain in my head and I shifted my fingers to see what had hurt me. Then, I saw blood flowing from my hands and a dreadful sight that made cold shivers run swiftly down my spine.

"No! No!" I cried out aloud.

"Ethan, this is unethical. It's criminal. She hasn't consented." Those chilling words, whispered in the sterile hum of an operating room, were the first thing I heard as consciousness flickered back. My heart pounded, cold dread snaking through my veins. Dr. Ben Carter, Ethan's old friend, was arguing with him. "She's my girlfriend, Ben. Practically my wife," Ethan scoffed, his voice laced with a terrifying casualness. "Chloe needs this kidney. Ava is a perfect match." Kidney. Chloe. My blood ran cold. The beautiful, fragile Chloe Vahn, who had always haunted our relationship, was now taking a piece of me, quite literally. I tried to scream, to move, but my body felt like lead, my throat raw. I felt a sharp tug, a searing line of fire on my side-the scalpel. Ten years of love, of sacrifice, building Ethan Reed and his company back from nothing, all for this. To be carved up like an animal for the woman he truly loved. When I finally regained full awareness, Ethan was by my bedside, a practiced look of concern on his face, spinning a lie about a ruptured ovarian cyst. But then, the overheard nurse's whispered conversation confirmed my nightmare: "Chloe's kidney transplant... he barely left her side." The pieces slammed into place. My despair solidified into a cold, hard resolve. No more. I grabbed my phone, scrolling to one contact I hadn't dared to call. Noah Hayes, Ethan's rival, a man of integrity. My finger trembled as I typed. "Noah," I managed, my voice raspy. "Are you still looking for a COO who knows Reed Innovate's strategies... and perhaps, a wife?" The silence stretched, then his voice, calm and serious, cut through the noise of my crumbling world. "My jet, seven days. LaGuardia."
