Chapter 8 What Could Be The Problem With My Luna

Chapter 1 Agony

As I walked back home from a visit to one of the pack members who had given birth, I thought of Xander and I smiled. We had been together for two years now but it felt like yesterday since I met him. Things have been going perfectly fine for me and Xander after we mated and I became his luna. He is caring, loving, protective, and respects me. I love him so much.

He is what I call a perfect gentleman. He listened to me, he made my family his family. He had become friends with the people of Sapele village. Six months ago when my parents' cabin burnt down with Emily who was sleeping inside, she usually was a deep sleeper but she had managed to escape with some bruises which healed fast.

When I told Xander that I wanted Emily to come to stay with us in the pack house since she had nowhere else to go, he agreed. While we had not been able to find the people who had set the house on fire, Xander had started its reconstruction.

I got inside the house, it was a mansion mostly covered by trees but had a clear path. All the other pack members lived in cabins, not because they couldn't afford a house as big as this but because they felt there had to be a distinguishable difference between the Alpha's house and theirs. Xander wouldn't mind if anyone built a house bigger than this but they wouldn't hear of it. I opened the door to our bedroom and froze.

My eyes couldn't believe what they were seeing. On the bed lay a sleeping Xander and Emily, they were both naked. I felt a sharp piercing pain as I continued to look at them, I moved slowly toward the bed but stopped. What would I do if I got there? I slowly backed away. Once I was outside the door, I turned and started walking slowly towards the stairs. This had to be a dream, what I saw couldn't be real but the pain in my chest couldn't be imagined. I heard Emily call out my name then I stopped walking.

"Chloe!"

I stopped but I did not turn around. I vaguely heard footsteps approach me and then suddenly, she was standing in front of me wearing Xander's shirt and nothing under it. The pain I felt seemed to multiply at that sight.

"Why?" That was all I could think to ask.

"Why?" Emily repeated as she laughed." Because I want you to feel pain, the same pain I felt every time you steal my shine.

"What?" I wasn't following.

"Oh please cut the crap. You're always the goody two shoes, perfectly nice. I saw Xander first, I wanted him first and yet you found a way to bewitch him as you do to everyone else. Well, he has finally realized his mistake in choosing you instead of me. Do you know what he said while we were having mind-blowing sex? That it was the best sex he has ever had. You're slow at everything. I've always had a deep resentment for you Chloe and I'm glad he now sees you for what you are, nothing." Emily said with a sneer.

I had been friends with this lady for ten years. I took her to my house when he parents died. I clothed and fed her for ten years. I thought the beaming smile on her face was real but I must realize that they were all fake. Always did my best to see her happy and comfortable and it was all a lie on her path. How didn't I realize this earlier?

"For old time's sake, I will give you a warning and a spoiler. When Xander wakes up, he's going to gather the pack, he plans to tell everyone that he no longer wants you as his mate. So save yourself a little integrity from the disgrace to come and make sure you have your things packed before then." With that, Emily walked back into the bedroom slamming the door behind her leaving me more heartbroken than I was before.

I don't know how long I stood in the hallway feeling bereft until I heard someone call me.

"Luna?"

I looked up to see Brianna, a fourteen years old Omega looking at me with a worried expression.

"Are you okay, Luna?"

I nodded, swallowing the lump in my throat. I kept on walking. I passed Smith on my way down the stairs and he said something to me but I didn't quite catch what he said. I just kept on walking. I felt like I was floating, totally lost.

The events of the past few minutes kept flashing in my head as I walked to the lake, where I loved to stay and think. Not only had Xander betrayed and broken my heart, but he also planned to dish out the ultimate disgrace, rejection. I thought about the scorn I had seen in Emily's eyes, the smirks, laughter, snickers, and pity I would get from the pack and I knew I couldn't take it.

It was one blow too many. So Xander was cheating on me. And of all people, he chose Emily, my friend. How was I so dumb not to know? I was so lost in my thoughts as the excruciating pain kept piercing my heart like a two-edged sword that I didn't stop walking when I got to the edge of the lake, I continued.

I walked into the lake with tears and agony, I kept walking until I could walk no more. Then I let myself sink. I did not fight the water as it began to go into my lungs in place of air. I needed to end it here. It is better to die this way than get humiliated by Xander and Emily.

Just as my world was turning dark, I saw a shimmer of light. To my surprise, I was out of the water, a few feet away from the lake, coughing violently. As I coughed, I felt tears running down my cheeks, I tasted salt, whether, from the water or my tears, I couldn't tell. Strangely enough, my body was dry, devoid of water droplets.
