Chapter 1 ONE

"Have you yet seen Max? I've heard that yesterday evening at the practice field, he got into a fight with his father." My best friend told me.

I whirled to face her and arched my brows. "Really? Max acted?" She responded by nodding her head when I asked.

Max didn't like to argue with his father.

"Do you recall what transpired? What triggered his rage?" I inquired. Lean leaned against the locker with her face turned toward me.

Lean sighed quietly and said, "His father cheated on his mother again." I would be furious too because I feel terrible for him and his mother.

I made a fist out of my hand and slammed it down on the table. Everyone turned their backs on me, some continued to watch, while others swiftly turned to face the board. In our pack, it was against the law for Mates to commit infidelity, yet for some reason, my father kept pardoning him.

The father of Max frequently cheated. Because of his rebellious life, his mother kept getting sick and had to suffer. She might pass away one day.

I wish I could help him so badly, but I can't. I'm not very powerful.

As soon as he walked in, our English teacher remarked, "Open your fundamental English textbook to page 101." I pulled out my textbook and gave Lean a quick look.

"We'll discuss this at a later time."

I muttered.

My father was the Alpha of the Nighthunt pack, one of the strongest packs around, and I was the next Alpha.

Since I turned 14, Max and I have been dating. At the time, everyone thought we were soul mates, and I hoped we were. He treated me like a queen because I adored him. He respected me and helped me. In five months, I would turn 18, and I was worried about what might happen.

"We'll discuss prefixes today." Our English teacher, Mr. Hillary addressed us.

I was so eager for class to be over.

I strolled back to the counter after grabbing a porcelain bowl and a box of cornflakes from the cabinet.

"We should go to a new club starting up in town tonight," Lean said as she continued to scan through her phone.

Nearly every week, Lean and I leave the Pack to visit our town.

My dad was very much an Alpha. Because he was concerned for our safety, he never allowed us to leave the pack, but I wasn't the sort to do that.

"I should be worried about Max, I don't know if it is a good idea to go clubbing when he might be going through some family issues right now." I retorted and she rolled her eyes.

"Oh, please. You're not the one that told his father to cheat on his Mom, this has nothing to do with you and you don't have to stop yourself from having fun just because of him you can always call him to check on him, after all, you have a phone, utilize it."

Typically Lean, she has a very bad mouth and most of the time I don't tell her anything about my relationship with Max because I just don't trust the advice she was going to give me.

"I beg to differ, Lean. Max is my boyfriend. I care for him, I'm sure that when you find a guy that loves you with everything then you will understand why I hold Max to such a standard even when he is below my class."

She fold up her hands under her breasts and rolled her eyes.

"I don't know what to do with you, you are obsessed with this guy."

I shook my head as I drink my cornflakes. "One day, you'll understand." That was my response.

"Come on, Faye, just tonight. I'm dying to see the place and you know I can't go there without you." Lean grumbled.

That bitch.

She knows how to get me to accept her requests. I just can't deny her anything.

"Okay, one hour and we're coming right back," I told her and she nodded her head.

"Baby," Mom called, I looked up and smiled, dropped my bowl of cornflakes on the counter, and walked up to her.

"Mom," I smiled up at her, holding her hand.

After giving birth to my younger brother, my Mom has been fragile, he was born prematurely after unexpected labor started during a battle between us and Howl Moon Pack.

It was something I could never forget.

"Luna, do you need anything?" Lean asked, walking up to Mom and me.

"Nothing at all, my dear. I noticed the two of you here and decided to join you both." She responded. I glanced up at Lean and she gave me a subtle shrug.

I helped her sit down on a couch and sat beside her.

"I'm always here for you, Mom. Whenever you need me." I whispered to her.

"I know, my Baby. But one day you will have your own home, it might be far away from us, I can feel it." She murmured.

Oh, goddess.

Here we are, again.

*****

I parked my car in front of the club and got down, and so did Lean.

We walked towards the front door, towards Lean's fuck buddy who always let us in with our fake ID, he winked at us and I smiled.

Lean has that guy wrapped around her tiny fingers.

The moment we entered the club, we walked to the bar and got ourselves a drink. As usual, Lean already found a guy that interested her and she left to dance with him.

I shook my head as I drink the night away.

After a while I felt heat on my back, the tiny dress that I was wearing couldn't contain me anymore.

I glanced back, searching everywhere with my eyes until they collide with his.

Oh, moon goddess.

My face heated up and I blinked rapidly.

Those eyes.

I felt chill all over me. I felt the power emanating from his body.

He must be a high-rank wolf.

What the fuck am I doing, drinking up another man when I have Max.

I must be crazy.

But on that pivotal day in a Lower East Side bar, clutching my gift, my dream exploded. I overheard Jax' s cold voice: "Can't believe Savvy's showing up. She' s still hung up on that stupid thing I said." Then the crushing plot: "We' re gonna tell Savvy I' m engaged to Chloe, maybe even hint she' s pregnant. That should scare her off."
