"Abandoned by her mother the night she was born, Layla was taken in and raised by her grandmother in the countryside. Her life was peaceful and uneventful until one day, right before she turned twenty, a group of men came to her home and told her about her true identity. It turned out that she was the daughter of the wealthy Reed family, and her parents suddenly wanted to take her back. She thought that they were going to make up for lost time, but to her horror, they only wanted her back for one reason: for her to marry a disabled man instead of Sandra, their other daughter. They even went so far as to use her vulnerable grandmother as a bargaining chip to force her. Clark was the heir of the powerful Smith family, but his family was on the brink of bankruptcy. As if that wasn't enough, thanks to a car accident, the grumpy man was now also wheelchair-bound. Desperate to get out of this plight, he married Layla. However, on their wedding night, Clack and Layla signed an agreement, agreeing to get divorced after two years. Would this marriage really last two years? Would Clark find out that his wife was not a rich pampered princess but a simple country girl? Between her persistent pursuer and her cold husband, who would Layla choose?"

Fall For My Mysterious Lame Husband Chapter 1 Remember Who You Are

Layla Reed pushed the door to the doctor's office and walked in. Then she immediately asked, "Doctor, how is my Grandma? Was the operation successful?"

As soon as the doctor saw her, he frowned and pulled a long face. Then he said sharply, "Are you referring to the patient in Ward Eight? What operation are you talking about? Your grandmother owes the hospital tens of thousands of dollars already. If you don't pay her hospital bills today, take her out of here immediately."

"What? How can that be? Alina told me that she had settled the hospital bills." Layla was shocked and angry at the same time.

Alina promised that she would pay Layla's grandmother's hospital bills. That was why Layla agreed to marry a stranger on behalf of Alina's beloved daughter. But before Layla got married, she wanted to see her grandmother first, so she snuck out and went to the hospital on her wedding day.

Only to find that Alina didn't fulfill her promise at all.

Layla tried hard to suppress the anger in her heart. She grabbed the doctor's arm and said, "Doctor, my grandmother is very ill, and the operation can't be delayed. She doesn't have too much time to wait. Please perform the operation first. I'll raise money right... Ouch!"

Before she could finish her words, she heard a loud bang behind her.

Then her hair was forcibly pulled back, and a familiar sharp voice sounded in her ears. "You bitch! How dare you run away on your wedding day!"

Layla's scalp was so painful that she was forced to raise her head. Then she saw the well-dressed Alina staring down at her.

She pushed Alina away with all her strength, and her eyes turned red with anger. "You lied to me! You didn't pay my grandmother's hospital bills. I won't marry that terrible man for Sandra!"

But Alina was not threatened at all. Instead, she sneered, "If you marry him obediently, I'll pay the hospital bills now and let your grandmother undergo an operation. But if you continue being stubborn, I will make sure she doesn't make it through today. Think about it carefully."

"Pay the hospital bills in front of me right now." Layla didn't believe Alina anymore. But her grandmother's life was at stake. The operation couldn't be delayed any longer.

Alina took out her credit card and paid the hospital bills at once.

Then she turned to the two servants behind her and ordered, "Hurry, help Miss Layla change into her wedding dress."

Layla didn't resist anymore. She could only grit her teeth.

The servants rushed over, hastily put on the wedding dress for her, and stuffed her into the bridal car.

Alina bent down outside the car window and warned Layla, "Remember who you are and what you're here for. If you dare to sabotage the relationship between the Smith family and the Reed family, I won't spare that old bat."

Layla clutched the hemline of her wedding dress so tightly that her knuckles turned white. She knew she had no way back.

She had no other choice but to marry Clark Smith, the heir of the Smith family.

Rumor had it that after he was crippled from a car accident, he became temperamental, cruel, and extremely hard to please.

The Reeds had promised to marry their daughter, Sandra Reed, to the son of the Smith family. However, Sandra was a spoiled young woman. She refused to marry Clark because he became a cripple. So Alina came up with the idea of using Layla as the substitute bride.

There was a screeching sound.

The car suddenly braked, interrupting Layla's thoughts.

Before she could react, she saw the driver get out of the driver's seat. Then he opened the back seat door and pulled her out. "Go walk the rest of the road by yourself."

After saying this, the driver threw her small and shabby suitcase on the ground.

Layla looked around and found that they were on a hillside. She said anxiously, "But we haven't gotten there yet. You..."

But the driver didn't wait for her to finish her words. He got in the car, stepped on the accelerator, and sped away.

Layla was an unloved member of the Reed family. Of course, the driver wouldn't feel sorry for her. After all, his master was Sandra. He only took orders from Sandra.

Layla was left on a deserted hillside with no one else around. As the cold and humid wind blew, she couldn't help shivering.

The sky was dark and gloomy.

Then there came a flash of lightning and the roar of thunder.

Layla looked up at the dark sky with a frown. It seemed that a storm was coming.

She couldn't delay any longer. Otherwise, she would be in danger. So she lifted the hemline of her wedding dress with one hand, pulled her suitcase with the other, and plodded in the hilly road.

The high heels she was wearing were a big obstacle. After taking just a few steps, the heel of one shoe was stuck in the crack in the road. She couldn't pull it out no matter how hard she tried.

Worse was, the rain was coming down in buckets.

Layla had no choice. She took off her high heels and walked barefoot on the mountain road strewn with small and sharp gravel.

When she reached the top of the hill, a luxurious manor standing in the rain and mist appeared in her eyes. It covered an area of thousands of acres with independent gardens and mini forests. Villas scattered in different directions, looking magnificent and grand.

"I'm finally here," she murmured.

Layla was totally exhausted, and she was soaking wet. Since she walked barefoot, the sharp stones cut her tender soles. Her feet were bleeding, but she couldn't care less at the moment.

She lifted the hemline of her dress and rang the doorbell.

No one opened the door.

She rang it again.

Still, there was no answer from the inside.

Layla squatted on the front steps, almost freezing to death. When she felt like she was about to collapse, she finally heard some noise coming from inside the house.

Before she could stand up, the luxurious door opened.

And the first thing that caught Layla's eyes was a wheelchair. She looked up and saw a supremely handsome face.

The man had an angular face and a high nose bridge. Although his thin lips were pursed tightly, they still looked sexy and charming.

But unfortunately, his face was expressionless, and his eyes were cold. Even from a distance, Layla could feel the coldness he emanated.

She thought that he must be Clark Smith.

Somehow she was a little nervous. She took a deep breath and said in a low voice, "Hello! My name is Sandra Reed. I'm here to marry you."

Clark looked at her up and down several times. When he saw there was nothing on her neck, his eyes narrowed dangerously. Then he said in a low voice, "You are not Sandra Reed."

I spent four hours preparing a five-course meal for our fifth anniversary. When Jackson finally walked into the penthouse an hour late, he didn't even look at the table. He just dropped a thick Manila envelope in front of me and told me he was done. He said his stepsister, Davida, was getting worse and needed "stability." I wasn't his wife; I was a placeholder, a temporary fix he used until the woman he actually loved was ready to take my place. Jackson didn't just want a divorce; he wanted to erase me. He called me a "proprietary asset," claiming that every design I had created to save his empire belonged to him. He froze my bank accounts, cut off my phone, and told me I’d be nothing without his name. Davida even called me from her hospital bed to flaunt the family heirloom ring Jackson claimed was lost, mocking me for being "baggage" that was finally being cleared out. I stood in our empty home, realizing I had spent five years being a martyr for a man who saw me as a transaction. I couldn't understand how he could be so blind to the monster he was protecting, or how he could discard me so coldly after I had given him everything. I grabbed my hidden sketchbook, shredded our wedding portrait, and walked out into the rain. I dialed a number I hadn't touched in years—a dangerous man known as The Surgeon who dealt in debts and shadows. I told him I was ready to pay his price. Jackson and Davida wanted to steal my identity, but I was about to show the world the literal scars they had left behind.

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch—a titan of industry and my best friend’s father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.
