Chapter 1 How I See

CHAPTER 1: How I see

Have you ever tried seeing dead people's soul?

Take a look behind you, there is a woman crying with black tear and asking for your help, seeking for her death's justice. Look at your side, there is a boy staring at you, wondering why you're terrified of him. His face is as white as a snow and the bottom of his eyes are darkened.

Look down to your feet, you will see a pale skin of a foot. But when you look up, it has no head and is dressed as a nun while holding a rosary. Open your cabinet, you will see the old man with pierced eyes while repeatedly shouting with his terrifying cold voice.

Look outside the window, you can see a young woman standing there with very long hair and wearing a white dress. Try to go to the bathroom, there is a man hanging by his neck on a rope. His eyes are wide open and his skin is pale and rough. A hot stream of blood coming out from his eyes and his entire face was as red as a tomato.

Be careful where you are going through because you might bump into something -- or someone. They don't make so much noise but when they get mad, they look terrifyingly mad. Every night, they'd find their way to a quiet and peaceful home for their place to sleep.

People with third eye have seen all of those. And I'm used to it. And because of this stupid ability, I deal with other people as coldly as the voices of the souls that I meet. But because of what I see that people couldn't see how the Earth is in my eyes, many teases me. They'd call me names like Aidee weirdo, Aidee living in a secluded world, and worse, a monster.

And I couldn't bare to handle them anymore, especially since there are souls following me like my own shadow, seeking for my help. Seeking for validation of their death, and why their soul couldn't go across the light.

"Ai? Aren't you going to sleep yet?"

I let out a deep breath when I opened the door to my room and Mom was there, standing on the edge of my bed and smiling at me. It looks like she's been waiting for me here.

"I'm just going to get dressed, Mom. I just came home from school, you see."

I live with my family in one roof. My dad, my older brother and sister Jefferson and Ivonie. As well as my mother's soul for five years that still hasn't left since the day of her death. She's been with us and I have no idea on how she managed to live with us and not wonder why she still hasn't peacefully rest her soul.

"You know that Mom loves you very much, right Ai? You are Mom's favorite child... If only I hadn't died, there might be so much memories that you could keep with. Memories of me living our life together, not as a dead soul. I'm so sorry, dear."

I ignored her. She's my Mom but she's long dead. Her voice is as cold as an ice that gives me shivers every time she speaks. Her skin is as blurred as a ghost that I've seen since my existence. In sixteen years, everything seems to not change at all. I'm alive yet I couldn't feel the appreciation of being alive. Because all my life, I've seen dead souls roaming around. Confused souls that not only can cross through the light, but also forgot how their life used to be.

Oftentimes the forgotten souls are those who died without the presence of their family. Or they were in the hospital and their monitor went straight line without any family representative. So as a soul, they'd wander around seeking for questions about who they are and what they're doing. Until they notice that they are no longer human but a dead soul.

"Mom, haven't you seen the white light yet? It's been five years."

I've been asking her that for five years. Everyday. And I'm sick of saying it again and again. The other souls I see in the hospital immediately saw the white light. It's either they are going to heaven or to hell, or if these places really do exist. It's either their souls can be at peace or they will suffer more.

Well, that's what I thought about the lands of living and dead.

I sat down on my bed after Mom left without even answering my question.

She hasn't seen the light yet. That's why she wasn't able to answer my question... again.

I sighed and removed my glasses. Its lenses is as thick as my cellphone. I placed it inside its case and lay down.

Yes, I'm that weird-looking-nerd talking with ghosts.
