Chapter 1 The Beginning

Maddie brushed her hair back and she began to kneed the dough harder. Flour coating her broken nails. She took a chance to sit down, happy at her accomplishment of successfully rolling out the dough to create bread.

Maddie was a baker for a sweet older woman named Matilda. Matilda took Maddie in when she was found on the ground bleeding from the abuse of her ex husband. The truth is Matilda was more of a mother than her own had been. Maddie's mother was a drug seeking addict who basically sold Maddie for her next fix to her ex husband Rich. Rich was ruthless and because her mother sold her, he considered Maddie as his property to do with as he pleased. He would beat her, burn his old cigarettes in her pale flesh and not allow her outside. Sometimes he would refuse her food until she obeyed his requests.

Maddie chooses not to allow her mind to wonder to that horrible time in her life. She was better now. She had a job, a small apartment that she shared with her "mother", and a new outlook on life. She would never let another man control her ever again. Maddie smiled to herself and submerged back into her work. Unknowing of the world she was about to be forced into.
